Chapter 485: What…?
The broadcast had interrupted itself with a special emergency report, even though the current report was already a special emergency itself…
‘What could be even more of a special report than this…?’
Both Renfield and Farnes thought to themselves.
The alert switched to a live feed, showing another Red Demon fleet, adrift just like the first.
Thousands of Red Demon warships hung motionless, each one appearing untouched, eerily similar to the first alert that caused Renfield to come bursting into Farnes’ office in the first place.
The ships looked abandoned, but after seeing the first report, Farnes and Renfield both knew this was unlikely to be the case, especially since this was another special emergency report.
Farnes clenched his fists as he realised what he was seeing.
“Another fleet…”
He whispered out in the open air.
The display updated again.
A list appeared, each entry representing a different star system in the milky way galaxy.
Two more systems under Red Demon control flashed onto the list, with location markers indicating war torn systems the federation had lost in the war effort months prior.
These systems, once bristling with hostile Red Demon forces, were now joining the report — more ghost fleets drifting silently.
“Sir!”
Renfield called out, his tone now anxious and astounded.
“We’re getting confirmation now… it’s not just one fleet! There’s another!… and another!”
He pointed to the list as it expanded, now showing a total of three systems… four systems as another had just popped up on there.
All had the same fate — entire Red Demon fleets immobilised, left without a trace of combat or struggle.
Farnes’ expression hardened.
The footage shifted between the locations, showing close ups of the fleets as they floated, abandoned in space.
On one of the ships, the broadcast zoomed in closer as more and more interested parties arrived at the the scenes by the second, all wanting to get a look at what remained of once mighty and powerful Red Demon fleets.
It zoomed in on a bridge, where a group of Federation soldiers lay scattered with their expressions frozen in shock.
To the views who were unaware of what was going on at the moment, it was at this time they realised that this mysterious phenomenon wasn’t at the cause of the Federation’s efforts.
“Four systems…”
Farnes spoke.
“Whatever did this isn’t just a single attack… It’s systematic. They are targeting Red Demon fleets specifically.”
Renfield nodded, just as captivated.
“And there’s still no sign of damage, sir. It’s like… like their lives were just taken from them in an instant, even the A tiers suffered the same fate!”
A little bit of fear creeped its way inside Renfield when he voiced this fact.
He himself was an A tier…

What if the person… or ‘thing’ that caused this decided to come after the human race?
He saw the look on Farnes’ face.
It was the same look he had — shock, awe…
Fear.
If not even Farnes felt confident to face whatever this is, then…
Renfield only felt his fear intensify when thinking of this and his heartbeat quickened every second.
Farnes, not taking note of Renfield’s reaction, straightened his back.
His mind worked away as he considered all the factors that were lay out for him.
It was clearly a calculated assault against the Red Demons. But there were no signs of the typical power struggles between rival factions, no energy readings indicative of the usual attacks, and no trace of even the most advanced forms of attack he’d ever known.
“Whoever — or whatever — is behind this, they’re more powerful than anything we’ve ever seen.”
One man’s image popped into Farnes’ mind when he blurted this out, but he quickly dismissed it.
‘Not even he could perform something like this on the scale that this has taken place.’
The thought was dismissed as quickly as it came.
Renfield finally tore his gaze from the display and looked at his superior, a question forming on his face. Potentially the most important question that needed to be asked at this time.
“Do you think this could be an ally, sir? Someone stepping in to help the Federation?”
Farnes hesitated.
As much as he wanted to believe it, there was something unsettling about the whole situation.
If they were an ally, then surely they would make their presence known?
Would there be a need to hide their presence if they were on their side?
This kind of silent, all consuming destruction didn’t seem like a friendly intervention.
Still, the fact that the attacks so far only targeted the Red Demons was enough assurance for him to keep his cool.
For now…
“I don’t know.”
He spoke.
“But if this is an ally… then they’re certainly sending a strong message. And if they’re not… then we’re fucked.”
Renfield swallowed hard, glancing back at the broadcast.

Amidst the silent void of space, a sleek ship emerged from warp, dropping into the coordinates of a Red Demon controlled system.
Inside the ship, Alex adjusted his display to scan for any enemy movement.
Beside him, Mira’s fingers danced over her own console as she scanned the system.
Her normally confident expression twisted in surprise as she took in the readings.
Alex noticed her frown and leaned closer.
“Something wrong, Mira?”
He asked her.
She just shook her head, still staring at the screen.
“I’m not sure… This is supposed to be one of their controlled systems, right?”
Her gaze shifted to the window in front of her face.
“It seems kinda… silent, doesn’t it?”
Now that she mentioned it, Alex did realise that things seemed a little abnormal.
They were met with zero resistance upon entering the system, when usually the Red Demons would have swarmed their ship the moment they caught sight of them.
“Weird…”
He checked the coordinates twice over.
“This is definitely the place. Is the information wrong? No, it can’t be… We got this directly from the military’s internal systems, they wouldn’t get something as big as this fucked up…”
