Chapter 399: Night Riders First Secret

“What would I become?” she asked. She could feel it deep in her bones. The changes that are coming would change her, so she wants to know.

“You will become an existence known as a Night Rider. Most would call you Riders of the Night or the Night Warden. And as a Night Rider, you are neither dead nor alive, for you hang in the middle.

You will become an invincible being in the night and have supreme authority over the flames of hell. You will also have insight into the supernatural, and if you once were, then you will be again,” Uncle Drew explained.

“If you once were, then you will be again. Can you explain this part?”

“It sounds exactly as it means. The Night Riders were beings who fought in these universes, but we all died.”

Kent raised an eyebrow. “This is new information,” he said. He had asked before, but Uncle Drew knew little to nothing about who he was or what any of this meant.

“Yes. You remember that Queen of the Underworld I told you about?” Uncle Drew asked.

“Nyx…” Strangely, Kent had always had this name on his lips since he first heard it.

“Yes. According to her, when we met in the Underworld, I am something of an incarnation of the first Night Rider. And yes, she knew I was a Night Rider before I even told her.

But after spending a few years working with her, I found out a small part of the truth. We Night Riders are indeed incarnations of our past selves.

I tried to understand how we came into being, but she said only some ancient book — one that takes one’s longevity when read — could disclose that.

She also said every Night Rider is still born with their memories locked within them, and it will take some time to start recalling them.

Kent smiled, for he understood where he was coming from. He himself had grown by leaps and bounds after his second memory recovery, so he knew Uncle Drew was telling the truth.

But while he was smiling, he still couldn’t figure out who this Nyx lady was or why she was going out of her way to help his subordinate.
