Chapter 519: Chaos on the battlefield
The atmosphere was thick with tension as the Lux’s leader, Yaron, began to emerge from the split in his exoskeleton.
A soft, almost eerie light spilled out from the armour, casting many strange shadows on the ground. The humanoid form within was remarkably different from the hulking, armoured figure he had presented only moments prior.
The true Lux stoof at about the same height as the average human, had relatively slender limbs and smother, silvery blueish skin that reflected the eerie light faintly. His eyes glowed a piercing white, with no irises to occupy the centre, looking like he’d walked straight out of an old fashioned 21st century horror movie.
He moved with a grace that only something as otherworldly as his alien form could produce, stepping out of his exoskeleton with an air of utmost confidence.
Alex tightened his grip on Virtue’s Edge as he witnessed this scene, with a pit forming in his stomach. Even with the arrival of Captain Korn, Yaron still kept his confidence. Not only this, his act of stepping out of his exoskeleton wasn’t an act of weakness — it was the opposite actually.
The exoskeleton was there to protect them, to keep them safe from harm, much like Alex and Mira’s Evernight Sovereign armour did. Yet to discard of this so easily and without much hesitation; it displayed to the new arrivals that even with their presence, he wasn’t scared the least bit.
It was quite the provocation – one that could be mistaken as an act of respect for his new opponents. Revealing his true form might seem like he was giving Captain Korn some face as an equal in terms of power, but it was just for him to stretch his legs for a bit and show off that he didn’t need to go all out to defeat him.
Yaron spoke once more, only his voice was much sharper at this point. “You are outmatched, humans. Leave this world while I am showing you such mercy. Your reinforcements won’t save you.”
Captain Korn stepped forward at this point, already realising he’d let the enemy ramble on for too long already. He should have just attacked right as soon as he’d landed to keep the element of surprise!
“This planet is now under Federal Jurisdiction. You’ve attacked our people and threatened many more! We won’t back down.”
Yaron tilted his head slightly, almost curiously, while he let out a strange sounding laugh. “So be it. Your arrogance will be your undoing.”
Without further warning, the Lux leader’s body began to glow brighter than the inside of the exoskeleton that stood behind him. Energy crackled around him and the air started to warp, much like it did on a hot summer’s day.
The other Lux around him mirrored his movements, with their exoskeletons splitting open to reveal their inner appearances. Each of them readiated with otherworldly power, as their B tier aura spread out across the plains.
Alex could feel a cold sweat drip across his temple. This was not a fight that he and Mira should be in the middle of!
“Get ready!” Korn barked, with is voice cutting through the air around them and reaching the ears of every human present. His men started to form a defensive line, with their weapons raised and brimming with energy.
Alex watched this with some surprise and vigilance. He didn’t expect even B tiers to act so obedient and willing to follow other’s orders, considering their status as Higher class beings, but it seemed even they were still bound by the chains of the military.
Then, like a thunderclap, chaos erupted!
Yaron shot forward towards Captain Korn, faster than any of the B tiers on either side could react. His silvery blue form blurred into a flash of light, and Korn barely managed to parry the Lux’s first strike.
The resulting shockwave from their clash sent the soldiers on both sides reeling backwards, and everyone, whether Human or Lux, moved far away from the two to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
When the battlefield once again became organised, the momentary peace didn’t last long. Both the Lux and the Humans regained their grips and shot towards each other, with the Humans being outnumbered thanks to their lower numbers.
Alex and Mira watched this scene with bated breaths, unsure of what to do. With their strength, the best they could do was face 1 or 2 Lux at max, and that was only if they put their all into it and worked flawlessly in sync with each other.
Alex could see clearly that just like the Humans on his side, the Lux weren’t all Ordinarly class either.
There were around 200 of them in total, but around 30 of them were Mutant class. This was lower than the Human’s 50 Mutant class soldiers, but their lack of Mutant classes were made up by the extra ordinary classes.
The battlefield became a bloodied frenzy. The Lux moved with an almost liquid grace. Each strike they delivered oozed with blue energy, and a recurring phenomenon was soon noticed by Alex.
‘They all have the same abilities…’
Each Lux he watched released the same type of attack, a water based attack. This was the first time he had seen so many awakened all have the same type of talent in one place, and they were all a part of the same group at that!
Things quickly became suspicious for him, and he wanted to investigate further but restrained his curiosity as there were more pressing matters at hand.
‘If I get out of this alive, I for sure need to obtain an answer either from the System, or the Lux themselves!’
Alex hardened his resolve, and then, grabbing tightly onto Mira, he turned tail and fled the scene!
‘This place is far too dangerous for us! It’s best if we can find a spot to take out my ship and escape back to the Fleet as soon as possible!’ He thought to himself as he ran,
