Chapter 446: Retrieval
The barren landscape stretched endlessly before Alex as he set off across the desolate planet, his pace relentless despite the heat beating down on him.
The sun, harsh and merciless, cast a glare across the cracked earth, turning the horizon into a shimmering blur.
The planet’s voice, no longer the broken, anguished cry it had been earlier, pulsed softly in the back of his mind.
“Five locations.”
Alex muttered to himself, pushing through the oppressive desert heat. His resolve was firm, his purpose clear.
He had made a promise to the planet, and now it was time to make good on it.
It didn’t take long before Alex encountered the first group of Red Demons, a small patrol scouring the dunes for any signs of intrusion.
They hadn’t noticed him yet, and Alex seized the opportunity. His grip tightened around Virtue’s Edge, his sword glowing faintly with the power it had absorbed over the years.
Without hesitation, Alex lunged forward, closing the distance in seconds.
His blade whistled through the air, cutting down the first Demon before the others could even react.
Blood sprayed across the sand as the demon’s body collapsed, lifeless.
The remaining Red Demons barely had time to raise their weapons before Alex was upon them.
His sword danced in quick, fluid motions—slashes, thrusts, and parries—all a deadly symphony that left no room for error.
The Demons screeched in fury, but they couldn’t match his speed or skill.
One by one, they fell, their twisted bodies crumpling in the sand as Alex moved through them with lethal precision.
When the last of the patrol hit the ground, Alex stood over their bodies, his chest heaving with exertion.
He wiped the sweat from his brow, glancing at the twisted, deformed faces of the fallen Red Demons.
These were the ones responsible for killing billions of humans.
“Monsters.”
He muttered, his voice a low growl.
“You got what you deserved.”
He didn’t linger long.
There was still work to be done, and this was only the beginning. His eyes scanned the horizon, focusing on the nearest location the planet had shown him. It was a long trek across the desert, but Alex knew he had no choice.
Time was running out, and the longer the Celestial Orbs remained hidden, the more vulnerable the planet remained.
As he marched through the desert, his thoughts turned inward.
The enormity of what he was doing wasn’t lost on him. He was essentially working to repair the soul of an entire planet—a sentient, living being that had been broken and torn apart by the greed of the Red Demons.
It wasn’t something he had ever imagined doing, but here he was, fighting not for himself, but for something far bigger, literally!
And yet, the task felt strangely personal.
The planet had been wounded, and in some way, Alex could relate.
He had lost so much in his life, had seen so much destruction and chaos. Maybe that was why he was so determined to set this right—because he knew what it was like to feel broken.

Hours passed as Alex crossed the arid landscape.
The second location was nestled deep within a series of rocky formations, where the Red Demons had set up a crude base.
As he approached, Alex could see their dark forms moving among the rocks, unaware of his presence. His eyes narrowed.
This wasn’t going to be easy—there were more of them here, and the terrain would make for a difficult fight.
It wasn’t like Alex would lose to them in terms of power — no, it was more that he didn’t know the consequences if one of them hurriedly absorbed a celestial orb before he could get to them!
Would the planet forever be missing a piece of itself?
He didn’t know.
But Alex wasn’t about to back down.
Moving swiftly, he climbed up the rocky outcropping, staying low to avoid detection.
From his vantage point, he could see the Demons had stockpiled more of the Celestial Orbs, keeping them hidden within a cave at the base of the rocks.
The sight of the glowing orbs sent a surge of determination through Alex.
He needed to retrieve those fragments before the Demons had a chance to use them.
With a sharp exhale, he leaped down from the rocks, landing silently behind the first group of Red Demons.
His sword was out in an instant, slicing through the first two with a single, powerful stroke.
Blood splattered against the rocks as the Demons collapsed, their comrades turning in shock to see their attacker.
But Alex was already moving.
He spun, driving his blade into the chest of another Demon, its eyes wide with shock as it crumpled to the ground.
The remaining Demons snarled, rushing at him with their crude weapons, but Alex was ready.
His movements were fluid, controlled. Every strike was calculated, every dodge perfectly timed.
The fight was brutal, but it didn’t last long. Soon, the last Demon lay dead at Alex’s feet, and the cave was clear.
Panting slightly, Alex stepped over the bodies, making his way to the stockpile of Celestial Orbs hidden in the cave.
There were fewer orbs here than at the first site, but each one radiated the same powerful energy. He carefully gathered them, feeling the faint pulse of the planet’s soul within each one.
“Another piece restored.” He said under his breath, securing the orbs before heading out of the cave.
The next locations blurred together as the day wore on.
Each site was heavily guarded by more Red Demons, and each time, Alex faced them head-on, cutting through their ranks with ruthless efficiency.
He stormed through their encampments, leaving behind trails of destruction, and each time, he retrieved more fragments of the planet’s soul.
The third location was buried beneath a series of jagged cliffs, where the Demons had dug deep into the ground to hide the orbs.
The battle here was fierce, the narrow cliffs making it difficult to manoeuvre, but Alex fought with a ferocity that surprised even himself.
He cut down the Demons with ruthless precision, their bodies toppling into the chasms below.
The fourth site was located within a cavern deep in the desert. The Demons had holed up inside, thinking the darkness would protect them.
But Alex stormed in, his sword glowing in the dim light as he tore through their defences.
They stood no chance against him.
And finally, the fifth location—the last stronghold of the Red Demons on Gorath.
