Chapter 418: Pitiful
Alex remained standing where he was, letting his posture relax yet even with that he still radiated a cold, lethal energy.
He stared down at Threshal’s head, which now rested on the ground, almost poetically facing his own headless body with wide, confused eyes.
“Pitiful.”
Alex murmured, practically devoid of any emotion.
Around him, the Red Demons were frozen, eyes locked onto their fallen leader with disbelief, horror, confusion, and any other possible emotion that their race could feel.
For a moment, the only sound that rang out after Alex spoke was the faint crackling of the campfires nearby, and the soft rustle of the wind through the ruined buildings.
Then, like a dam breaking, they erupted into chaos.
Shouts of fury and confusion rose up from every corner as the Red Demons surged forward, expressions twisted in rage.
All sorts of weapons were drawn and the air in the camp suddenly became ablaze with activity and hostile energy as all sorts of talents and abilities were casted and sent out towards Alex at once.
But Alex didn’t flinch.
He stood his ground, completely unphased by the oncoming onslaught of thousands of Red Demons launching their attacks at him.
With Virtue’s Edge gleaming in his hand, he raised his gaze to meet the oncoming tide of demons.
“Your time here is over.”
He said softly, not bothered on whether they could hear him or not.
Whoosh!
But it was as if some of them were brought back to reality when they felt an invisible pressure wash over them, feeling their thoughts, movement and strength decrease by 10%.
It was the effect of Alex’s armour.
Sovereign’s Aura passed over each and every Red Demon in the camp, and all of them felt it affect their momentum immediately.
Some of them, like the seductive female Red Demon, seemed to be some of the smarter bunch of the lot and had already begun to start running away as fast as they could.
But others were of simple mind and continued their onslaught after just a few short moments to adjust.
“I’ll make sure to wipe every last one of your race from this universe.”
With those words, Alex surged forward.
He darted with a blur of motion and destruction as he dove headfirst into the horde of Red Demons.
Alex’s expression remained placid, gaze still unchanging even as the Red Demons barrelled towards him in a chaotic frenzy.
Everyone one of them weirdly reminded Alex of how the beasts both in and out of the Primordial Expanse were compelled by some voice to attack any human they came across…
But nevertheless, he pushed that minor thought aside.
They spat curses and shrieked in rage, faces contorted with raw hatred and fury.
Energy crackled around them — bolts of lightning, yellowy hot flames, and even some auras of shadowy death flickered to life as their attacks converged on him from every direction.
It would have been an overwhelming display of power.
If Alex even looked affected by it…

Not even the slightest twitch of his hand could be seen.
The chaos closed in.
He inhaled deeply, and a sudden stillness enveloped the base camp turned battlefield, as if reality itself had taken a pause.
For the briefest of moments, silence rained.
Whoosh!
And then it poured.
Alex swung Virtue’s Edge in a single, clean horizontal arc.
The blade’s edge glinted with a crimson red light as it cut through the air.
There was no explosion of sound, no ripple in the air, no thunderous roar or clash of metal.
Just… silence.
A silence so absolute that it felt like the whole world was holding its breath.
And then… a heartbeat later, it happened.
Fwoooom!
A colossal wave of Phoenix fire erupted from Virtue’s Edge, born from the arc of Alex’s swing.
The flames burst out in a brilliant explosion of incandescent, crimson red light, scorching the air itself as they blazed like nothing was in their path.
The fire wasn’t wild or chaotic.
It was controlled.
It moved with purpose, with precision — as if it understood Alex’s will.
The flames flew out in a perfect circle around him, expanding outward with rapid speed.
Those Red Demons closest to him were the first to be struck, and they didn’t even have the chance to scream before they were gone.
The moment the Phoenix Fire touched them, their bodies were incinerated, reduced to ash in the blink of an eye before even the ash itself was burned up.
The fiery wave carved through their ranks like a scythe through grass, slicing through flesh, bone, and even their weapons as if they were mere illusions.
In practically no time, the fire had blazed through the entire camp.
Those Demons who had been retreating, thinking they could escape and run away, looked back just in time to see the horror that was coming for them.
Their eyes couldn’t quite deliver their shock, but there was no mercy in the fire’s advance.
The Phoenix Fire swept over them all, annihilating each and every last one of them.
The sky turned a brilliant, unnatural hue of crimson for just a moment as the flames expanded to cover what remained of the whole city, making sure that any stragglers were also taken care of.
It consumed everything, the debris, the camp, and even reached as far off as the nearby forest where he and Mira were hiding until a few seconds ago.
It seemed as if the fire might stretch on forever, spreading out over the horizon.
But then, with a final surge of blinding brilliance, they curled inward, spiralling back toward Alex before dissipating into nothingness.
Then the silence returned.
Only there was nobody left to fill it.
The Red Demon camp, filled until just a moment ago with thousands upon thousands of soldiers, now stood empty.
In fact, there wasn’t even any evidence left that there was anything there at all.
The entire landscape within the surrounding 45 kilometres of Alex became a black, charred wasteland.
Every single Red Demon was gone.
