Chapter 439: Do I look dead to you?
Alex scoffed, shaking his head.
“Yeah well, I don’t trust some aliens in shiny robes to fix our problems. We’ll win this war on our own. I’m not going to sell my future just because they wave some magic cure to all of our problems in front of us.”
His words hung in the air, stubborn despite finding out the consequences of his refusal.
Major General Lyndal stepped forward, and spoke in a low and strained voice.
“You think you’re so righteous, don’t you? You think you can just walk away from this without a second thought? You’ve doomed us all, Alex. You don’t realise how badly this war is going for us!”
It was obvious she couldn’t contain her anger.
Alex didn’t flinch.
“Yeah well, we’ve been ‘doomed’ countless times before in our history. And look at us now, does it look like we’re any worse off than we were back then?”
In the past, Alex would have hesitated in front of all these lofty figures.
Their status and strength were worth respecting after all.
But now, he has effectively grown a pair.
Being around Rothwind enough made him realise that these A tier and S tier beings were just normal people who had gained power when it came down to it.
Major General Lyndal stood up from her seat and nodded.
“I understand. Good luck out there, Alex. You’ll need it.”
“Are you threatening me?”
Alex stared at her through the projection.
Major General Lyndal was stunned.
When was the last time a lowly C tier spoke to her like this…?
But considering the company she was keeping, Major General Lyndal decided to suppress her anger for now.
“I was just offering you a piece of friendly advice, since it looks like you are in the Telorn system. If I remember correctly, that place is currently under Red Demon occupation, isn’t that right?”
Lyndal had a slight smug smirk that she failed to conceal when she revealed this, like she was basically confirming that Alex was fucked in his situation.
After all, which C tier could survive and escape from billions upon billions of Red Demons all targeting them?
“I see.”
Alex nodded, not caring about Major General Lyndal’s smugness at all.
“Let me ask you this, Lyndal.”
Alex paused, not bothering to address her by her title anymore.
She had lost that right in Alex’s mind.
“Do you know of Eldaris’ destruction?”
His question was a simple one, as the Federation surely kept an eye on all Red Demon territories to find any vulnerabilities and intelligence, so they would most likely know about it.
“Yes I do.”

She answered straightforwardly.
“Well, do I look dead to you?”
That was it.
Alex walked away from the projection after saying that, and it disappeared automatically after he did so.
He had effectively hung up on everyone in the round table room.
“…”
Major General Lyndal was speechless, while Principal Farnes did his best to hide his smirk.
‘That’s right… Eldaris was the planet he and Mira were reported missing on…’
As an A tier, Lyndal had the capacity to understand what Alex was getting at without much thought.
And she knew what he meant by saying that final piece.
‘I underestimated him…’
Alex revealed through that one statement that he was clearly strong enough to escape the Telorn system if he even wanted to.
But even so, she would never have guessed his real plans for the Telorn system…

Alex really rejected Val’s offer?
The S tiers in the room all looked at each other with incredulity, not knowing how to react.
It was too late now to go and beg Val and the others to come back, their ship had already left through another wormhole they opened up.
“I understand why he couldn’t bear to leave his people.”
Lyndal spoke to another S tier sat at the table.
“He didn’t seize the opportunity that was handed to him.”
Another S tier chimed in.
Principal Farnes sighed when he saw this.
He himself had always been a firm believer in a collective community and culture for the human race
“A punk from a backwards colony with no family to speak of…”
A S tier stared at the ceiling of the room like he was looking at Alex himself.
“Does he really think he had a choice in this matter?”
Farne’s expression changed as he looked around at the people in the room like they were stupid.
“Do you all really have shit for brains!? Of course he had a choice, the Overseers said it themselves! Do you really not get that? No matter what we said to try and convince, persuade or pressure him, it would amount to nothing in the end!”
Farnes tapped his finger on the table.
“There was nothing we could do…”
Whoosh!
One by one the S tiers teleported away, disembarking to wherever they pleased as they couldn’t stand being in that room anymore.
However, unbeknownst to everyone in that room, not all was as it seemed…

Buzz!
One of the S tiers who was just present in that meeting tapped a projection.
A red skinned man drinking what appeared to be some sort of alcohol appeared on the other end of the projection.
He had scales all across his body, and deep crimson eyes.
He was clearly a Red Demon.
“Donald! My friend, aren’t you busy with your affairs over in the human world? What made you want to call me?”
The Red Demon spoke to the S tier, Donald in quite a friendly tone.
Not something one would expect from an interaction between two races at war with each other…
“No time to talk. I have an urgent report.”
Donald rushed his speech.
“Tell me, have you ever heard of some group called the Collective, and the Overseers?”
Smash!
The sounds of glass breaking could be heard on the other side of the call.
The Red Demon had dropped his alcohol on the ground.
‘I’ll take that as a yes…’
Donald thought to himself.
