Chapter 954: Executive
Meanwhile…
“What is the meaning of this? What in the world?” Theo blurted out quietly, earning a look from his father. He turned to his side where his father was seated in the car. “Dad, I think I just found out the reason Penny is buying our company.”
“What is it, Theo?”
“Someone from the association I was a part of was talking about the shift of power in the Bennet family!” Theo gasped, surprise written all over his face. He gazed at his phone again to make sure he read correctly. “It seems Chairman Bennet has fallen ill, and he’s given full authority not to his son, but to Stephen Bennet.”
“Stephen Bennet?”
“Yes! Not even to his heir, the current head of the family!” Theo’s mouth fell open in disbelief. “No one has confirmed it yet, but people are saying Atlas was kicked out of the company!”
“Impossible!” Mr. Miller intoned. “Even if the Bennets aren’t getting along, the chairman’s best interest has always been the company. It’s his life. There’s no way he would give Stephen Bennet full authority.”
If Stephen Bennet were that exceptional, he would’ve had the chance to be the head of the family a long time ago. However, Stephen failed and lost to Haines, while Haines lost to Charles. Even so, everyone had to admit that Atlas was in a different league, much better than his father and uncles combined in this matter.
“But it’s… it’s real!” Theo exclaimed in disbelief, showing his father his phone. “Dad, look! Someone sent this photo, saying it’s been going around since this morning!”
Mr. Miller narrowed his eyes and drew his head back, staring at the phone that showed a picture of Atlas. Considering the angle, it was taken from afar, but it was clear enough to show Atlas and Allen’s faces while the two of them were carrying a box out of the Global Prime Logistics building.
“Dad…” Theo slowly retracted his phone, looking at his father wide-eyed. “… Do you think Penelope Bennet wants to buy our company to compete with their uncle?”
—
Anyone with a brain would quickly analyze Penny’s actions as retaliation. If Atlas had been kicked out of the Bennet family, then it made sense they were buying the Miller family business. Even so, the men of the Miller family didn’t see this as anything more than its context.
Because if this were true, wouldn’t Atlas be the one buying their company and not Penny?
“Dad, good thing we called her early,” said Theo as they were getting closer to the Pierson Corporation. “Should we raise the price? Considering they want to fight their own family business, should we negotiate?”
Mr. Miller pondered. “No, let’s not do that.”
“Why?”
“Theo, you said it yourself. Our noses are barely above the water’s surface. As of right now, our family isn’t second to best. Penelope Bennet can always buy another company that her brother can run,” Mr. Miller explained, sparing his son from hearing his comments about Atlas. “With the Prime Group’s support and Atlas’s experience, it’s easier for them to make a name out of a no-name company.”
Theo lowered his head slightly to hide the bitterness on his face. ‘Even in terms of siblings, Atlas won. His sister has a successful company while mine…’ He didn’t want to think about how Patricia would laze around in their house and wait for a miracle to happen, just like a lazy person waiting for the fruit to fall from the tree.
“Theo, son, I know you’ve been working hard to help me keep our family afloat,” Mr. Miller reached out to his son and clasped his shoulder. “However, it doesn’t mean we’ve given up just because we wouldn’t negotiate. One thing I learned while doing business and going head-to-head with Charles Bennet is that profits aren’t the most important part of it. It’s the relationships we create.”
He paused and smiled at his son before shifting his eyes to the window behind Theo. “Penelope Bennet didn’t invite us into her office, but instead to the Pierson Corporation, to show us one thing: her connections are far wider than we expect.”
“Getting to use a small room in this building is still a big achievement for her, considering it’s not her territory,” he added, snapping his eyes back to his son. “She’s displaying her power and her relationship with the Pierson family. What I’m saying is, let’s not see her or the Bennets as competitors now.”
Theo nodded in understanding. “It’s better to be on their good side now.”
“Yes.”
“I understand.” Theo nodded again, watching as their car reached an underground parking space. “Wow. Even the Piersons’ parking lot is different from the rest.”
After all, the parking space was wide, and the majority of the cars they had seen so far were all top-of-the-line or from a high-end brand. The most amusing of all was that this floor level was just for ordinary workers. They knew because there was signage.
Each floor from the parking space had signs and names dedicated to different types of people in the company. It was more organized, which could appear either weird or just too organized.
“What floor are we heading to?” asked Theo when they reached the fourth-floor parking space. “I think I saw a ‘guests’ sign just a floor before this.”
Mr. Miller shook his head. “I have no idea.” Hence, Theo asked the driver what the security guard had told him where to park earlier.
“He told me to go to the executive floor, sir.”

“The — the executive floor?” Theo stammered.
Both father and son looked at each other in disbelief. It didn’t take long for them to reach the executive parking space, and when they did, both of them almost felt their jaws come loose. Unlike the parking space they had driven through, where all types of cars — even some sports cars — were parked, the executive parking space was almost empty.
At least there were only a few cars around. However, there was a huge group of people, all wearing smart casuals, standing in an organized formation.
Their car stopped in front of them.
“Dad…” Theo called, looking at the window where he could see some people standing as if to welcome them. His eyes, however, were more focused on the man standing in front of all of them. “… That man, I think I know him.”
“Who? That little guy?”
Theo nodded. “I just forgot where.”
At the same time, Benjamin knocked on the window and stepped aside. Despite their confusion, the father and son stepped out.
Benjamin flashed them a smile. “I was told to assist the men of the Miller family inside. Please come with me. Miss Penelope has been waiting for you.”
“Uh… yes, thank you,” Theo nodded awkwardly, casting his father a look. When both men were walking side by side with Benjamin, they could only wonder what kind of show this was.
They didn’t expect such a grand welcome. However, they decided not to ask because it was better that way. Thus, with Benjamin leading the way, they rode the elevator with him while the rest of the people stayed behind for the next one.
“…” Theo glanced up at the numbers above the door and then at the buttons that Benjamin pressed. “Uhm… aren’t we a little too high up?”
“Yes?” Benjamin looked back at him. “What do you mean by that, Sir Miller?”
Theo laughed awkwardly. “I mean, the floor. Mister…”
“Vitt. Benjamin Vitt.”
“Mr. Vitt, are you sure we’re heading to the top floor?”
“Yes. That’s where Miss Penelope is waiting.”
“Oh.” Theo nodded, biting his tongue to stop himself from asking any more questions. ‘Isn’t the top floor usually for high executives and the CEO’s office?’
But then again, this could be different, right? This was the Pierson Corporation. Their parking lot was already strange, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if their offices and floors didn’t follow the norm. There was no way Penny would use any top executive floor for her personal affairs. This was not her territory.
DING!
Theo’s thoughts halted when he heard the chime ring, promptly following Benjamin’s tracks. Whatever he had in mind previously was gone, and he focused on their agenda until he saw the office they were heading toward.
It was the CEO’s office — Zoren Pierson’s office.
