Chapter 430: Revenge
Alex floated in the endless, silent expanse of space, his arms still wrapped around Mira. The dark void surrounding them where Eldaris once stood felt suffocating despite the lack of air.
He could feel her shallow breathing against his chest, the warmth of her body gradually beginning to return.
She was alive, but barely.
His eyes darted around the debris field that was once Eldaris—a planet reduced to dust and fragments, drifting aimlessly. The Red Demons had left no trace of life. And now, they were still in danger. The thought hit him like a cold blast of reality. Floating in space with no protection, out in the open for any prying eyes to see… they were living on borrowed time.
Alex grimaced, his jaw tightening with the growing sense of urgency. He had to get Mira out of there. His mind raced, and then, like a flash, he remembered.
King.
His ship.
It had been with him ever since Admiral Olgierd gifted it to him, and it had served him very well in that time.
But now was the time it would really show its worth to him.
With a quick motion, Alex willed for his ship to come out of his spatial storage.
There it was — King — his trusted vessel, appearing just a few metres away from them.
The airlock opened automatically, welcoming its master back on board.
“Mira, hold on.”
Alex whispered against her hair, knowing she couldn’t hear.
He tightened his grip around her, using what little strength he had left to guide them towards the ship.
His boots made contact with the sleek metallic floor, and he pulled himself and Mira inside.
The airlock hissed closed behind them, and Alex immediately punched the buttons to engage the atmosphere.
Oxygen flooded the chamber, and the sudden influx of breathable air caused him to take in a deep, relieving breath as he sank down to the ground, Mira still in his arms.
He could hear the soft hum of the life support systems coming back online, and he watched as Mira stirred slightly, brimming back to life gradually.
Her eyes fluttered open once more.
“Alex…”
She murmured weakly in a hoarse voice.
Hearing her speak for the first time after she had been reanimated made Alex realise just how close he still was to losing her.
She was alive, yes, but her body was frail enough right now for even an unawakened to deal significant damage to her.
“You’re safe now.”
He reassured her, gently setting her down on one of the cushioned seats in the living area of the ship.
“Rest. I’ll take care of everything.”
But as Alex turned to the cockpit, his face darkened. Safe? No, they weren’t safe. Not until every last Red Demon in this system was obliterated, not until there was nothing left of the ones who had nearly taken Mira from him. His chest tightened with a burning rage. They had crossed a line—a line that could never be uncrossed.
He moved swiftly into the pilot’s seat, his fingers flying over the controls as he prepared the ship for launch. The thrusters hummed with power, and the engines roared to life. Alex’s eyes narrowed as he brought up the system map of Telorn on the display. The Red Demons were still here, scattered across various strongholds throughout the system.
For the first time he realised just how many of them there were in this system alone.

Billions, at bare minimum.
He looked at the four planets that occupied the system on the ship’s maps, and quietly erased the data pertaining to Eldaris as it hadn’t quite registered with the ship’s navigational systems yet that it had been destroyed.
Now, he looked at the three remaining planets.
Gorath, the desert planet with its unforgiving climate.
Alex could see over a billion little red dots on that planet alone that his ship had picked up in its scans.
The Red Demons seemed to be a resilient race, able to survive in even the harshest of climates.
But most of them were situated in underground bunkers, so Alex designated this planet as one that he would destroy to rid them, if necessary…
Aetheria, the planet of towering mountains and winding valleys.
This was the one planet that would probably survive Alex’s onslaught against the Red Demons, as most of the fights took place in the sky when the war was still raging in this system.
And from his ship’s scans, he found that this Aetheria was the planet with the smallest population of Red Demons occupying it, around 100 million in total, all bunched up in about four clusters of 25 million each in what Alex assumed to be mega cities in the areas where the elevation wasn’t so extreme.
This one wouldn’t be such a problem for him to take out.
Finally though, there was Nerathis, the most Earth-like planet in the system.
That would be the trickiest one to deal with, since his ship’s scans couldn’t penetrate the oceans, so he couldn’t determine whether there were more Red Demons hunkered down under there or if the 1.5 billion population figure he was looking at was the real thing.
But even so, even if there was still 1 Red Demon standing on the planet after he dealt his destruction down, and he couldn’t find them, he would unleash his fury onto the planet until they were dead.
The whole system was devoid of humans anyway, and right now Alex could care less about any consequences the Federation might have for destroying habitable planets.
But aside from this, there were still over 2 billion Red Demons scattered throughout the star system on ships, space stations and the like, and from what Alex could see, a mega ship where over a billion Red Demons occupied alone.
He clenched his jaw as he set a course toward the nearest cluster of targets, on Gorath.
If the Red Demons thought they could get away with what they had done, they were dead wrong.
Every last one of them would pay.
