Chapter 447: Thank you
By the time Alex arrived, the sun was beginning to set, casting a fiery glow across the desert. The Demons here were the most organised, the most dangerous, but Alex didn’t hesitate.
He charged into their ranks, his sword cutting through them like a storm.
They fought back with a desperation born of fear, but it wasn’t enough.
Alex was unstoppable. His blade flashed in the dying light, slicing through armour and flesh, leaving no Demon standing.
When the final Red Demon fell, Alex stood over its body, panting heavily. His arms ached, his muscles burning from the day’s battles, but he didn’t stop.
He had one last task to complete.
He made his way to the final cache of Celestial Orbs, hidden beneath a pile of rubble at the back of the Demon stronghold.
Carefully, he gathered the orbs, feeling the planet’s energy pulsing through them.
With the last of the fragments in his possession, Alex turned his gaze toward the horizon.
The day had been long, filled with blood and sweat, but he had done it. He had retrieved every last piece of the planet’s soul.
The trek back across the desert was gruelling. Alex’s body screamed for rest, but he pushed through the exhaustion.
He couldn’t stop now—not when he was so close to completing his mission.
When he finally reached the black sphere once more, the planet’s voice greeted him, a soft, grateful hum in the back of his mind.
Without hesitation, Alex placed the remaining Celestial Orbs at the base of the sphere, watching as the planet absorbed them one by one.
As the final orb was absorbed, the black sphere pulsed with a deep, resonant glow, its energy now whole and complete.
The planet’s voice, no longer filled with pain or confusion, echoed gently in his mind.
“Thank you.”
Alex stood there, staring at the now serene black sphere, its once ominous glow now replaced with a peaceful hum.
The planet’s voice in his mind had quieted, its pain alleviated, but the silence felt almost… unsettling.
He sheathed his sword and exhaled deeply. For the first time since landing on this forsaken desert world, Alex allowed himself to think about something other than survival or battle.
The immediate danger was gone, the Red Demons were eradicated, and the planet’s soul had been restored.
But as he gazed at the vast, empty horizon, he felt an odd sense of unfinished business.
“By the way…”
Alex broke the silence, his voice a little hoarse from the desert winds.
“What do you even do? Like, what’s your purpose? Having a whole planet as your body seems kinda cool at first, but after a few billion years… doesn’t it get boring?”
It was a natural question, though even Alex wasn’t sure why he asked it.
Perhaps it was curiosity, or maybe he was simply trying to make sense of this massive, conscious entity he had just saved.
For a moment, there was no response.
The soft hum of the planet’s energy echoed faintly in his mind, and Alex wondered if he’d overstepped some kind of boundary.
But then, the planet spoke.

“I… do not know my own purpose.”
The admission hung in the air, weighty and contemplative.
Alex frowned, glancing at the black sphere.
“You don’t know?”
He repeated.
The planet’s voice was soft, almost reflective.
“No. Like you, I came into existence without guidance. I awoke one day, aware of myself, of my surroundings, but with no understanding of why. For eons, I have existed, conscious of my form, my land, my energy… and yet, I do not know what it is I am meant to do.”
Alex blinked, surprised at the honesty.
There was something almost tragic about a being of such scale and power not knowing its own purpose.
The planet continued.
“But one thing I have come to understand is that very, very few planets develop a consciousness as I have. Most are just… matter. Lifeless. Without thought. They exist, but they are not alive as I am.”
Alex mulled this over, thinking back to the Red Demons and their obsessive search for the Celestial Orbs.
He glanced at the now calm black sphere.
“And that’s why the Red Demons were after your Celestial Orbs, right? They knew you were special.”
“Indeed.”
The planet replied.
“The Demons, vile as they are, understood that such orbs—pieces of my very soul—were exceedingly rare. They wanted my essence not because they needed it to live, but because it was valuable beyond measure. There are not many like me. And that makes me a target.”
Alex shifted his weight, looking at the black sphere thoughtfully.
The enormity of what the planet was saying wasn’t lost on him.
A conscious, living planet—something that could control its own destiny, but was still unaware of its own purpose.
It was strange. Sad, even.
“So you’ve just been sitting here… alone, for who knows how long?”
Alex asked.
“You didn’t try to, I don’t know, reach out to anyone? Other planets? Stars? Anything?”
The planet was silent for a moment, the gentle hum still vibrating faintly in the background.
Then, it spoke again, and its tone was softer, almost melancholic.
“I cannot leave my form. I am bound to this body, this world. For as long as I have existed, I have watched over the life that once inhabited me. I guided them, nurtured them, but they never knew I was here. I was simply their world—their home. They perished with the arrival of the Red Demons. And now… I am alone.”
The atmosphere felt heavy with the planet’s sadness. Alex could almost feel the weight of its isolation, stretching back through the eons. He frowned, not sure how to respond.
“Well… that’s not fair.”
He muttered, crossing his arms.
“You’re powerful. Sentient. You’ve got a whole planet as your body, and yet…”
He trailed off, unsure of what to say. There was no manual for how to comfort a planet.
The planet’s voice interrupted his thoughts.
“Alex, place your hand on my soul.”
Alex blinked in surprise, looking at the black sphere.
“What?”
