Chapter 441: Potential
“I was right there when it happened. Alex didn’t even hesitate, just said something along the lines of, ‘I don’t trust beings who show up in fancy robes and start making demands.’ You could have heard a pin drop in that room!”
The Red Demon’s mind raced.
If they had approached a human prodigy, they must have seen something in him that went beyond normal potential. And if Alex had the strength to defy them… there was no telling what came next.
“You fool.”
The Red Demon finally spat.
“Do you have any idea what you’re saying? If the Overseers made contact with Alex, then he’s no ordinary human. They saw something in him—something dangerous.”
Donald shrugged, his carefree demeanour barely masking the tension rising in the air.
“That’s not my problem. The way I see it, the Overseers can do what they want. Alex made his choice, and it’s his fight now.”
The Red Demon was silent for a moment, calculating.
His entire race was already entangled in a brutal, long-standing war with the humans. The arrival of the Overseers had always been a distant, abstract threat—until now…
The Red Demon’s clawed fingers tapped rhythmically against the arm of his chair, his eyes narrowing as he set aside thoughts of the Overseers for the time being.
The larger cosmic game they were playing would have to wait.
His focus now turned to Alex—the human prodigy who had drawn the attention of these powerful entities.
The very mention that the Overseers had labelled him as someone with ‘potential’ sent a chill down the Red Demon’s spine.
He was silent for a long moment, staring into the empty space where Donald’s projection had been.
His thoughts swirled like a storm, filled with scenarios that painted Alex as far more than just a rising talent.
If the Overseers saw potential in Alex, it wasn’t some meaningless compliment. They never wasted words. When they acknowledged someone’s ability, it meant they had foreseen a future where that individual could rise to terrifying heights.
And if Alex had enough strength or will to refuse them, that could only mean one thing—he was already walking the path to becoming an S-tier Ancient class!
The Red Demon’s expression darkened at the thought. A human, reaching such levels of power, was unacceptable. In the past, any talk of a human becoming an Ancient would have been laughable, a mere delusion whispered among their kind.
But now, with the Overseers’ stamp of approval, the idea suddenly became a very real threat.
He stood up from his seat, his towering figure illuminated by the dim red glow of his chamber. His clawed hand clenched into a fist.
“Alex…”
He muttered the name under his breath, as if trying to taste the danger that came with it.
“If the Overseers believe in you, then you are more dangerous than I could have ever imagined.”
The Red Demon wasn’t the type to fear easily, but this? This was different. Any other S-tier human—he would have dismissed them, maybe crushed them if they got too close to the conflict.
But Alex wasn’t like the others.
The fact that he’d attracted the attention of beings as ancient as the Overseers meant his potential was far greater than anyone realised. A potential that could shift the balance of power between their races.
A low growl escaped his lips.
“I cannot allow this.”
He started pacing the room, his mind moving faster with each step.

“I’ve already seen how one prodigy can change the course of history. If Alex continues to grow, he could turn this entire war in favour of the humans.”
He sneered, the idea filling him with both anger and unease.
This was no longer just about human arrogance or some misguided sense of equality. This was a strategic threat—one that had to be dealt with before it grew out of control.
And the Overseers had made it clear: Alex had the potential to become something more, something dangerous.
“If he becomes an Ancient…”
The Red Demon stopped his pacing, staring into the dark, his mind racing with the implications.
“It would mean the rise of a new power—a human with the strength to rival the Elders of our kind.”
The thought of a human wielding such power was unbearable. It went against everything the Red Demons believed, their superiority, their dominion over the lesser species.
If Alex reached that level, the human race would have the ability to resist the Red Demon’s advance.
He turned sharply toward his communication panel, activating it with a swipe of his clawed hand.
“Get me details on this Alex!”
He barked to one of his subordinates on the other end.
“Everything we have on him. His movements, his strengths, his weaknesses. I want a report within the hour.”
The voice on the other side stammered.
“Y-yes, my lord! Right away!”
The Red Demon severed the connection, his mind already turning over possibilities. He couldn’t take any chances with Alex.
Not now. Not after what Donald had revealed.
If the Overseers saw him as someone with potential, then the Red Demons needed to see him as a target—a threat that needed to be neutralised before he could fully realise that potential.
And unlike Donald, the Red Demon had no intention of sitting back and watching.
“If you’re the key to ending this war, Alex, then I’ll make sure you’re taken out of the equation before you can play your part.”
He wasn’t a fool. He knew this would require more than brute strength. Alex had already refused the Overseers, which meant he wasn’t easily swayed or intimidated.
But everyone had a weakness. It was just a matter of finding it. The Red Demon would have to be patient, methodical.
A slow, dark smile spread across his face as he considered his next steps.
If Alex had even a fraction of the potential the Overseers claimed, then his power would make him a target for more than just the Red Demons.
There would be others—those who feared or envied such potential.
The Red Demon just had to ensure that he wasn’t the one to make the first move. Let someone else try to break the prodigy.
With that, he ended the call with Donald, not wanting to speak another word to the snide human.
