Chapter 483: Unknown lifeform
In the cold, vast and deep reaches of space, far within the Red Demon’s occupied systems, a command ship floated as an imposing, deadly image that they meant business in this war.
Sleek and dark, the vessel was clearly designed for nothing but warfare, with the Red Demon’s crimson insignias and the reinforced hull made of unknown metals gleaming like an apex predator coming out of hibernation.
Inside the ship, its halls were bustling with Red Demons, each tasked with roles essential to the impending assault on another, human occupied system that had yet to be evacuated.
This wasn’t any routine skirmish though.
This operation was different, as for the first time since their campaign against the Federation began, the Red Demons were deploying their A tier awakened onto the field!
The presence of such high ranking awakened made it clear that the upcoming assault wasn’t just another show of force but an extermination.
The captain of this huge command ship, an average sized Red Demon, sat at the command centre.
But his calm and unassuming demeanour was not to be taken lightly.
He may look like the average Red Demon cannon fodder, but in actuality he was a powerful A+ rank Variant class!
His almost chitinous skin thanks to his reinforced scales made it so that he had no need for clunky and unnecessary armour.
His eyes remained sharp and calculating as he scanned over the reports — strategic displays of points of attack, with a plan to devastate every planet they came across with a single sweep.
His claws drummed rhythmically against his armrest, with impatience clearly visible on his expression in anticipation of the massacre that was to come.
Yet, amidst the tense air of preparation, something unexpected disrupted the command centre’s calm.
Beeeep!
An alert blared suddenly, jolting him, and everyone else on the command deck to attention.
“Captain.”
A subordinate reported.
“We’re receiving an alert from one of the scanners on the outer reaches of this system…”
The captain’s gaze snapped to the console.
The alert was unusual, such things should usually be sent to the relevant department in charge of taking care of such things, not sent directly to the top of the pyramid?
And it only grew more unusual upon inspection.
[Unknown lifeform entering system… Unable to detect energy signature of life form…]
He squinted, trying to make sense of the data.
The message was odd — more than odd, it was unsettling even.
He subconsciously increased the frequency of his tapping on his armrest as he reread the message over and over again.
Advanced as the Red Demon scanners were, the systems had failed to detect any signature of this unknown lifeform.
And stranger still, it was described as just that — a lifeform…
Normally, a lifeform with no energy signature meant an unawakened person.
But that was why this situation was even more peculiar…
The scanners had specifically mentioned the entry of a lifeform, not a ship.

Which meant that there was no medium like a ship involved in this situation.
And the only way a lifeform could enter the system at the speed the data was displaying, let alone out in the void of space, it was clear that something unusual was going on here.
“Are you certain this isn’t just some malfunction of the sensors? That tends to happen from time to time with how tight the budget is nowadays.”
The captain asked in a rather demanding tone.
“We’ve run diagnostics on the scanner twice,” The subordinate replied. “The readings are accurate.”
The captain’s mind reeled.
They were literally minutes away from departing on their crusade through the remaining human systems, yet this unknown had to pop up out of nowhere…
He was torn between delaying their departure while investigating this anomaly, or just ignoring it in its entirety.
‘Every being capable of surviving out in the open expanse of space without protection would have some measure of energy signature… even the lucrative S tier lifeforms. But to have no signature? That just didn’t make sense. It’s almost as if—’
A shiver ran through the captain’s spine as he came to a conclusion.
He turned back to the readouts, attempting to investigate further.
But then everything went black.
The captain no longer had any thoughts.
He, along with every single one of his crew, were obliterated — wiped from existence in the fraction of a fraction of a second.
An invisible force swept across the entire fleet, as deadly as it was silent.
Every ship, every soldier, was eradicated as though they’d never existed at all.
No alarm had time to go off — no countermeasures could be activated.
The whole fleet — thousands of warships spanning the whole star system — was snuffed out in an instant, leaving only silence in their wake.
Amidst the eerie silence, a figure appeared, now alone in the void.
The man stood in space as if he belonged there, with his casual business attire sharply out of place considering the near absolute zero environment.
A subtle grin plagued his face as he observed the aftermath of his handiwork.
“Hmm. That was rather disappointing.”
He muttered to himself, with his voice clear as day despite the absence of atmosphere.
He folded his arms, tilting his head as he examined the space where the Red Demon fleet had been mere moments prior.
“Is this the best they’ve got? I was expecting something a bit more… challenging.”
‘Those Red Demons are supposed to be a threat to the Federation? They hardly qualify as an annoyance.’
He thought to himself, with his amusement fading as he contemplated the civilisation he was tasked with monitoring.
Compared to him, they were complete newbies, newcomers to the cosmic stage.
They’d barely had time to build a presence before these Demons had cut their grace period short and waged a brutal, seemingly unprovoked war.
‘Potential, huh?’
He mused, recalling the message that was sent to him by Winter.
‘Those two saplings must be quite good for the higher ups to make this much of a fuss…’
He looked to his hand with sadness, as his previously cool glass of wine had been frozen solid…
