Chapter 429: Miracle
Alex had no idea if this would work, no idea if it was even possible for her to still be alive.
It felt impossible, illogical even — after all, they were in the vacuum of space, where no breath should be able to sustain either of them.
But he couldn’t give up.
“Come on…”
He muttered against her lips, but neither of them could hear it.
His eyes never left her face, scanning for any flicker of movement, any sign that she might be coming back to him.
For what felt like an eternity to Alex, nothing happened.
Mira remained still, her body still just as serene yet unnervingly lifeless.
The panic in Alex’s chest tightened like a vice.
He couldn’t let it end like this.
Not after everything they had been through.
He couldn’t let her give her own life for his…
Then…
Twitch!
It was faint, barely noticeable, but Alex saw it.
Her lips moved, ever so slightly.
He was sure he saw it right!
“Mira…”
He whispered again, ignoring the fact that none of his words would ever reach her ears in this place.
A sliver of hope started sparking within him.
Her eyelids fluttered, her long dark lashes quivering as her body fought to reclaim life.
Slowly, agonisingly slowly, her chest rose.
She took a breath!
She breathed!
The soft intake of air seemed so fragile, like the faintest whisper in the silent void, but to Alex, it was the loudest, most beautiful sound he had ever imagined hearing.
He let out a shaky breath, relief flooding his entire being.
“Mira… you’re alive…”
His voice cracked and his hands trembled as they hovered just inches from her skin.
Mira’s eyelids fluttered once more before they slowly, painfully opened.
Her deep, jet black eyes locked on to his, dazed and confused.

She blinked, her expression soft and disoriented, as if she had just woken up from a peaceful dream.
“Alex…?”
She let out a word, not audible at all, but Alex could read her lips clearly.
Hearing her utter his name nearly broke him.
He was so close to losing her… no — he DID lose her. Yet here she was, alive and speaking.
“Mira!”
Alex’s relief pounded out of him in an unsteady breath.
He gathered her gently into his arms, careful not to overwhelm her as he held her close.
He could feel her warmth returning fully, her body slowly regaining its strength, but he couldn’t shake the fear that she might slip away again.
Mira’s fingers weakly grasped onto the front of his shirt, resting her head against his chest.
She was weak, very weak, but alive.
“I… I thought you were gone…”
Alex said, barely able to keep his voice from cracking.
“You died. I saw you die…”
Mira blinked, confusion clouding her features as she tried to process his words.
“I… died?”
She echoed softly.
“Yes.”
Alex nodded, unable to keep his tears from falling from his eyes.
But they all instantly crystallised into ice thanks to the extremely low temperatures of the vacuum anyway…
“But you’re back. Somehow… you’re back.”
He wasn’t entirely sure how it had happened — the System’s cryptic message about Phoenix Rebirth most definitely had something to do with it — but none of that mattered right now.
All that mattered was that Mira was alive.
“I don’t understand…”
Mira murmured, trembling as she tried to recall what had happened.
“I can’t remember what happened no matter how hard I try! I know… something happened, but my memory is foggy whenever I get close!”
“You saved me.”
Alex said, tightening his grip on her.
“You gave your life for me…”
Mira’s brow furrowed, eyes filled with concern as she looked up at him.
“But… How am I here then? What… what happened?”
Alex opened his mouth to respond, but before he could say anything, a sudden realisation hit him.
The Red Demon headquarters on Eldaris…
They were still in the area.
And now that he finally had Mira back in his arms, alive, his mind had eased enough to focus on other things.
Such as the fact that while they had survived the destruction of Eldaris, that was only one out of many problems they had.
And now that the Red Demons had gone so far as to kill the one he loved the most…
Alex wouldn’t stop at anything until he saw every last one of them dead!

Principal Farnes sat behind his grand desk, the dim lighting of his private office providing a nice and quiet environment for him to think.
The weight of responsibility hung heavy on his shoulders, but he carried it well, as he always had.
With over a century of experience in the field, he could hardly be cracked.
But recent events had left him uneasy.
Suddenly, a rapid, urgent knock on the door shattered his silence and brought him out of thought.
“Enter.”
He called out.
The door slid open, and a young female federal officer in a crisp uniform stepped in.
Her face was twisted in confusion and concern.
“Sir,” the officer said, standing at attention. “We have a situation thats… a little unusual.”
“It’s about the Telorn system.”
At the mention of the Telorn system, Farne’s brows furrowed in equal confusion to the young officer.
Why would there be a situation in that system?
The officer approached and handed a datapad to Farnes, who took it without a word.
As he scanned the report though, his face quickly became even more confused.
“Eldaris… destroyed?”
‘Why does that name sound so familiar?’
He muttered, utterly bemused by this sudden report.
“But why destroy a planet in a system they already control?”
Farnes spoke his thoughts aloud, echoing that of the young officer’s and everyone else who had seen the report.
“It doesn’t add up. The Red Demons are brutal, but they’re not wasteful. They take, they corrupt, but they don’t obliterate their own resources unless there’s something they fear.”
He leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples as his mind whirred through the possibilities.
“Eldaris…”
He repeated, just wondering why the Red Demons would ever do such a confusing thing.
But his heart skipped a beat when a realisation hit him.
No wonder the name felt so familiar when he first read it!
‘That’s the planet Alex and Mira went missing on!’
