Chapter 908: Not in this lifetime, not in the next.
“Miss Miller, you’ve already been a part of the scheme to deceive Zoren Pierson because someone saw you as the perfect scapegoat. Don’t fall for the same trick again.”
Patricia’s shoulder shook, her reaction telling Angel that he had guessed correctly. As soon as Patricia’s eyes met Angel’s, her lips quivered.
“How did you know…?” she blurted out under her breath, thinking that Zoren had become obsessed with her and was stalking her. “Have you guys been watching me? Or don’t tell me you were the ones who sent that invitation?”
“What invitation?”
“The one you sent me the other day!” she exclaimed, snatching her bag and then grabbing her phone. She didn’t carry the card, but she had taken a photo of it just in case she would need it. “This one!”
As soon as Patricia lifted her phone, Angel narrowed his eyes and read the card aloud so Penny could hear it.
“I didn’t do anything to Mr. Pierson this time!” Patricia exclaimed, retracting her phone. “I swear! This is the only task I was given! I just had to stir trouble for Nina and that’s it!”
Angel drew a deep breath, placing his hand over Patricia’s to mildly push it down. Without a word, he fished his phone out again and put it to his ear.
“You heard what she just said?” he asked, making Patricia’s breath hitch as she realized his call was still connected, and someone else was listening. Angel slid his eyes back to her and asked, “What do you want me to do with her?”

“What do you want me to do with her?”
Penny chuckled, her voice low, laced with amusement and intrigue. “Why do you make it sound like I want her dead?”
“Just keep an eye on her for now and ask more about this strange task given to her,” she ordered calmly, checking her left and right to make sure no one else was listening. Penny leaned on the open window in the hallway to reduce the echo of her voice.
“Find out what else she knows. It might come in handy.”
With that, Penny ended the call and rested her hand on the windowsill. She had said all of that to Angel, but she was already aware that Patricia knew nothing else. That woman was just too naive, falling for the same trick.
Patricia was the only one who would fall for such a trick, but not Penny.
‘When I heard her call with Nathaniel back then, I promised myself that I would never let that happen,’ she told herself. ‘And I also told myself that if I just let her be, they’d surely approach her again after lying low.’
At the end of the day, just like what Penny thought earlier today, Patricia was like a side character in everyone’s lives. She was there, but at the same time, she hadn’t contributed to anything. Still, she existed in everyone’s lives, making her the easiest target and the perfect scapegoat.
Suddenly, Penny’s phone vibrated. Checking who it was, her brows rose when she saw it was Nathaniel’s number.
“Hah…” she breathed out, answering the call. “Yes?”
“Uh… Miss Penelope? I mean, Young Madam?” Nathaniel cleared his throat. “You told me last time that I should check Patricia Miller’s phone from time to time and see if someone would contact her?”
“And?”
“I just retrieved her message logs because I noticed her phone was pinging nonstop some time ago, and she’s been receiving international messages.” Nathaniel’s brows rose, holding his breath, waiting for Penny to tell him what to do. “I found some interesting things in the log and some footprints from the other person. Should I send them to you?”
“Go ahead. Send them to the email I told you about.”
“Yes, yes! Of course! I’m doing it now!”
“Also,” Penny called, halting his actions.
“Yes, Miss Penny?”
Penny didn’t answer immediately, staring out the window where she could see the empty track. “Recently, my husband bought me a bag.”
“The… white one?”

“Yes, that one.”
“What about it, Young Madam?” he asked, wondering what this bag had to do with everything. Nathaniel thought Penny would finally recognize his skill and use him somewhere more productive than gardening. However, all she was saying was about this bag her husband had bought her, which Benjamin kept bragging about to anyone who had seen it.
“I want you to do something for me,” Penny said calmly, but solemnly. “And you’re the only person I’d entrust with this task.” — That was because it was more convenient, and she didn’t want to add more workload for everyone else. Might as well put this guy to work to see if he was useful or useless.
Nathaniel’s ears perked up, assuming he was about to receive his first mission from the queen. “Whatever it is, Miss Penelope, I’ll do it! I’ve done my best and even mastered gardening at this point, so rest assured you won’t regret this.”
“The bag my husband gifted me not long ago only has ten in the world,” she continued, ignoring Nathaniel’s enthusiasm. “Track all the people who have it.”
“Oh! Sure! No problem!” Nathaniel giggled, thinking this would be an interesting first task. “Don’t worry, Miss Penny! I’ll give you an update at the end of the day!”
Penny nodded. “Take your time and… enjoy the hunt.”
“Hehehehe.” The corner of Nathaniel’s mouth stretched from ear to ear, his eyes lighting up like a devil. “It’s been a while, so I will.”
Having said that, Penny dropped the call and crossed her arms under her chest. She kept her gaze out the window, letting the wind kiss her cheeks. She narrowed her eyes, making them appear sharper and deadlier.
‘I made a promise the moment I realized I was back in time,’ she told herself, a repeat she had kept telling herself over the years. ‘Back then, my miserable life ended without me knowing the reason. Now, I might know—or might not know—the reason I deserve to die.’
“… however, I will make sure it’s not going to happen. Not in this lifetime, not in the next.”
