Chapter 496: Special announcement
A day after the announcement reached the round table’s ears, the news was released to the public.
It was safe to say that it caused even more of a ruckus than the news of the Red Demon’s original defeat did only a week prior.
This was huge news after all! Arguably even bigger than their victory in the war.
While the news of their victory in war was a momentous moment in the entirety of the Federation, and humanity itself’s victory, winning a single war and hearing that the enemy had been completely wiped out from the roots were two entirely different things.
For one, while everyone was happy and excited that they had won the war, the Red Demons could still have come back with an even stronger army in the future, so they had to stay vigilant.
But after news of their complete eradication came out, this unspoken burden had been lifted off of the common people’s shoulders.
However, it also roused some questions.
Such as the most obvious one.
How?
How had this even happened?
This wasn’t exactly something the Federation could cover up as something they had achieved like they did with the win in the war.
The common citizens weren’t as knowledgeable as the awakened, but they weren’t completely stupid either.
They knew for a fact that the Federation did not have the capacity to wipe out the Red Demon race from the roots, and in such a short time at that, when they had just spent over a year struggling to even cope with the ongoing war in their own galaxy.
If they were on the verge of defeat against just one of their fleets, how on earth could they do such an unimaginable feat of strength?
The obvious answer was that they couldn’t, and didn’t.
Therefore, the Federation didn’t sugarcoat it this time.
Instead of claiming credit for this, they simply claimed ignorance.
This was a half-truth after all, as while they knew more than they were letting on to the general public, they were still just as clueless regarding the ‘who’ and ‘how’.
Hence, the experts and educated people in the Federation just tossed their guesses out on the public channels, with the most popular opinion going around being that an outside, third party civilisation saw an opportunity to eliminate the Red Demons after they had lost so brutally to the humans.
This educated guess quickly gained traction and over a trillion views in less than an hour after posting it.
It was widely accepted after a full day had passed by most of the public, as it seemed like the most likely scenario.
But of course, as with everything, more questions were raised.
‘If this was another race or civilisation, then isn’t it likely they target us next?’
‘Yeah!’
‘Fuck! Are we going to have another intergalactic war on our hands!?’
All sorts of conspiracy theorists flourished in this chaotic environment, but the Federation quickly began efforts to placate their fears.
Today, the President would make an emergency announcement to the entire galaxy, broadcasted live for all to view.
Well, live for all of those who were close enough for the signal to reach them instantaneously…
For those on the outer reaches of the galaxy, who were lucky enough to have escaped the Red Demon’s earliest onslaughts, they had a few second delay between the President’s words being spoken and arriving on their feeds.
Such was the limitations of technology.

30 minutes later, outside the Federation’s headquarters on Earth.
‘Damn this is a huge crowd!’
Alex couldn’t help but exclaim to himself internally.
He and Mira had arrived early to witness the announcement from the President after getting word of it a few hours earlier.
Although they wanted to relax for a bit before heading straight back out into the action, they felt this was too good of an opportunity to miss.
And their thoughts were reciprocated, when Principal Farnes contacted them himself, and spoke in a sly and mysterious tone to the two of them, throwing hints and suggestions about the President’s speech and mentioned explicitly a few times that it would be a shame if the two of them missed it.
The two of them were already interested in going in the first place, but after hearing Principal Farnes’ teasing and leading tone through the call, their curiosity could only be piqued further.
They had to be there now.
Unfortunately, Farnes didn’t give any information up over the call, to the dismay of the two, but that would have spoiled the surprise for them anyway.
It wasn’t long before the President appeared on stage, smiling and waving to the citizens in attendance as the cheers commenced.
There were no doubts that with the current approval ratings, he was definitely getting a second term once his current one was over…
The President looked at the crowd, with his suited figure releasing a placating and relaxing atmosphere.
However, just as Alex and Mira thought that was the end of the entrances, more and more people started to appear on stage one after the other.
That’s right, appear!
Out of thin air!
‘The round table council!’
Alex recognised them instantly, as he and Mira had met them already a few times over the recent two years.
Not to mention he was familiar with the most striking and authoritative looking man, Principal Farnes, who stood at the front of the new arrivals.
The crowd went wild, and the view counts of the livestreams shot up even more after this flashy event.
Nine of the top ten most powerful people in the entire Federation had all just appeared on stage after all!
This was unprecedented!
Never had they appeared in public, all together, before.
Now Alex realised why Principal Farnes seemed so teasing and sly when he called Alex.
It was because of this.
But that was only the beginning of it.
The real thing he called him for was to witness what happened next…
The Federation wouldn’t but this show on for nothing…
