Chapter 980: Agreeing to the arrangement
Another moment of silence reigned in the dining room as no one uttered a single word. Charles’s eyes continued to widen as his mouth fell open.
“No, I’m not! I used to be married, but then she left to the ether!” Wild roared, in utter disbelief, as he was being put in this line of virgins. “Also, my wife is beautiful. At least, when we were together, she was beautiful!”
But alas, everything Wild said quickly faded into the thickening silence in the air. No one cared because everyone’s attention was on Charles’s son. Setting his eyes on them, his face scrunched up in dismay.
“You’re saying… none of you have dated before?”
“I did!” Hugo was quick to answer, almost as if he were forced to do so. “I once had this thing with the doctor at our base.”
Jessa arched her brow as she replied, “Really?”
“Yes, really!” Hugo nodded. “She takes care of me, and I protect her from any harm!”
“How did the two of you break up, and how come no one heard about this story before?”
“Penny heard about it!” he panicked. “We broke up because… well, I don’t think we broke up. My injuries healed, so she stopped seeing me. I let her be because… I can still protect her if I fight for the country.”
Everyone: “…”
Was Hugo saying he was dating all the men and women in Anteca because he was fighting for them as well?
As for Hugo’s defense, he had dated before. At least, he talked to some women in the past whom he was attracted to. However, he was also aware that, as a soldier, he couldn’t commit to another relationship. Heck, he couldn’t even see his family for months, sometimes years. How could he let another person wait for him or, worse, give her anxiety about whether or not he could come back? Thus, it was never Hugo’s priority.
This could be true for his other brothers as well.
Jessa shook her head in disbelief while Wild snorted. They were so rendered speechless by Hugo’s answer that they wondered if Hugo was simply trying to bring up a pathetic lie, hoping they would buy it, or if the concept of dating was something his thick brain hadn’t fully processed yet.
“I have tons of admirers!” This time, it was Slater who spoke. “With this beauty, I don’t think finding a partner will be hard. Just look at me — handsome, smart, and youthful!”
“I don’t question the first and last one, but the second one?” Jessa muttered, her voice only audible to Wild, who was seated beside her.
“This kid…” Wild shook his head. “Being beautiful doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. If it were that easy, I would’ve found a second and third wife by now.”
Slater pouted as his shoulders drooped.
In Slater’s past life, he had dated a lot. To be precise, he used to have a long list of girlfriends. Despite his good public reputation, it was no secret to people behind the entertainment industry that he was a playboy. He changed girlfriends as quickly as he changed clothes. Sometimes, he would have more than one lover at the same time.
He was… a dick — used to be.
It was because of that that Slater’s energy in filling something in his heart had been depleted. He wanted to use that energy to protect and love his little sister. Who cared if he would grow old without a wife, just like Haines? He would be fine as long as his family, especially Penny, was happy.
‘Why does Aunt Jessa and Dad have to make it sound like being a virgin is such a shameful thing?’ he mumbled in his mind. ‘I am not a virgin! At least, this soul isn’t as pure anymore.’
“Fine.” Surprisingly, Atlas was quick to surrender. “If that will make Penny happy, then I don’t mind going through every hole I can. Shouldn’t be hard.”
“Uh… Atlas, you don’t have to be so intense — haha!” Jessa laughed nervously, seeing that Atlas seemed a little too determined. “It’s not that bad, trust me. Besides, no one is saying you have to sleep with them.”
“Still, sex is… should I say, liberating?” Wild blurted out and glanced at Zoren. “Just look at him. He’s pale complexion is gone, but rather, he’s now glowing.”
Everyone instinctively moved their gaze to Zoren, who had no qualms about sharing his thoughts on the matter. But just as he smiled and opened his mouth, he felt that his life was in danger.
‘Right…’ Zoren decided to close his mouth. ‘I don’t think her father or her brothers are prepared to hear what I do to his daughter and their sister. I guess her brothers think that Penny and I are just housemates and don’t do anything naughty.’
Charles clicked his tongue as he peeled his deadly glare from his son-in-law. Although being one was something a married couple does, Zoren’s wife was still his daughter. Penny would always be his princess. Therefore, he preferred not to hear a word about it.
He might flip.
His sons, on the other hand, kept their eyes narrowed at Zoren. They didn’t take their eyes off of him until Zoren was looking away to avoid their gazes.

“You guys…” Allison sighed heavily, shaking her head. “If you don’t want to, then just let Grandma Pierson know you cannot. Be polite about it. However, it’s still not going to hurt if you try. After all, Atlas, you have nothing else to do now that you’re kicked out of the company. Hugo, and you, Slater, keep doing everything else to kill time. Why not try this?”
“If it doesn’t work, at least you tried. Besides, your Uncle Haines and Uncle Wild will appreciate that you guys are being supportive,” she continued, offering them an encouraging smile. “As for why Penny did this, we might find out once she gets better. But for now, it’s best if we make some progress until then.”
Allison paused as her lips stretched from ear to ear. To be honest, she simply didn’t want them all drowning in worry because of Penny. She was certain Penny wouldn’t like that either. Hence, if this dating could send them away and give them something else to think about, then she encouraged it.
“Just… try,” she added, nodding. “All of you. No harm will come for sure, and not only would Penny be less worried, but Grandma Pierson too.”
Silence enveloped the room again, leaving everyone looking at each other. The meal ended in silence after they agreed to this dreadful arrangement.
