Chapter 997: This is bad
[SKYLINE PLAZA: ZOREN’s]
Penny sucked on her inner cheeks, narrowing her eyes at the ceiling. Another long hum escaped her closed lips, and her mind was filled with the image of Zoren slamming the door. She sat up abruptly when she couldn’t take it anymore.
“Did he hear me or not?” she asked herself for the umpteenth time. “Or did he mishear me? Is that why he was angry?”
Penny should be resting, but how could she rest when her husband had just slammed the door on her right after she told him she loved him? That wasn’t a normal reaction.
“It’s not like I would be angry if he didn’t say anything back,” she grumbled. “But why is he acting angry?”
She then fixed her sharp eyes on Renny and Chunchun. “Say, do you think your father heard what I said?”
Renny kept its head over its paws while Chunchun purred. They didn’t move an inch, watching their mother ruffle her hair with both hands.
‘Isn’t she supposed to be resting to recover?’ wondered Renny. ‘She doesn’t look sick at all.’
‘It’s probably the last surge of energy before death,’ thought Chunchun, yawning nonchalantly because the little white cat couldn’t care less. Though Chunchun had worried about Penny last night, seeing Penny now — she wasn’t worried anymore.
Chunchun had grown up under Penny’s care. Therefore, the cat knew that Penny wouldn’t die so easily. Penny would always put up a fight to keep her life, even if it meant going against the entire universe. But it was nice to tease Renny.
“Goodness,” Penny huffed. “I said I’d behave, and I really want to, but I’m bothered.”
Penny didn’t feel sick anymore. Well, she was always like that in this lifetime. She would only get sick for a night, and then she would be fine the next day like nothing happened. The only reason she was listening to Allison and Zoren was that she didn’t want to worry them further. She wanted them to see that she was resting and recovering for their peace of mind.
“I can’t even ask Chunchun and Blacky to come here…” she mumbled, pouting as she gazed at her pets dramatically. “They’re my healing buddies. Whenever I feel sad or unwell, hugging them heals me. But now, I can only look at you guys and wonder what’s up with Renren.”
Penny pursed her lips and pondered. She thought about it for a moment before casting a sneaky look at the door.
“They wouldn’t get angry if they didn’t know, right?” she asked herself before giggling, making her pets wonder what she was up to now. Penny cleared her throat and quietly swung her legs out of the bed.
She tiptoed her way to Renny and Chunchun, squatting down in front of them. Placing a finger in front of her mouth, she hushed and then got up. Penny quickly went to the walk-in closet, picking up a lint roller, some cologne, and a small mite vacuum. She hid all of them under the bed, making sure they were within her reach but not too noticeable.
Once she hid them well, she dusted her hands off and grinned in satisfaction. Her pets were still wondering what she was doing while she tiptoed her way toward the door. She had to make sure that Zoren and Allison weren’t around or that no one was coming to the bedroom.
With that thought in mind, Penny carefully twisted the knob and pulled the door open. She cautiously peeked through the small gap, only to freeze when she caught sight of Zoren’s figure.
‘What the—how come he’s still there?!’ she mentally panicked, only seeing a part of Zoren’s back through the small gap. Penny widened the gap to get a better view, as she could barely see her husband’s figure. ‘What is he doing here? Don’t tell me he’s been standing outside the room since he left to guard the door. Or he just came but decided not to see me?’
Myriads of questions surged in Penny’s mind as she slowly widened the gap. Just then, she heard Allison’s voice, making her close it a little bit.
“Zoren? What are you…” Allison trailed off, standing on the last step of the stairs. Her eyes slowly grew wide, and deep lines appeared on her forehead. “Oh, my goodness!”
Without thinking, Allison placed the bowl of sliced fruits she was bringing into Penny’s room on the floor. She quickly rushed to Zoren, holding his arm, as he was having a nosebleed and looked very pale.
“Oh, my goodness!” Allison panicked. “Are you—what happened? Wait, you should take a seat.”
Zoren closed his eyes briefly, gripping the railing tightly. “I’m dizzy.”
“Yes, yes…” Allison breathed out. “That’s why you should sit down first.”
Allison was aware of Zoren’s fragile health because she had been told about it, and Charles was worried about it. Her husband would always mention it. That’s why Allison knew that Hugo was helping Zoren strengthen his body while Penny helped her husband heal internally. Therefore, Allison was frantic because she didn’t know what to do.
All she knew was that Zoren’s health was sensitive, and she was afraid of making a mistake.
“I’ll call your doctors,” said Allison as soon as Zoren was seated on the floor, his back against the railing. “Where should I get—right! I think I saw the emergency numbers somewhere in the living area.”
Her eyes shook as she could see the blood on Zoren’s upper lip and the blood that smeared on his clothes and hands. Her entire body was trembling, but she kept telling herself to stay clear-headed.
“Mom…?” Just then, Penny decided to get up as she grasped the panic in Allison’s voice and saw Zoren being assisted to sit on the floor. She froze as soon as the scene became clearer to her, darting her eyes between the two.

Her breath hitched as her mind went blank for a moment. After a beat, she jumped and rushed to them. Squatting down beside her mother and Zoren, Penny quickly scanned Zoren. He was trying his best to keep his eyes open, but his vision was spinning, making him even more dizzy.
“I think… I’m going to throw…” Zoren couldn’t even finish his sentence before turning to the side, throwing up.
Penny’s and Allison’s eyes dilated as Penny’s pupils constricted, her face hardening as they saw the red fluid on the floor.
“Mom… call anyone for help,” Penny breathed out. “This is bad.”
