Chapter 930: It’s a promise
Today was meant to be a time to reminisce about the good old days—a day to go back in time and relive how easy life once was. Some used this day to make amends for their past, asking for forgiveness from those they had wronged, reconciling broken friendships, reconnecting, and simply trying to correct things—a chance to do better.
It wasn’t all about Penny, despite her face being on every corner of the venue. Penny was just a small part of all of this.
But for Penny and Zoren, today had become a day to roleplay. A day to experience something they both hadn’t—specifically, not the sober Penny, but rather, the drunk Penny.
In her previous life, school was hell. It wasn’t a second home she could consider, nor was there any good memory she could recall. This life might be different for her, but at this moment, it wasn’t.
“You and I…” Penny gasped, catching her breath, staring at the ceiling while lying flat on the floor. “…We’d be young parents.”
Zoren laughed, turning his head to the side. “Our quadruplets would’ve been pre-teens by now.”
“Quadruplets…?” Penny looked back at him, her face twitching. “Do you think I’m an animal?”
“No, but we’d have a lot of children.”
“Uh-huh… and we would have them one after another.”
“They wouldn’t be quadruplets, then.”
“If the heavens give me another chance, I’d ask that instead of taking my life and throwing me back in time, I’d ask that men give birth instead.”
“I would also ask for that.”
“Huh?”
“So, I won’t have to mentally prepare you for our quadruplets.”
“…” Penny was silent for a while. It was a good thing that her heart had stabilized and her body had recovered from all the pounding he had done. She slowly rolled onto her side, snug under the bodysuit she had put on because she thought it would be better than directly lying on the floor.
Propping her knuckles under her jaw, she spoke. “Good thing you’re handsome.”
“Hmm?”
“Otherwise, what you’re saying now is… a turn-off,” she explained matter-of-factly. “This world is never fair, you know? Pretty people get special treatment. Like right now, I find you cute. But if it weren’t for that face, I’d think you were mad.”
“I am mad,” Zoren said, moving his head closer to her, finding the floor quite comfortable to lie on. “I realized that months ago.”
Penny pressed her lips into a thin line, staring at his beautiful face. “What a handsome man you are.”
“You too.” Slowly, he poked the tip of her nose. “You are beautiful.”
“Goodness. You look at me as if you can see me so clearly.” Penny clicked her tongue. “When are you going to get better?”
“Soon, I think?”
“What the hell am I doing? You should’ve recovered by now.” She smacked her lips, blurting that out even though she understood the reasoning behind the medical approach she was taking.
Zoren’s problem was psychological. His mind—and how it controlled both his body and the outside world—was surprisingly stronger than average. There was nothing wrong with his eyes, in fact. Replacing them wouldn’t work.
“Geez…” she whispered. “Even if I do the operation myself, it’s not going to work. Though, it would be good if I could electrocute your brain—not the one I had, but just enough to spark some inspiration in your head.”
Zoren blinked slowly, listening to her casual muttering. “I didn’t know you could operate on someone.”
“I am a licensed doctor, duh.”
“But weren’t you a scientist… or something like that?” he asked, his curiosity piqued. “We talked about this before, but you barely told me about it. Dean had his practice and degree in medicine before his business management diploma.”
Although Penny and Dean had a four-year age gap, they were both considered advanced learners and skipped a few grades. Just like Penny, Dean had two degrees. He still had his license. That’s why it wouldn’t be surprising if Dean sometimes appeared at medical conferences and had side hustles.

Penny blinked and stared at Zoren. “I didn’t tell you a lot of things, huh?”
“You said they weren’t that important and that you simply did it just because.”
“Well, compared to my medical achievements in my past life, my medical achievements in this lifetime were… nothing,” Penny flashed him a sweet smile. “I spent my life dating the lab and writing articles. At one point, someone even stole my article and took all the credit.”
“What I’m saying is, I’m the best doctor you could ever ask for,” she winked at him. “Even if I don’t practice anymore, I spent an entire lifetime doing the same thing over and over. No matter how much I try to forget, I can still do it.”
“How confident,” Zoren chuckled, propping his elbow on the floor to face her. “Then, I guess I’ll get better soon.”
“You will be.” Penny smiled reassuringly. “And once you get better, everything—your body, your mind, and even your heart and soul—will be healed.”
Slowly, she moved forward, planting a soft kiss on his cheek. When she drew back, her eyes sparkled.
“It’s taking some time, but I’m patient because I know once it’s all in full bloom, it will be worth it.” Her voice was filled with certainty as she nodded reassuringly at him.
In medicine, some things can be cured or relieved with simple medications, others with surgery. As for Zoren, all she needed was patience. After all, that steamy session with him told her he was a hundred times better and stronger—not in a sensual sense, though that too might apply—but in terms of stamina, endurance, and strength. Those were now well-established.
It was just a matter of time.
“I’m excited,” she whispered, reaching out to cup his cheek. Her eyes softened as he clasped her hand and pressed his cheek to her palm. “When you’re all better, Zoren Pierson, promise me one thing.”
“Anything.”
Her smile stretched as she chuckled. “Then, promise me that… no matter what, you will never die. If someone’s got to die first, it’ll be me. Because if it’s you, I don’t think I can… be me.”
“I will not die,” Zoren planted a kiss on her hand, eyes fixed on hers. “It’s a promise.”
The two of them smiled at each other lovingly, nodding in mutual understanding. After a moment, they leaned closer for another kiss to express their hearts. However, just before their lips touched, the door suddenly slid open.
Both frowned in displeasure. Penny lifted her eyes while Zoren looked back. Their irritation over the interruption didn’t last long, though. The moment their eyes landed on Benjamin standing in the doorway, his face horrified, they knew something was wrong.
“Miss Penny…” Benjamin breathed out, wide-eyed. “Something happened to your grandfather.”
