Chapter 478: Taunting
The moment the duo passed through the outer perimeter set up by the gang, the Iron Vultures discovered them and sent their messages to Vira and Corax.
The two leaders urgently convened on the balcony of one of the taller buildings of the city.
Vira pointed at the two figures, who were clearly not intending to cover their tracks or act stealthily at all, and introduced them to the other high ranking Iron Vulture’s standing nearby.
There were 12 C+ rank Mutant classes in total that the gang had at their disposal, each and every one of them being a vital resource to the gang as a whole.
“These are the two most dangerous bounties available in this galaxy right now. Alex in particular is the most dangerous. Under no circumstance should you try and go after him alone. All 12 of you should either go in together, or not at all. Mira, on the other hand, is like the underrated side character. She is powerful, but not as much as Alex. If possible 6 or more of you will be needed to take her down.”
“Can we even block their attacks?”
One of the twelve members asked.
“If the rumours are true, then no. If you’re so worried about that, then just don’t get hit.”
Vira replied, not even flinching a bit or showing any emotion when she uttered it.
However, at that moment, completely out of Vira and Corax’s expectations, a message was sent.
Or shouted… to be specific.
“Hello, Iron Vultures!”
Alex’s voice echoed across the entire area, spreading throughout several dozen kilometres with the fluency of his voice remaining fluid wherever it went.
Even the farthest members of the gang could hear him like he was right next to them.
“I’ll give you 20 minutes to give yourself up. If you take longer than 20 minutes… well, I guess that means you aren’t willing to comply.”
“I hope your carefully planned and executed strategies can defend against what we have prepared for you. But from what I’m feeling, out of all 1251 of you, not a single one of you can land a scratch on us. Not even you, Vira, Corax.”
Alex’s eyes flashed with a cold arrogance.
“You still have 19 minutes 12 seconds to decide!”
A countdown subconsciously started in most of the gang member’s minds, and some even went as far as starting one on their communicators!
They looked at each other with shock and disbelief.
“Can we actually not defend against them like he said?”
“1251… He knows exactly how many of us there are…!”
“Do we have what it takes to kill them?”
“I heard they took down Leader Garmis already…”
“We can’t agree! Our reputation will be soured, and we can’t afford to have this burden us so early in our development!”
“Agreed! A first will lead to many more. We need to make an example of them!”
Mutterings started all across the entire gang, and the opinions different greatly.
There was no majority, instead an even split between people who wanted to accept Alex’s offer, and those who wanted to push to fight him even harder after he blatantly acted so arrogant.

“That should rile them out for a bit.”

Alex spoke to Mira, feeling a little bit chuffed at his spur of the moment idea.
The Iron Vultures already knew they were there, so there wasn’t any point in acting oblivious!
So, why not use this to their advantage instead?
If Alex could get them to start internal strife before anything even started, then half the job was already done for them!
They would just be the clean up crew to sweep up and take everything when it was all over.
Well, that and kill the higher ranked Awakened among their bunch, since they were guaranteed to be fine if something happened.
And just as he had expected, his plan worked.
There wasn’t really much stress on Alex and Mira’s side on whether it worked or not.
The Iron Vultures, like most other cosmic criminals, were a ragtag crew brought together for one goal — greed.
Something like that didn’t really set a good precedent for creating a ‘loyal’ organisation.
When the first shot was fired, all hell let loose.
The gang members started going at each other, with the side who vehemently voted to attack Alex and Mira right away becoming furious with those who preferred surrender.
This was especially the case when one of them started walking towards Alex and Mira with his hands raised.
That was the straw that broke the camel’s back for the other side.
“Cowards!”
Someone shouted, and in an instant, weapons were drawn — and used.
Blades and bullets tore through the ranks, shouts echoing as members turned on one another, driven by rage and pride.
Those leaning toward surrender quickly found themselves outnumbered and under fire, scrambling for cover.
The skirmish spread like wildfire across the compound.
From their vantage point on the balcony, Vira and Corax watched with a mixture of embarrassment and fury.
Vira clenched her fists, gritting her teeth as she turned to Corax.
“This is exactly what Alex wanted! He’s playing us like puppets!”
Corax’s jaw was tight, his knuckles white as he gripped the railing.
“We can still salvage this. We’ve got twelve Mutant class C+ ranks! And they’re disciplined enough to follow orders. We just need to direct their firepower and shut down this rebellion before Alex and Mira make a move.”
Corax signalled to the twelve C+ ranked mutants, who were assembled nearby, their eyes flicking between their warring allies and their leaders for direction.
“Enough of this.”
Corax ordered.
“Take control of this mess — suppress any talk of surrender, and if you see anyone walking toward them, consider them traitors and eliminate them on sight.”
The twelve members nodded their heads, though they were hiding their own uncertainties from Corax and Vira.
‘It will take all 12 of us to take just one of them on…?’
‘Are they just offering us up as bait to wear them down?’
