Chapter 414: Mistaken
Mira’s heart tightened when she saw Alex’s reaction.
She didn’t need to see more to know that something was terribly wrong.
Immediately, she unleashed her own spatial perception, though it was much more limited in range compared to Alex’s.
But the moment she unleashed it, she knew the difference in range didn’t matter.
Because there it was.
Farther to the northeast, around 40 kilometres away, an unmistakable concentration of life signatures — thousands of them — clustered together in what could only be described as a well organised encampment.
And every single one of those life signatures pulsed with the familiar, vile energy that marked them as Red Demons.
Not just ordinary Red Demons either.
Many of the life signatures were far stronger than the typical cannon fodder they’d encountered before.
Several were on par with some of the fiercest foes they had fought yet.
And at the height of it all, was one particularly alarming life signature on par with that of the King of Evermoor…
It was very obviously the leader of this Red Demon encampment, and from what Alex could tell he wasn’t King class like the King of Evermoor was.
But he had an equal strength to one…
In fact, just from scanning him with his perception, Alex could tell that this Red Demon didn’t even meet the requirements that had been laid out for him to rank up and leave the Primordial Expanse, as the level of power he sensed was that of a B- rank Variant class!
Even his requirement to rank up was B+ rank Variant class…
This Red Demon was clearly a prodigy of some sorts… having strength far above his own rank…
Mira’s jaw clenched as she sensed it too.
This was no small scouting force or leftover garrison.
This was a fully established base camp, filled with Red Demons who were clearly not worried about an immediate human counterattack.
“That’s… not possible…”
She muttered to herself in a slightly trembling voice.
“If the Federation reclaimed this planet, there shouldn’t be a single Red Demon left within the entire Telorn system, let alone on the surface of Eldaris…”
Only one thought entered the both of their minds after Mira uttered this.
Alex was shaking his head slowly with a still darkening expression on his face.
“No, there wouldn’t be a base camp filled with Red Demons if we’d won this planet back. But…”
He paused, taking a shaky breath out of sheer fury as the reality of their situation settled over him like a suffocating weight.
“I think we were mistaken.”
He said, voice thick with a mix of disbelief and simmering rage.
Even clenching his fists caused the air to slightly crack around them.
“I think we lost Eldaris… and with how relaxed those guys look, I think we lost the rest of the Telorn system too…”

Mira’s gaze snapped out, off into the distance. She looked a little lost.
“But things were so equal before we left… what the hell happened in this time for things to get so bad for us!?”
Mira couldn’t contain her hatred, shock and frustration.
The silence that followed was heavy and oppressive.
But then Alex followed it up with a question that while they hadn’t considered until that moment, was very concerning for them.
“So we’ve essentially just landed deep into enemy territory then?”
Mira’s eyes widened as she processed Alex’s question.
‘He’s right…’
They had essentially escaped the tiger’s grasp and landed in the dragon’s den.
From one bad situation to a completely fucked up situation.
Surrounded on all fronts, they were quite literally as deep as they could get into the enemy territory.
“Yes… we have.”
Mira murmured softly, still staring into the distance, feeling utterly disoriented.
“But how is that possible? The Federation wouldn’t have abandoned this place without a fight. The lines were stable, the defence here was solid…”
“Something happened.”
Alex growled, clenching his teeth so tightly he felt his jaw might snap.
“Something catastrophic must have happened. Otherwise, there’s no way the Federation would have lost Eldaris — let alone the entire Telorn system.”
Mira felt a chill run down her spine.
With the amount of resources the Federation spent on this system, sending dozens of prodigies from Capital Prime University alone, it was clear that something about this system was of grave importance to the Federation.
It was a strategic linchpin, and it was lost…
“Revenge…”
Alex muttered.
“Huh?”
Mira couldn’t quite hear him since she was so absorbed in her own thoughts.
“I said, we need to take revenge.”
This time, Mira shifted her gaze from the distance and looked directly at Alex’s face, who met her gaze with a neutral expression.
“But how? There are thousands of them, and that’s just that one encampment. There could be millions, perhaps billions inhabiting this system alone. And there’s just the two of us. How are we supposed to take on that many?”
Alex’s focus remained steady as he answered Mira.
“Power in numbers only matters when the cannon fodder are concerned. You saw the destruction I caused in my final attack against the King of Evermoor. Do you think the low rank grunts that make up the majority of the Red Demons in that encampment, and probably every other base they have in this system, could survive that kind of attack if it hit them?”
Mira’s lips parted as she considered Alex’s words.
‘He might be right…’
Against the ordinary grunts and even some of the stronger Red Demons in that camp, Alex’s destructive potential would wipe them all off the map.
She’d seen it first hand, and she could hazard a guess that if she wasn’t watching from the Void dimension at that time, then she might not have survived it as well…
“You might be right, but you’re not omnipotent.”
She pointed out.
“A few large scale attacks like that, and you’ll be out of energy. Sure, you could still wipe out potentially hundreds of thousands of them all at once if we come across a big city full of them, but there are probably hundreds or thousands of such cities across the entire system, and word of an attack on one of them would probably reach them all within minutes of it occurring…”
