Chapter 955: He promised he wouldn’t bite.
“Wai — wait—!” Theo panicked and mindlessly grabbed Benjamin’s arm. The latter stopped and looked back at him, his brows furrowed as he glanced at his arm and then up to the pair of eyes mirroring his.
“Mister—Mister Vitt, you said Miss Penelope is waiting for us,” said Theo, his voice tinged with panic and confusion, watching Benjamin nod. “Then, why are we—ah, ahem!—why are we heading to the CEO’s office?”
Even Mister Miller, who was standing with them, could feel his son’s panic. Weren’t they here to meet Penny? How come Benjamin was leading them to the CEO’s office? Was this a trap? Considering the shame Patricia had put upon their family with the rumors about an unfounded relationship with Zoren Pierson, both men felt alarmed.
What was Penny thinking?
What was she planning?
As Theo and his father’s thoughts grew more negative by the second, Benjamin flashed them a polite smile.
“Do not worry,” he said. “Miss Penny only asked you to meet her here because she was already here when you called. She didn’t want to travel far since she has other matters to attend to and won’t be in her office until later in the afternoon.”
Benjamin casually pulled his arm from Theo’s grip. “She already mentioned that you’d be coming, so there’s no need to worry. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come down to welcome such distinguished guests.”
Theo and his father were rendered speechless, staring at Benjamin with wide eyes. Their mouths fell slightly open, unable to articulate their thoughts at the moment.
Penny simply asked them to meet her there because she was already there and didn’t have time to go back to her office?
What kind of ridiculous excuse was that?
Both father and son had initially thought that Penny would be using a small room for her business. Penny borrowing a room at the Pierson Corporation was already a huge achievement—it was considered a display of power for both of them.
But the biggest corner office on the top floor? The CEO’s office?
How grateful was Zoren Pierson to Penny for him to let her borrow such a personal space?
At this point, father and son could only watch as Benjamin knocked on the door listlessly. A plethora of questions were running through their minds, unable to distinguish whether they were impressed or scared.
This was the Pierson Corporation, not just any other company. The Millers would never compare to this family, even if they spent all their lives running their “little” business.
“Come in.”
Benjamin smiled and glanced back at the father and son duo. “Please, follow me.”
After saying that, Benjamin slowly opened the door. Somehow, its faint creak seemed to sound louder to the Millers than it should have. For some reason, both held their breaths, watching as the gap in the door widened.
As expected, the corner office on the top floor of this building was more spacious than one would imagine. Daylight streamed through the glass walls, flooding the vast space. Anyone entering would immediately spot the wide desk near the glass wall, behind which sat a man most people wouldn’t see on ordinary days.
The very man who could change lives or ruin entire companies overnight with the lift of his finger.
Theo and Mister Miller froze in place, their eyes fixed on Zoren. For a moment, they felt their hearts skip a beat.
Zoren was signing a few documents peacefully, unbothered by the people at the door. When he sensed their presence, his pen paused as he briefly lifted his eyes.
“Mister… Mister Pierson,” Theo breathed nervously, his face draining of color. ‘What is he doing here?’
Even though this was the CEO’s office, and it made sense that the CEO of the Pierson Corporation and the head of the Pierson family would be in his office, it still didn’t make sense to them. Even Mister Miller turned as pale as a sheet, his mind blank at the sight before him.
“Oh, you’re here?” Suddenly, Penny’s voice snapped the father and son out of their trance. Walking out from the connecting room of the corner office, Penny flashed them a smile. “Take a seat.”
Penny casually strutted across the room, her gait similar to a model walking down the runway. However, she stopped midway as she noticed the father and son looking at her with bewildered expressions.
Theo and his father, now with gaping mouths, instinctively shifted their gaze from Penny’s figure to the man behind the desk. Zoren, at the same time, peeled his eyes away from them as if he couldn’t be bothered with any of them.
Seeing where the father and son were looking, Penny chuckled and quipped. “Oh, don’t mind him. He’ll leave in a bit for a meeting. Come on, sit down.”
Theo and Mister Miller were still speechless, watching Penny motion toward the couches. “Don’t be shy. If you’re worried about Zoren Pierson, you don’t have to. He promised he wouldn’t bite.”

“CEO Miller? Mister Miller?” Benjamin called, politely gesturing toward Penny. “Please come in.”
“Uh…” Theo cleared his throat as he glanced at his father. They shared the same expression—and, for sure, the same sentiment.
Why was Penny acting as if Zoren Pierson was just a display in his own office?!
Weren’t they supposed to discuss the buyout? Even if they needed a witness for this agreement, did it have to be Zoren Pierson?
Either way, Mister Miller and Theo swallowed the lumps in their throats and dragged their feet inside. Before they could even reach their seats, beads of sweat had already formed on their foreheads, dampening their hairlines. Their hands and feet felt cold, their palms sweating profusely. If not for their blazers, they were certain their shirts were already damp with sweat as well.
They reached their seats, stricken with anxiety and confusion. They couldn’t help but wonder if this was about the buyout or something else—it didn’t feel like it. Slowly, they shifted their eyes toward the one-seater chair—the head seat—where Penny sat, her lips curling into a smile as her eyes squinted.
“Shall we proceed to the terms and conditions of the buyout?”
