Chapter 400: Veyrha, The Twilight Brand (1)
Vey, a child born in the night, was destined to command the night.
Born to a scholar mother and a warrior father, she was the popular child among her peers. She had her mother’s status to lean on and her father’s warrior spirit to brag about.
She was lazy but very interesting to be around.
They called her the True Princess, for in their empire, she had more fame than most princesses.
Of course, she didn’t care what name she was called, for her only reason for living was to make her parents happy.
Her studies were good, and she picked up the sword when she came of age. But in her heart, she never truly wanted to be a warrior or become a scholar. If possible, she would forever be free and do as she pleased.
But destiny said otherwise.
It was a bleak night, one unlike any other. The shallow night changed everything for her.
Years before Ebonviel appeared in the universe, there were rumors of it.
Many called it the First Universe, some called it the Mini Universe, and others called it the Dead Universe. But on the 14th moon of the Ebon Year, the veil broke, and darkness descended.
That was the day Vey saw true darkness, and among the millions who saw it, she was the only one fascinated by it.
The dark depth gazing at her was a breathtaking sight for her.
The veil cracked, and the battle between Kael Duskbane, a being wielding two longswords and riding on the back of a death horse, and a Dreadknight began.
The battle broke the veil that separated the known universe from Ebonviel, the world of true darkness where Raveth, the Wraith Queen, ruled.
Kael was her right-hand man, a warrior unlike any other. The battle lasted for an hour until the Dreadknight was drowned against the relentless onslaught of Kael’s dual blades.
That day, after the battle was over and Kael was leaving, he turned and stared at one person. That person was Vey, who, from that very moment, found the motivation she needed to pick up the sword again.
She started to train, and before long, she began to shock everyone around her. Soon, those who heard of her began to spread her legend.
Thousands of years passed, and Vey reached a stage in swordsmanship where even the so-called sword geniuses of her world could only bow in surrender.
But to Vey, she never truly desired any of this, for the only reason she was training was for when the veil opened again. She wanted to enter that place.
Yet, for thousands of years, the veil remained closed—until it finally opened, when the Realm of Ebonviel was in distress. Kael came for her.
The forbidden legend has it that for 1,022 days, a great battle rocked Ebonviel when the Wraith Queen was betrayed by her second general.
They fought, and in the end, the Wraith Queen was forced to make a huge sacrifice for the future of what she was destined to protect.
Legend has it that when the battle was nearing its end, the Wraith Queen gazed at the 66 individuals who acted as her weapons and killed for her.
Vey was one of the 66, for she fought and killed to her heart’s content. But in the end, they still lost—or were on track to lose.
The Wraith Queen was stabbed in the back and was destined to die, for there was nothing that could save her.
The Wraith Queen looked at the 66, and a rare smile appeared.
“I was told a day like this would come—the day I would fall and my legend would come to an end. But you know me, I am stubborn and never truly listened to things like that.
But I guess this is the end.
However, I am not sad because, at this moment, I have 66 amazing people I can call family. You all proved to me that despite my distant lifestyle, I can still have friends and a family.
This is a blessing to a person like me.

This is why I won’t listen to fate again and will do as I please.
I saw what follows, but I cannot, in good conscience, die and leave you all to face that danger. So, before I die, I will leave something behind—something that, one day in the future, will make sense.”
She slashed her chest open and stabbed her hand into the wound, retrieving her crystal heart.
“This is the Mark of the Night, but I will call it the Heart of the Night Riders. You all are creatures of the night, and so I will make you creatures who can harness the power of the night.
Your legend will end soon, and it will be hidden from everyone. But one day will come when the legend of the Night Riders will spread across worlds and encompass the entire universe.
Go, and let your name be known by many, for when the night comes and you open your eyes, no weapon in existence can kill you.”

The sky inside the tower shook, and at once, eternal darkness enveloped everything, preventing everyone except Nara, Uncle Drew, Saden, and Kent from seeing what followed next.
Up in the air, Nara was moved deeper into the clouds, where a dark, colossal head of a wraith appeared. Then it moved and swallowed her whole.
“That is a wraith, right?” Kent asked, and Uncle Drew nodded.
“That is a wraith, young master. They are creatures of legend. From what I know about them, they command the night, for they are creatures born from the night.
Many legends even say that they were once the true overlords of the beasts, for they can’t easily be killed, especially at night.”
“I see,” Kent nodded, staring at the events in the dark clouds, which were exuding a rather powerful energy.
“If my calculations are correct, then she is being reborn as a wraith-human hybrid,” Uncle Drew smiled.
This smile was because of something he discovered. In the small memory he had remembered, he saw Nara in it. That day, when he saw her, he knew she was someone he shared destiny with.
Now, staring at her, he could only smile and wait for the outcome.
