Chapter 504: Marvel of Engineering
The Jewel
Outside the docking bay, Alex strolled around alone while he ruminated through his thoughts.
He originally planned to just sit in his ship until the next week passed by as they waited for the rest of the Fleet to arrive from all over the Federation.
But he quickly became bored doing this.
‘Who cares about all that anyway.’
Some people went straight over to the shopping districts to see if there was anything they needed before they departed for Andromeda. There wouldn’t exactly be any Federal trading posts they could go shopping at when they left the Milky way after all.
Others went to the resource districts to get a general idea of the value of the resources in this place.
There were some who went to the entertainment districts, where the bars and hotels, and the less family friendly districts were located.
But it was in these areas that they were most likely to find out some interesting information.
The Prodigies and elite like Alex and Mira didn’t have a need for this tactic anyway, since they probably knew more about this trip to Andromeda than most of the Federation big shots did.
Althea was the perfect example of this in practice.
She was clueless, not only about this upcoming trip to Andromeda, but about the last year’s events in the Federation as a whole!
Like this, Alex just walked his way slowly through the streets and alleys, taking in all of the surroundings with interest, like he was on some sort of sightseeing trip.
‘This truly is a marvel of engineering…’
But the more time he spent exploring, the more it dawned on him just how far the Human race had come.
Just a few hundred years ago, they had only really just stepped out into the universe, and developed superiority over the Milky way over the coming centuries following this.
And now, they were capable of building such mega structures that not even sci–fi writers could have conjured up.
Well, with a little help from some stolen Alien technology, but that was a side factor.
The fact they were able to reverse engineer this technology showed that they didn’t just rely on luck, coincidence and external help to succeed.
But aside from this, his mind was drawn back to reality though.
No matter how impressive technology became, it still couldn’t compare to the human race themselves.
More specifically, the Awakened.
Just think about it — it took them 0.2% of an entire Galaxy’s GDP and an enormous technological and engineering undertaking just to create a weapon on par with a S+ rank Ancient class Awakened.
While this sounded impressive, was it really so when one thought about it?
Sure, it can launch such devastating attacks, but it was the size of a planet, cost a fuck ton to build, and it had many, many more limitations on its use than an equivalent awakened would.
Meanwhile, an awakened of the same rank would just look like a normal human, unassuming if among a crowd. Not to mention they had no such limitations on their power as the Jewel did.
The Jewel could only launch full power, aka Ancient class, attacks once every 10 minutes, and that was already pushing the limits of the technology.
But an Ancient class awakened could do that whenever they liked, with no such time limitations.
The only limitation would probably be that they had to recharge their energy when it was depleted, but even then they would likely have their methods to increase the speed.
However, despite all this, building the Jewel was worth it.

Sure there were many cons to doing so.
But one single pro outweighed all those cons.
Deterrent.
Having such a weapon in their arsenal, ready to use at a moment’s notice, was enough to thwart any attack from another civilisation before it even happened.
Think about it.
The whole reason the Federation built the Jewel was because they didn’t have an Ancient class of their own.
Well, ‘officially’ this wasn’t the case.
Those at the top knew the man who had held first place as the strongest human in the Federation since the Primordial Expanse was introduced was likely an Ancient class.
But there was one catch that still irked them all to this day, but none of them were bold enough to say.
He didn’t use his power for the benefit of the Federation, like Principal Farnes did.
The moment he became the first human in the Federation to reach S tier all those years ago, it was like he vanished right off the face of the universe.
He was completely gone from the public eye, and those who wanted to see him couldnt anymore.
There were only a few people who had the liberty to meet him in person ever since then, but they all came back saying the same thing.
He was uninterested with the Federation’s matters.
Even if they were facing extinction.
And he proved this wasn’t just a bluff or a joke by not even involving himself in the war with the Red Demons and preventing all that bloodshed by revealing his Ancient class power.
If he revealed himself from the beginning to the Red Demons, and his willingness to use his power, then they likely would have left the Federation alone.
The Red Demons did have their own Ancient class powerhouse at the top — in fact they had two of them, the King and Queen, but they couldn’t risk a fight with him.
Sure, they could likely come out on top if they combined their power, but that would come at the cost of being injured and left vulnerable, and if that happened… then the Red Demons would have faced the exact problem they had enforced on the Federation.
This was why so many people had abandoned any hope for him or any reverence for him when no such thing happened when the war was first announced.
‘If only it were Principal Farnes with his power…’
Was what everyone thought and wished for.
