Chapter 943: High class broke
The family left the hospital in silence, weighed down by disbelief. Riding in one big van, no one spoke a word, creating a heavier atmosphere for everyone.
“How…” Allison trailed off with a scoff, looking at everyone in the van. When her eyes landed on her husband, she shook her head slightly. “Charles, how could this… Atlas, what is going on?”
Allison couldn’t absorb this information despite the smug look Stephen had given while announcing the sudden change of power in the family. All this time, she had believed the Bennet family was in its most stable state with Atlas at the helm. But what was this? No one had told her anything!
“Allison, it’s alright,” Charles sighed in defeat. “Everything’s going to be alright.”
“Alright?” Allison’s face soured. “Charles, how can it be alright that your father would turn his back on our family like this?”
“Ali—”
“Charles, I didn’t say anything when your family wouldn’t even bat an eye at our children. You are your father’s only son but treated you like how he treated you, and even if it upset me, I didn’t say anything. But this? Charles Bennet, you are not young anymore.”
“Allison, it’s not like that,” Haines chimed in, trying to calm the situation. “Your children are here. Please, let’s all discuss this once we reach home.”
Allison opened her mouth, only to shut it as she realized her emotions were getting the better of her. Bitter and frustrated, she swallowed her words, her gaze shifting to her children with quiet anguish.
As a mother, she felt ten times more hurt by this. It wasn’t about the control of the family or the money. It wasn’t even the inheritance, since the chairman wasn’t dead yet. Even if he were, she wouldn’t care about any of it.
The only thing that upset her was how could her husband’s father—their children’s own grandfather—treat their family as outsiders?
‘I should’ve known,’ she told herself bitterly. ‘Why did I even think my eldest was protected by the elders of the Bennet family?’
Charles sighed for the umpteenth time as he observed his wife suppressing her frustration. He glanced at Haines and then at his children. None of his children spoke a word, but this silence was enough for all of them.

Moments later, the van pulled up to the Bennet Family home, its stately facade dim under the evening sky. As usual, Butler Jen was right outside the front door to welcome the family with a warm smile.
“Welcome—” Butler Jen stopped in surprise as he watched Allison storm inside the house. A short gust of wind blew past him as she did, making him blink innocently. When he turned and saw Charles near him, he couldn’t help but ask,
“Sir, is everything alright?”
Charles stopped in front of him and nodded wearily. “She’ll be.”
“…”
“Anyway, don’t mind us. Please prepare the kids some warm soup.”
“Yes, sir.”
With that, Charles dragged his feet inside. Following behind him was Haines, giving Butler Jen a quick nod without saying anything. Behind Haines were the Bennet children.
“Sir Atlas,” called Butler Jen, only for Atlas to nod at him without stopping in his tracks. Butler Jen watched Hugo follow Atlas inside, then Penny with Zoren and Slater with her.
“Good evening, Butler Jen,” Penny greeted, while Zoren flashed him a short smile.
“Hello, Butler Jen. Please prepare my chocolate,” was all Slater said before sighing heavily.
Butler Jen furrowed his brows deeply, watching the whole family go inside in the same mood. As the head butler of this family for years, he knew something was wrong. This had never happened before. The last time he saw Allison this upset was when she found out about Penny’s marriage and the fact that she was the last to know about it.
“I wonder who got married now?”

Allison and Charles didn’t join their children in the dining room for dinner. However, no one bothered to ask them to join, as they knew the couple were obviously arguing. Hence, the people who had gathered in the dining room for some warm soup were the Bennet children, Haines, and Zoren.
“First Brother,” Slater called after a prolonged silence in the dining room. “Does this mean you and Dad will be broke?”

Everyone slowly lifted their eyes toward Slater, making the latter shrug.
“Err… well, Dad and First Brother rely on the family business?” Slater explained how he came up with the question. “I’ve never involved myself in the family business, so how would I know?”
“Now that you mention it…” Hugo trailed off as he casually rested his arms on the edge of the table. A smile slowly broke on his face while staring at Atlas. “…I guess I’m not the only broke kid Charles Bennet has.”
“Even if I end up broke, I’ll be a high-class broke,” Atlas replied nonchalantly, seemingly enjoying his soup. “Besides, I barely had any breaks since working in the office. I’ll be fine without it.”
“Hehe. Of course, First Brother. I still have two weeks left.” Slater giggled. “I’ll keep you entertained.”
Upon hearing Slater’s remarks, Atlas froze. He slowly lifted his eyes to his third brother, and regret and reluctance immediately swirled in his eyes.
“Penny, are you hiring?” he asked sincerely. “I don’t mind even if I have to work as a regular salaryman.”
Slater immediately frowned, but Penny spoke up before he could argue with Atlas. He ended up stuffing himself with chocolates to make himself feel better.
“This is nonsense.” Penny exhaled, shaking her head. She glanced at everyone and smacked her lips. “Let’s not think about this for now. A lot happened today — it’s been a rollercoaster.”
“I agree. Today’s been a rollercoaster for all of us.” Zoren nodded, considering the reunion, the classroom sex, and then this family drama. It all happened on the same day. Not to mention, they had a couple of drinks earlier today as well.
“I’m just worried about Dad. That’s all.” Penny looked back at the entrance, sighing for the second time. “This is the first time I’ve seen Mom this disappointed in him.”
All of them also looked toward the entrance, worry evident in their eyes. Even the quiet Haines couldn’t help but frown.
“They’ll be fine,” he reassured the children, watching them look in his direction. “You children should rest for now. Your mother will be fine.”
