Chapter 996: Not one of Wild’s problem
Meanwhile, on the Bennet men’s side…
Charles sighed for the umpteenth time, glancing in the rearview mirror to see the faces of his sons. But none of them seemed to care about the epic failure of a day they had. Instead, his sons were in the back seat of the van, doing their own thing: Atlas was quietly staring at the side of the road, Hugo was sleeping in the back, and Slater was busy with his phone.
Shaking his head, Charles cast a sidelong glance at Haines. Haines had his elbow propped against the window, eyes on the side of the road.
‘He came back late, so I had to cancel his last date,’ thought Charles. ‘But even though we sat at the same table for around thirty minutes while the boys were wrapping up another disastrous date, he didn’t tell me anything about his date with that woman.’
Charles narrowed his eyes suspiciously, puckering his lips. He shifted his attention to the road ahead, running his tongue across his inner cheek, thinking of a plan to make Haines talk. It wasn’t like Charles hadn’t tried asking. In fact, he had asked James and Allen as well. Unfortunately, all they got was the same experience Haines’s date had today — an answer with no room for continuation.
“Hah!” Suddenly, Slater perked up. The sudden noise he created earned everyone’s attention. He looked around the van, his finger pointing at the driver’s seat where Charles was seated, Haines in the front-row seat, Atlas on his side, and then Hugo in the back.
“What is wrong with you?” Hugo groggily groaned, jolting awake from Slater’s brief wailing. “For a second, I thought we were having an accident.”
“Is it just me, or do I think someone’s missing?” asked Slater, his brows knitted tightly. “I think another person should be here… no?”
Atlas arched a brow while Hugo tilted his head to the side. After a second, the two of them rocked their heads as they intuitively set their eyes on the front.
“Weren’t you with Penny’s other uncle?” Atlas asked his father and Haines. “How come I didn’t see him during lunch?”
“Yes! Him!” Slater clapped, turning his head in the same direction Atlas was looking. “What happened to him? Did he ditch the date?!”
“Wow…” Unlike them, Hugo was in awe. “He is the man. So fearless!”
Haines looked back at them and smiled. “He didn’t ditch them. He clicked with his first date, so he canceled all his other dates.”
“Eh?” Slater scrunched up his nose, thinking of Wild’s appearance. “Impossible! I guess having low standards can easily give you a lover.”
Everyone automatically ignored Slater’s unpleasant side comments.
“I didn’t know you could do that,” Atlas frowned, disappointed at himself that he hadn’t thought of that before. If only he knew, he would’ve pretended to like the first woman he met today and told everyone he was interested in her. He could’ve just ditched her once his dates were canceled. “I’m learning… so I guess that’s fine. Charge to experience.”
“Wow! Way to go, Penny’s uncle!” Hugo whistled happily. “I’m happy for him.”
“Which is why this is more disappointing,” Charles mumbled, thinking that his sons were all blessed with Allison and his good genes. However, it was Wild who succeeded in this dating. “How am I supposed to face your mother now? Oh, my goodness. I’m more tired today than when I play golf with Haines.”
“Wild doesn’t have anyone with him, not because he can’t find one or has low standards,” Haines added, eyes on Slater. “It’s just that Wild knows women well, and it’s never a problem for him. He likes taking his time.”
“Impossible,” Atlas, Hugo, and Slater replied in unison, making Haines laugh.
“Now, you three are being judgmental,” Charles clicked his tongue while shaking his head. “If you think your face is going to save you, you’d be surprised just how little those pretty faces matter to women.”
Even so, Atlas, Hugo, and Slater didn’t believe it. Not that Wild was ugly, but he looked like a gangster or a loan shark who was dressed in a suit to look “presentable.” Besides, Wild wasn’t fit — he was a big guy with a loud mouth.
Would women really like someone like him?
—
At the same time, in a karaoke bar…
“Hahaha!” A gorgeous woman covered her mouth, slapping Wild’s shoulder as she could barely contain her laughter. She was so beautiful that one would be surprised to know her age. “You’re so funny, Wild.”
Wild smirked proudly. “Hey, you haven’t heard me sing properly. If you did, you’d be surprised.”
“Really?” she grinned, her eyes gleaming while her dimples appeared.
“Of course!” Wild cleared his throat as he rose to his feet. He smoothly did a moonwalk, eyes narrowing at the woman. Once he was standing across the table, he pointed a finger at her. “Sit there and relax, señorita. Let this gentleman entertain you and make your time worthwhile.”
Wild then reached for the cowboy hat in the corner of the table and skillfully placed it over his head. The woman chuckled, covering her lips with the back of her hand. Much to her surprise, Wild suddenly moved his body along with the beat of the music, his hips swaying to and fro, his knees bent, his other hand resting on top of his cowboy hat.

“Oh…” the woman covered her mouth, surprised by his movements.
“Baby, lock the door and turn the lights down low~”
Her mouth fell open, her eyes shimmering in surprise as his low baritone voice started caressing her ears.
“I’ve been thinking about this all day long. Never felt a feeling quite this strong…~”
She slowly pursed her lips, watching how his brow rose briefly and how his eyes would narrowly focus on her. Wild might have been a big guy, and at first glance, he could be very intimidating. However, the more she talked to him and spent time with him, the more she couldn’t help but see the charm this big bear had.
“… just to be your man.”
Her cheeks flushed pink, and her lips stretched into a broad smile. When his hand reached out to her, she willingly clasped it and let him guide her into a slow dance while he continued singing.
Unexpectedly, Haines wasn’t exaggerating. Wild was undeniably charming, and this area was certainly not one of his problems. Those arrogant boys from the Bennet family should learn from him.
