Chapter 512: Under arrest
Feeling his jaw tightening by the second, Leon urged forwards and continued speaking. “This isn’t time! The team on the planet is in danger. I have a recording of their distress call, and I witnessed a spatial tear near their location. Something massive is coming through it and potentially our way, and you could be the reason the entire fleet comes under surprise attack if you don’t let me pass RIGHT NOW!”
The officers exchanged glances with each other, with their expressions shifting slightly, and it was clear that they hadn’t expected such an extreme reaction from this private. The mention of a spatial tear seemed to catch their attention, but their skepticism and criticism remained.
Eventually, the lieutenant at the front sighed. “Even if what you’re saying is true, it’s not your place to escalate this directly to the commander. Submit your data to the tactical analysis team, and they’ll—”
“LISTEN TO ME!” Leon snapped after having enough of this crap. His voice raised enough to quieten down the rest of the cargohold where they were currently standing. He stepped closer to the Lieutenant in question and locked eyes with the man.
“Every second we waste here could mean the difference between life and death for the expedition team. If you don’t take me seriously, I’ll go to the commander myself.”
The group fell silent. The lieutenant’s eyes narrowed and his expression hardened.
This wasn’t just a laughing matter anymore, this private was actually threatening him. His pride wouldn’t allow him to be embarrassed by a lower class individual in front of so many people.
“Private, I suggest you tread carefully,” he spoke in a cold and threatening tone. “You’re already treading on thin ice here with your insubordination. One more step out of line and you’ll find yourself in the detention centre.”
Leon opened his mouth to retort, but stopped himself. He no longer looked directly at the lieutenand and the other officers surrounding him, but past them, near an exit to the cargohold.
At this exit, there were a group of people standing, and they didn’t look impressed nor happy to be there.
In fact, their faces portrayed the fact they were on the exact other end of the spectrum.
They were security officers, ones that worked directly on the Jewel instead of soldiers that were just on break in the Jewel while their main ship underwent maintenance or something.
For them to hold such prestigious positions in this place, they had to be Mutant class and C tier at the very least. The leader of the group even gave off the air of a higher lifeform, so things were clearly serious for him to show up.
Leon’s face was grim when he saw this group, as they were clearly there for him. The fact they were looking directly at him, weapons in hand was already enough of a giveaway.
‘I didn’t expect for these guys to actually report me to the higher ups… I thought they were just egotistical pricks who were a little butthurt a private was talking back to them, but this complicates things. I need to work my way out of this, otherwise those guys in the expedition team stand no chance!’
Leon worked through some plans in his mind, while the other officers looked at each other confusedly when they saw Leon’s distant look and lack of reaction to their intimidation tactics.
Eventually, one of the onlookers signalled to the Lieutenant at the front and pointed behind him, notifying him that Leon was actually distracted by the new group that had just arrived at that hanger.
“Oh shit, which one of you called these guys!” The Lieutenant reacted with surprise when he saw the security officers at the hanger door, and looked at his compatriots to see who was so quick witted to report this feisty private, but all of them shrugged, looking just as confused as him.
Paying attention to their reactions, Leon was utterly confused.
‘It wasn’t these guys who sent the security forces after me?’
‘If it wasn’t them, then who was it?’
He looked around at all the onlookers, but even they seemed to be surprised by the new group. It was clear that nobody in this hanger had snitched on him, not yet at least.
So what were those security guys doing here?
Eventually, after the chaos died down and the security officers had everyone’s attention, the leader at the front nodded and started walking forward, keeping his eyes trained on Leon the entire time.
Occasionally, he and his team darted their gaze for a quick look at his ship, before quickly returning to Leon himself.
It took a few moments for them to reach Leon, with the group of original officers moving aside to make way for the security officers when they approached.
“Private Leon Rask?”
The leader of the security officers was the first to speak. He looked just like an ordinary man, and if not for the striking armour and patches that signified his role as a leader in the security forces of the Jewel, he would blend in with every other tom and joe on the ship.
“Yes sir…” Leon complied, albeit reluctantly. He had no information to go off, so it was best that he found out what they knew first before making any decisions.
He had already learned from his interaction with the other officers that trying to talk and convince them wouldn’t work.

“You are under arrest. Come with us. As of this moment, you do not have any rights. Nor do you have the right to legal council as this is a classified Federal Military mission.”
‘???’
Leon couldn’t believe his eyes, and neither could the onlookers and even the original officers he was arguing with.
He had just landed at this place, and barely even taken a few steps outside of his ship, before he was suddenly arrested out of nowhere and not even given any legal council???
Where was the justice in this world?
Those weren’t his major concerns though.
His biggest concern was that he was the only person who could relay the information from Mira’s emergency broadcast, which he couldn’t do from a jail cell…
Walking through the myriad hallways and corridors, Leon’s mind remained confused the entire time. No matter what his mind came up with, nothing seemed to work in his mental scenario of how to get out of this situation.
But he had still yet to hear the reason he was being charged in the first place, so hope wasn’t lost yet — it was still rapidly dwindling though.
