Chapter 497: New beginnings
The President looked at the new arrivals and gave a polite nod to each of them, before turning back to the crowd.
He was only a figurehead after all.
He only had power on the surface, those Nine and the other S tiers in the Federation were the real figures who held power, after all.
“I’m sure all of you have heard about the complete eradication of the Red Demons by now. I’m not going to get into any specifics, as quite frankly, we still know as little as you. However, In a few days, we will begin perhaps the most bold and momentous undertaking our race has undertaken! The Andromeda Galaxy is ripe for the taking now that the Red Demons are no longer in the equation, and it is our Human race that will come out on top to claim it!”
The President’s speech started abruptly, not bothering to sugarcoat things.
“Before any of you raise your concerns, let me speak.”
He coughed as he took a quick glance at his notes.
“It is obvious we will not be the only civilisation that is eyeing this prime real estate. But don’t let that intimidate you! Let them see that although our civilisation has a much shorter history, we are not weak, and we are not to be trifled with! Our victory over the Red Demons is already proof enough of this!”
“This time, we will focus our operations on the border of the galaxy that faces the Andromeda galaxy. In order to ensure safe transport across the millions of light years of empty void, we need to prepare accordingly.”
“This will be a place of opportunity and danger, far surpassing anything you have experienced already. More than the war we have just faced, and more than many of you Awakened might have experienced in the Primordial Expanse! But with high risk, comes even higher reward, I can assure the opportunities will be bountiful. The Red Demon race was even stronger than us admittedly, and they had the resources to match that.”
“With this, I announce the first effort of the human race to become an intergalactic species!”
A thunderous applause erupted as the President ended his speech.
Of course, it was all only a formality.
It wasn’t technically the ‘first’ effort of humanity to spread their wings and influence beyond the milky way, as this effort happened to be the very thing that sparked the invasion and war with the Red Demon race in the first place…

The President sighed as he stepped out of the limelight and off the stage.
While it was a huge honour for him to be spearheading this operation, at least on paper, it was also quite worrying for him.
As he had already mentioned in his speech, this was probably even more dangerous than the war they had only just started to recover from.
Honestly, his opinion matched that of the more liberal members of the round table council who proposed to be more cautious in their approach.
But, as a figurehead, he didn’t have any real say in what happened regarding the awakened side of things.
His area of expertise was more dealing with the world of the ordinary, unawakened.
One could argue this was even more influential, as over 90% of the Federation were still unawakened and they were what made up the super majority of the population.
But everyone knew it was an open secret that power dynamics didn’t work the same way they did a few hundred years ago.
Unlike the past, the power was no longer held by the numbers after the Primordial Expanse and the awakened were introduced.
This was just a fact.
After all, what could a planet with 10 billion ordinary people do against a single A+ rank awakened that suddenly decided he wanted to destroy the planet someday?
Absolutely fuck all.

A few days later, Capital Prime city, Mars.
Alex and Mira stood and looked out of the floor to ceiling window of Principal Farne’s office.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
They had been called there by Farnes to discuss some things before the Federal Expedition officially set off for Andromeda.
And they didn’t have to wait long before Farnes appeared in his usual, mysterious fashion.
Even now, with her increased proficiency with the space element, Mira still couldn’t sense him or get a single grasp on how he teleported.
But that was just the difference between C tiers and S tiers.
“I see you two have made yourselves comfortable in my absence.”
He walked over to them with a smile as he joined them in viewing the hustle and bustle of the outside world through the window.
The skyline was absolutely jam packed with ships of all shapes and sizes, all loading supplies in preparation for the departure towards Andromeda.
“There are a few things to discuss before we officially set out.”
Farnes spoke to them in a lightened tone.
“This will not be like the war. Both sides back then had an unspoken rule to keep the higher ranks out of the lower rank’s conflicts. But we have absolutely no clue what we will find when we reach the other side, and no such rules will apply.”
His light-hearted tone dropped drastically as he assumed a much more serious and tense tone.
“E tiers and A tiers could be involved in the same fights, C tiers and S tiers could be fighting on the same battlefields. Do you get what I’m saying?”
He asked them rigidly.
Seeing them nod, he continued.
“As the two most promising prospects of the Federation, I won’t restrict your movements or stop you from participating, as that will only have adverse effects on your growth in the long term, but please, be careful and cautious when we arrive.”
Alex raised his brows in surprise when he heard that last sentence.
“We?”
Farnes used ‘we’, instead of something like ‘they’, or ‘you two’.
“Are you coming too, sir?”
Farnes smiled after hearing this.
“Of course. How can I miss out on a potential opportunity? After all, this place has the chance to bring even old fossils like me to new heights. The Red Demons had Ancient class powerhouses spearheading their race. If there’s a chance for me to reach that level, it’s in that galaxy.”
Alex and Mira’s heartbeats started to race when they heard this.
If the human race gained another Ancient class S tier…
One that actually considered themselves a citizen of the Federation…
He couldn’t wait to see what the future had in store.
