Chapter 517: Hardened resolve
Back on the surface of the planet, Alex and Mira looked at each other, both with fear evident in their eyes. Alex had just scanned the planet with his spatial perception and watched as the aliens dispatched the rest of the prodigies one by one, as if they were just toys.
Although they were arrogant and even sent some insults his way, that didn’t mean he thought they deserved to die such gruesome and cruel deaths.
But right now, his major concern was what the aliens were going to do next. They were finished with the prodigies who were stupid enough to go charging into a situation he and Mira were clearly running away from in fear, and he had no doubts in his mind at all that he and Mira would be next.
They had no way of hiding themselves or their presence from an awakened so powerful, not to mention there were hundreds of B tiers to accompany the A tier leader in his search.
However, while Alex was wracking his mind, trying to come up with anything that could possibly help them in this situation, his eyes bulged to the extreme when he looked up at the sky.
Above, a huge crack opened up in the fabric of space, spanning a size larger than even the very planet he was standing on. Even though it was at the very height of day on the side of the planet he and Mira were on, he could see the spatial crack clearly.
However, that wasn’t the main thing that concerned him, even though he knew it was a wormhole and the human race didn’t have the capacity to open such things yet.
What really concerned him was the fact that something was coming through from the other side!
He could see the tip of what looked like a huge ship appearing through the wormhole, and his skin ran cold at the sight of it.
Mira herself felt some tingles down her spine when she looked up to take a quick glance after seeing Alex’s reaction.
‘Reinforcements!’
They recognised what it was instantly. Considering the human race had no such capabilities, it could only be reinforcements from the alien side.
‘If the aliens on the surface are already so powerful, then I don’t want to stay and find out what kind of monsters lay in wait on that ship!’
Alex wanted to summon his ship in his desperation and just make a quick escape from the planet as fast as possible, but he knew that was just wishful thinking.
The moment he summoned it out of storage and tried to take off in it, the aliens on the other side of the planet could arrive at the scene in an instant.
Sure, the ship had defences that could defend against A tier attacks, but that was heavily misleading. Yes, it could defend against a single A tier attack before sustaining heavy damages, but that was a Normal class A tier!
Just one glance at the alien captain was all Alex needed to realise he was much, much more than just a normal class! If that thing launched an attack at his ship, he probably wouldn’t even have the chance to try and escape. The ship would just be destroyed then and there.
‘Think Alex, think!’
At this point, the desperation gradually turned into despair. And Alex couldn’t help but feel his hopes rapidly dwindle when he sensed the group of aliens start heading their way. They weren’t travelling at their full speed for whatever reason, probably just another way of them toying with them like children, so there was only around 60 seconds before they arrived.
Alex didn’t know if he could think of any solutions in those 60 seconds…
He knew that if worst came to worst, Mira could escape to the Void dimension before the aliens got to her, but what about him?
He had no such escape route. All he could do was lie in wait for his death to come.
Very soon, 50 seconds passed and the aliens were now on their side of the planet. Mira looked at Alex with worry as she too realised the predicament they were in. But even though Alex would want her to escape while he distracted them, she wouldn’t leave him behind.
The two of them prepared themselves while waiting for the defining moment to come.
Alex donned his Evernight Armour and turned to face the direction the aliens were coming from, with Virtue’s Edge in hand.
With all the buffs his trait and equipment gave him, he felt as ready to face them as he would ever be. If the enemy captain was A- rank, then that would be great, since the 40% damage reduction from his armour would apply to it. That would at least give him somewhat of a fighting chance, he hoped.
As for whether he could cause any damage to it? Well, Alex would just have to wait and see. The gap between C tier and A tier was so vast that there were practically no records of anyone ever crossing it, at least in the human race and from what they found in the wreckage of the Red Demon ships, there were no records of such a thing in there either.
This naturally soured his mood a little, but his will still remained strong.
If there were no records of it ever happening — then he would simply become the first!
Whoosh!

Very soon, the defining moment arrived before them.
The A tier captain, along with dozens and soon hundreds of B tiers, all arrived before Alex and Mira.
Alex turned around to face Mira, about to shout for her to escape while he held them off. But his tongue was tied when he saw her also donning her Evernight armour and holding her sword menacingly towards the aliens.
He felt disheartened to see that she had no intention of leaving, but he also felt touched.
“How about we take a bet?” He gestured towards Mira, wanting to lighten the mood a little.
Mira looked at Alex with a grin. “Oh?”
“I’m betting I’ll kill more of them than you, willing to play along?”
Mira smiled at his words.
If they were going to die, they may as well go out on their own terms!
