Chapter 479: Vira
The twelve Mutant-class fighters descended from the balcony, fanning out to restore order, but unease rippled through their ranks.
The directive from Corax was clear, but the underlying truth gnawed at each of them — they were being thrown into a fight that was likely unwinnable.
Their instincts screamed that Alex and Mira were beyond their abilities, yet orders were orders.
“Cowards, turncoats — take them down!”
One of the twelve barked, rallying the gang members still willing to fight.
They began suppressing any signs of surrender, their guns and powers lighting up the compound like a war zone.
But while some Iron Vultures re-joined the fight, others were fleeing the perimeter, no longer willing to face the wrath of Alex and Mira.
On the outskirts, Alex and Mira observed the chaos with expressions of cold amusement.
Mira chuckled, glancing at Alex.
“Looks like the stragglers are splitting off. Should we thin the herd?”
Alex nodded, a gleam of anticipation in his eyes.
“Let’s do it. Take out the ones trying to regroup and break their defences piece by piece. They’re sitting ducks.”
With silent precision, they melted into the shadows, moving through the compound like spectres.
One by one, they targeted isolated Iron Vultures, each gang member falling with barely a sound.
Those who tried to call for backup found only static on their communicators — Alex and Mira’s approach had cut through their ranks so quickly that their allies were either dead or hiding.
Meanwhile, up on the balcony, Vira and Corax watched with horror as their best fighters struggled to contain the chaos.
The twelve C+ mutants were still standing, but they’d been forced to scatter, with each one cornered by a splintered section of gang members who had started turning on each other.
Corax’s hands clenched around his weapon as he grated his teeth.
“This isn’t working, Vira. We’re losing control.”
Vira didn’t reply, her gaze fixed on the chaos below.
But in her silence, her mind raced through every backup plan she had prepared — and came up empty.
The Iron Vultures’ greatest strength was their numbers, their willingness to overwhelm an opponent by sheer force.
Yet here, facing Alex and Mira’s calculated chaos, their numbers were turning against them.
Vira keyed her communicator, calling out to the remaining fighters.
“Fall back to the inner stronghold! All remaining forces, regroup at Sector A-12. Lockdown sequence initiated.”
The twelve C+ mutants and the remnants of the Iron Vultures retreated, forced to abandon any notion of a controlled response.
One by one, they filed toward the heart of the compound, a fortified position that Vira and Corax had reserved as their final stand.
As the last of their forces regrouped, they sealed the doors, setting the lockdown in motion.
Alex and Mira watched the compound’s defences reinforce themselves, amused by the futile gesture.
They knew the gang’s inner stronghold would be well protected, fortified to the extreme with all sorts of exotic materials.

But it was a delay, not a deterrent.
“Shall we knock on their door?”
Mira asked with a smirk, gripping her weapon tightly.
Alex’s gaze was steely, his confidence unshaken.
“We’ve given them plenty of chances. Time to finish this.”
Inside the stronghold, Vira paced, her mind churning through every scenario.
She glanced at Corax, who was checking the perimeter monitors.
His expression was grim as the displays showed the faint outline of Alex and Mira approaching, undeterred by their defences.
“We’re running out of options, Vira.”
Corax said quietly, a hint of fear flickering in his eyes.
“Do you have any backup plan left?”
Vira’s gaze hardened as she squared her shoulders.
“They’re coming for us. Then let’s make sure we greet them properly.”
Corax nodded, setting his jaw.
The Iron Vultures braced themselves, gripping their weapons as the heavy footfalls grew louder, echoing through the compound’s cold halls.
With one final glance at her remaining fighters, Vira shouted.
“Prepare to open fire. On my mark!”
As the first door crumpled under Alex’s boot, the Iron Vultures’ weapons blazed in unison, filling the air with a roar of energy and blasts aimed at the two figures now striding through the smoke.
But Alex and Mira moved like lightning, weaving through the storm of attacks with precision, closing the distance between themselves and the defenders.
One of the C+ mutants lunged forward, his arms wreathed in flame as he swung a massive blade at Alex.
But before he could land a single blow, Alex sidestepped, grabbing the mutant’s arm and twisting.
In one fluid motion, Alex disarmed him and threw him across the room, where he crashed into a wall, slumping to the ground, dead.
Mira, meanwhile, faced two of the C+ mutants who attacked in tandem, one cloaked in shadow energy and the other cloaked in frost.
They unleashed their powers at her, casting a deadly array of freezing shadows across the battlefield.
Mira only smirked, gathering energy around her blade before slicing through the shadows, sending jagged waves of her own energy back at them.
The frost-wielder barely managed to deflect it, but his partner wasn’t quick enough, and the energy blast sent him hurtling backward, groaning in pain.
The remaining gang members and mutant classes attacked relentlessly, but Alex and Mira’s finesse and mastery of their powers dominated the battlefield.
Alex deflected blows with sheer brute force, disabling each attacker before they could land a strike.
Mira moved with equal finesse, dismantling her opponents with swift, lethal precision, using their momentum against them.
On the balcony, Vira’s eyes widened as her soldiers fell one by one against the unyielding assault.
She could feel the resolve of her forces waning with every fallen ally.
Turning to Corax, she shouted.
“We need to step in now! They’re wiping us out!”
Corax clenched his jaw, his face set in grim expression.
“Then it’s us or them.”
He grabbed his own blade, motioning for Vira to follow.
Together, they leapt down from the balcony, landing on the main floor as the Iron Vultures fell back around them.
Their entry shifted the tides briefly, as the gang members took heart at seeing their leaders step into the fray.
Vira summoned a shimmering barrier of pure force, blocking Alex and Mira’s approach, while Corax brandished his sword, flames flickering along its edge.
‘Why does every mob character have to wield fire for some reason?’
Alex thought momentarily, but left it at that.
Corax unleashed a torrent of fire, its scorching heat sweeping toward Alex and Mira.
Alex stood in front of the flames, unmoving.
Booom!
But things changed very quickly when he activated his own flames.
The moment the Phoenix Flames roared to life, it was like a switch was flipped.
The flames Corax had sent out to assault Alex were like peanuts in front of Alex’s Phoenix Flames.
They were immediately absorbed into Alex’s flames, like a tiny spark being put out.
In the next moment, Alex sent his Phoenix Flames rushing towards Corax and Vira with full force.
Booom!
Another explosion rang out.
But surprisingly, when the smoke cleared, Vira and Corax didn’t look damaged at all.
Around them, a thick, blue barrier of energy hummed and flashed as it surrounded them from all sides.
“Impressive.”
Mira called out, voice tinged with mockery as she tested the barrier with a flick of her hand.
“But a wall won’t save you.”
Vira narrowed her eyes, pouring more power into the barrier.
“It’s not supposed to. It’s just supposed to buy us time to take you down.”
However, while Vira tried to act tough, it was clear that Alex’s attack had taken a great toll on her.
She wasn’t hurt physically by anything, but it was clear that the amount of energy she had to exert in defending that attack was very high for her to handle.
Sweat was practically pouring from her every orifice.
But as she spoke, Alex wasn’t in the mood to let the random side character get their words in while they recovered.
He summoned another Phoenix Flame above his palm, but this time it was clear, nearly invisible.
‘Soul fire!’
Mira recognised it in an instant, but didn’t show her reaction to give anything away to the two higher lifeforms currently facing them.
He unleashed it in an instant, confusing Vira and Corax.
They could feel that Alex had summoned an attack above his palm, but in their minds, it was useless.
It barely even had 10% of the energy of the attack he had just unleashed, yet the two of them were acting like it was a game changer for this whole fight!
When most likely, it would be blocked by Vira’s barrier even easier!
But of course, they couldn’t be more dead wrong.
Whoosh!
Alex sent out the Soul Fire, and it reached Vira’s barrier in an instant, which was normal considering there was only a small gap between the two parties.
And…
“ARGHHH!”
Vira screeched out a guttural scream of pain, convulsing into a fetal position the instant the Soul Fire made contact with her.
Yes, with Vira herself, not her barrier.
