Chapter 642: The Faceless Assassin [Bonus]
Kent appeared in a rather bizarre place.
When his consciousness was pulled away, he found himself in front of an old castle. It was old, considering the worn-out walls and wood. Crows circled it as if it were some ritual ground.
Creak.
Suddenly, the large door creaked open, and a voice came from inside, causing Kent to wonder if he should be there in the first place.
“You’re not going to keep standing there, are you?”
Kent gave the castle a curious look for a few more seconds before walking inside. Surprisingly, the interior wasn’t that eerie. However, it wasn’t without its wonders and some terrific displays.
On one side of the large hall where he appeared, a young man stood, cleaning a stained dagger. Lying on the table were thousands of different weapons that had been polished to their finest.
“First rule of an assassin, always treat your weapons like you treat yourself,” the man behind the table said, focusing on the dagger for a couple of minutes before turning to Kent.
“You arrived earlier than I expected… So why don’t we change location?” With that, Kent found himself standing on a large bridge made out of bone.
Perhaps that was how he saw it, or how it looked, but the bone was colossal and formed into a bridge. The river below had black water, and even from the bridge, Kent could tell that many hungry monsters were hidden within.
Kent focused his attention on the man beside him.
Although this person had short, dark hair and handsome features, he paled in comparison to Chaos’s handsomeness.
It was just that he didn’t look too eerie, similar to Kent. However, comparing him to other people didn’t suit him either, because while he stood with Kent, Kent could have sworn the man didn’t have one face.
It was like when he blinked, a new face stared at him. However, he also understood that every face somehow resembled his own.
“You tell me when you are done,” the man said with a smile.
“Go ahead, what is your name and your true face?” Kent asked, getting straight to the point. If this man was supposed to be his past, the least he could do was show him his face.
“I remember my name, but I forgot how I look. Of course, you will soon find out my actual appearance, considering you will be going down memory lane soon enough.
But for now, you can call me Faceless.”
“And it gets weirder by the second,” Kent sighed. Having just finished retrieving a part of Chaos’ memories, being asked to be called Faceless by a new version of himself didn’t sound too bad.
After all, he had already accepted the fact that his incarnations would have weirder names.
“So, Faceless, why am I here?” Kent asked.
“How would I know? You’re the one who came here, so why don’t you tell me why you’re here?” Faceless looked at Kent for a few seconds before a smirk appeared on his face.
“Just messing with you. The reason you’re here is that I have something to show you.” Faceless looked down, staring at the black water as if there was something hidden inside.
“This is the Sea of Darkness. It is one of the oldest seas in the universe, and hidden deep inside is the gate to the Lost Realm. Some famous swordsman left it…
I have never been there before, but from what I know, the hidden races are there and looking for a way back.
Of course, not all of them deserve to be back. But most are to be brought back, for they will be needed. Again, don’t ask me what they will be required for because I don’t know.”
“I understand. I will stay away from there,” Kent nodded with a thoughtful expression. He didn’t want to show it, but he had a nagging feeling that nothing good would ever come of it—and he was right.
“That is the thing, because of me, you will have to go there,” Faceless said, and Kent’s brow furrowed.
“Why?” he asked.
“Because you have to, else you will die,” Faceless replied with a smile.

“Why again?” Kent asked.
“Because to get where you want to go—where we want to go—we must first get to the Lost Realm. That is the only way, and while I would love to say there is another way, there isn’t.
Trust me, I have looked, and the only thing I found was nothing. So I brought you here to show you this because it isn’t in my memories.
That will be all.”
Kent nodded. He already had a lot of things to do, so adding one more wouldn’t be too much of an ask.
“Where can I find it?”
“I don’t know. And before you raise your brow, know that I truly don’t know, so don’t bother asking me. But I do know this: the Lost Realm will seek you when you are ready.
Somehow, you will know where to go when the time is right. So just prepare and be ready. That is all I can say.
Aside from that, though, I must warn you: learning the Faceless Art is not something to be taken for granted.
It is one of the most profound Arts in existence, and taking it as a joke will cost you. It has the potential to do so much good, but also to bring calamity.
So, if you’re not ready, don’t indulge in it. Also, never forget how you look… I made that mistake, and it cost me so much that I sometimes get lost in the thrill of the hunt.”
Kent sighed inwardly as his consciousness began to drift away. He was nearing the end of his stay in the realm he was in. “One last question… what can you tell me of the Midnight Shadows?”
Faceless smiled at Kent, then chuckled. “You can trust them, but you must be careful… they are some of the most dangerous assassins in the universe.”
With that, Kent vanished into the first memory he had of Faceless.
