Chapter 509: The hunter
Who is the Hunter?

One hundred fifty years ago, out of nowhere, a certain cultivator appeared on the Ancient Battlefield of Parting and, within seven days, killed thousands of people regardless of their race.

It was said that during this massacre, every race in the world of Sonox sent their best and brightest to apprehend this rogue cultivator.

However, what met them was a bloodbath that left a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth to this day. The Hunter only went quiet and hasn’t been heard from again since the Dragon King and the Shadow Demon Lord went after it.

Nobody knew whether this Hunter was a he or a she. But one thing was known—killing the Hunter wouldn’t be as simple as they might want to think.

The Hunter killed a lot, and every background in the world of Sonox lost someone to this massacre.

Even the Oracles weren’t spared in the unholy massacre, so hearing the Hunter was on the loose again made them plan for both Kent and definitely wouldn’t let this mysterious Hunter off easily.

Currently, inside the Winding Valley, located somewhere in Kyrrith Kingdom, the ugly man who tried to challenge Kent back in Caprath City could be seen face to face with Veydris, who was holding his longsword firmly and gazing sharply at the ugly man’s neck.

Well, Veydris doesn’t have emotions, but the look in his eyes was enough to show the man that if he made any sudden moves, his life would be in danger.

Kent only told Veydris to keep an eye on the ugly man; however, Veydris took that literally and had been staring daggers at the ugly man for the past 14 hours.

Suddenly, mocking laughter filled the space, causing the ugly man to turn to his left and meet Kent’s gaze.

Kent hovered in the air with Zareth, Sylara, Vaelros, and Kaizo behind him. The line-up was terrifying, and the ugly man who came to kill Kent started to sense that perhaps he had made a mistake.

“I know what you’re thinking—why does it have to be this way? You came to kill me, yet here you are, surrounded with no chance of escape in sight,” Kent said, smiling at the ugly man.

This caused him to frown, bringing out his features, which only made him uglier.

“You probably have regrets and would love to correct them before dying. However, I don’t have much time to entertain you, so tell me this—where is your master? And don’t ask me how I knew. I can see a slave from a mile away.”

The mention of “slave” made the man frown deeper. His hands moved, and before Kent could say or act, he drove a dagger through his chest, ending his own life.

“Looks like you hit the nail too hard, Master,” Kaizo said, and Kent nodded with a smile.

“He was dead anyway. I didn’t see it earlier when we met in Caprath City because of my weak cultivation base.

But now that I have become a Root Ascension stage expert, I can tell he was long dead without him even knowing it,” Kent said.

“Looks like your necromancy abilities are surfacing, Master,” Sylara said. “I saw the death aura around him, too, and from the look of things, his master can’t be underestimated.”

“This begs the question—who is his master?” Zareth wasn’t even done speaking when the body on the ground burst, filling the entire space with a pungent smell.

The mist also created a translucent air that made seeing and sensing difficult. However, Zareth just waved his hand, and within seconds, the mist cleared.

However, the moment it cleared, a scene that terrified all of them, including Kent, greeted them.

Before them stood a lineup of 14 Core Formation experts, each sitting at the peak. They all held swords, and their eyes were covered with strips of dark cloth.

Their aura wasn’t just suffocating; it also contained poison. The moment Kent breathed it in, a message appeared in his vision:

⟪You’ve been poisoned. All stats dropped by 20%⟫

“This is rather disappointing. To think they would use their one chance at summoning me on a mere Root Ascension stage brat. How disappointing.”

A voice echoed from everywhere, as if the speaker were all around them at once. The voice wasn’t that of a lady or a man. It was a blend of both, with a touch of evil.

However, Kent didn’t bother looking around like Kaizo and the others were doing.

He merely turned slightly to his left and spoke.

“I wonder why they would call out a coward to come after me. I mean, using poison from the get-go. How disappointing.” Kent didn’t bother polishing his words, knowing the person wouldn’t let him go.

“Hahahaha…” the person laughed, then asked a question that would have sent chills down the spine of anyone, except Kent.

“Have you ever heard of the Hunter?”

“Can’t say I have. But even if I did, what about it?” Kent asked.

“You are arrogant.” Clearly, the voice didn’t appreciate Kent’s tone. His attitude wasn’t encouraging at all. The monologue the voice wanted to have was falling flat thanks to Kent’s indifferent replies.

Kent knew this and planned not to allow the voice to have that chance to monologue. Only he get to monologue as it should be.

“You don’t have to tell me who you are. I know you are the Hunter, once famous for killing 7,200 beings within seven days. Using their souls, blood, spirit roots, and hearts, you created these 14 abominations.

You went into hiding after the leader of The Hand saved you from the Dragon King and the Shadow Demon Lord.

Since you owe The Hand a debt, they summoned you to come after me.

I didn’t expect anything less from people running the entire world. However, I have one question: What happens now that you’re here? You’re a pawn here, so tell me…

Are you confident you’ll be leaving here alive?”

“You, a mere Root Ascension stage brat, and your wannabe subordinates think you can kill me and my Hunter army?” A figure clad in dark, tattered cloth appeared above the 14 abominations with a smirk on her lips.

It didn’t take Kent a second to know she was some form of Necromancer.

The moment she appeared, a powerful aura exploded from her body, revealing that she sat at the peak of the Core Formation stage. But unlike the 14 abominations, her aura is much deeper and dangerous.

Her presence was so overbearing that Kent and his undead were forced down, landing on the ground.

The lady smirked, then used Kent’s own words against him.

“Are you confident you’ll be leaving here alive?”

In response, Kent raised his right hand, extending the middle finger first, before snapping his fingers. “But of course.”

The dense pressure falling on him evaporated the moment he snapped his fingers.

The Hunter frowned, sensing her control over Kent vanish just like that. This wasn’t something she expected, but she shrugged and pointed forward.

“Kill him.”

Upon receiving the order, the 14 abominations charged forward. However, before they could move a meter, a portal appeared in the air, and a giant axe shot out, blocking their path.

A three-meter-tall, green-skinned, colossal Orc emerged from the portal, gazing coldly at the 14 abominations…
