Chapter 498: How long???
In his ship, Alex and Mira rested before arriving in the living space together.
When they settled down into their comfortable positions, a conversation naturally started between them.
“How long did they say it would take to reach the border?”
Mira asked Alex.
She looked outside of the viewport curiously as countless other ships all moved out from Mars’ orbit in perfect sync with each other.
The Federation had already discussed it with each of the awakened who were willing to participate in this enormous colonisation and conquer of the Andromeda galaxy, which actually happened to number in the trillions.
That’s right.
Trillions of Awakened would be joining this voyage to Andromeda.
Compared to the Red Demon’s fleet, this was even more fearsome.
There might already be some concerns, people wondering why the Federation had struggled so much against the Red Demon fleet if they could gather this many Awakened for the same goal in the matter of a week.
Well, the reason was as simple as location.
When the Red Demon fleet first arrived, they were all grouped up, nearing a trillion fighters in total, with hundreds of millions of ships.
They encompassed a whole, singular mega fleet that enabled them to completely run through and cripple every effort the Federation could make against them simply due to how overwhelming the difference in force was.
All the while, the Federation couldn’t muster a fleet big enough to match them as the distribution of forces had to be spread out to protect the whole galaxy.
If they collected them all together to fight back against the huge Red Demon super fleet head on, then yes, they might have stood a chance at winning the war much earlier instead of prolonging it like it did.
But, it would have also resulted in a huge amount of losses, incomparable to the losses they incurred by distributing their forces.
It simply wasn’t worth it.
But now, the Federation was deploying the same tacting the Red Demons had on them.
However while some might call them hypocrites or whatever, this was actually essential if they wanted to establish some semblance of control over the first regions they came across when they arrive at Andromeda.
This was because the other neighbouring races, who the Federation knew absolutely nothing about, would most definitely be deploying the same tactic.
While the Federation was absolutely clueless to the strength of the other races in the region, as they were still even in the present day, a very closed off civilisation from the rest of the universe.
But if there was one thing they were certain about, it was that there would definitely not be any peaceful relations when they first encountered each other.
That was just how the universe was designed.
“It would take us a day to arrive with the speed of our ship, but since we will be venturing out with the rest of the Federation’s fleet as one to ensure everyone’s safety, we have to maintain the same speed as the slowest of the fleet…”
Alex looked somewhat dissatisfied when he spoke, which he was, to be honest.
Who wouldn’t be a annoyed at having their day long trip be prolonged to over a week…
Not to mention that was just to the border at the edge of the Milky way, after the reached that point and joined up with the rest of the forces coming from all over the Federation to create one super fleet, they had to cross over 2.5 million light years to reach Andromeda.
That journey would definitely be a long and boring one.
Thankfully, the Federation had done the basic courtesy of providing at least competent ships.
If they involved some of the lower class ships Alex had witnessed and been on before, it would take over a month just to reach the border…

And years, potentially even dozens of years, to reach Andromeda.
At that point he definitely wouldn’t bother moving in sync with the rest of the fleet and risk venturing alone.
He was already barely willing to put up with the current journey time, if it were any longer then his patience would run out.
He sighed as he looked down at the flight map on the computer, particularly averting his eyes to the total trip time.
‘6 months…’

A week soon passed and the fleet that departed from the Solar system had arrived at the border of the Milky Way.
Considering they were on the closer side to the galaxy’s edge that faced Andromeda than other systems in the Galaxy, they had to wait another week before departing from the border for everyone else to arrive.
However, one thing Alex, Mira and probably the majority of the awakened who weren’t directly employed by the military weren’t expecting to see was the huge space fortress that floated silently on the outer reaches of the Star system that sat on the very edge of the galaxy.
They had never heard of such a thing existing in this area before, as it was usually designated as a practically empty Star system not worth investing resources in, since star systems were usually richer with resources the closer they were to the centre of the galaxy, so it made sense that this place would be abandoned.
But it was not as they thought.
“What is that huge thing…?”
Alex asked over the comms, to which one of the nearby military ships who were in the know responded.
“That right there is The Jewel of the Federation! We call it the Jewel for short. It’s the latest state of the art creation by the Federation’s top scientists! Production and research was halted over the recent years due to the war, but after the war was over things were quickly kicked up a notch and it was completed just a few days ago!”
Another military ship chimed in after hearing the enthusiasm the first had for this huge megastructure.
“Yeah… I heard the Federation had completed 90% of the entire Jewel’s construction already before the war suddenly broke out. But even if it weren’t for the war, they wouldn’t have been able to complete it. It turns out someone somewhere miscalculated somethings, and a whole mess was made as after doing some readjustments, they found out it required a level of material beyond our current capacity to create to finish construction.”
“I heard they were only able to restart after some kid called Alex brought back a completely intact alien ship… Apparently it was even more advanced than even the Red Demon race had at their disposal.”
‘…’
Alex became silent at the sudden mention of his name.
