Chapter 751: True Necromancy
Every soul who gazed at their interface now saw the truth:

[Former class holders: Retitled → Corpse Animator]

[Reason: They are not him.]

The truth was final.

Unchallengeable.

Unbreakable.

Unyielding.

The Primordial Villain had claimed his throne over death… and the universe would burn or bow in response.

…

“… Damn.” I didn’t know how to react properly. A universal announcement, and now my new spells… All of this was just too overwhelming for my brain to process all at once.

“Quin…” Vex whispered in my lap with shock written all over her beautiful features. “Just what is going on with you?”

I couldn’t help but chuckle while shaking my head. “I wish I knew, Vex, I wish I knew…”

We didn’t have the time to continue the conversation. As our mana reserves were reaching exhaustion, so did my fire’s strength diminish. Due to the difference in stats, I couldn’t kill the strongest lionkin who tried to get to me, but because the eruption of my flames was so destructive, they couldn’t get close enough to us to strike.

But that would change in the next few seconds. It was time to run back to safety.

“Let’s get out of here. [Warp Gat-]”

Vex’s body tensed before I even finished the spell’s incantation.

Her eyes widened.

In the same breath, she made her move: her entire body flipped backward from my lap in a single fluid motion. At the same time, her boot slammed into my chest, sending me tumbling away just as something immense descended from above. We should’ve had time. The fires should’ve given us the time needed.

But… This newcomer didn’t seem to agree, bulldozing their way through the flames.

*BOOM!*

The earth cracked. Dust and debris exploded outward as a titanic axe shattered the ground where I’d been sitting moments ago. A figure landed in the crater. His muscles were more like steel cables than flesh, his body was covered in various battle scars, while his golden mane was wild and blazing like a crown of fire.

The sheer pressure rolling off him was intense, something I’d never experienced beforehand.

I stared at the lionkin warrior—no, monster—who had just attempted to cleave the two of us in half. And my breath caught in my throat.

I didn’t need to be told who this was. My instincts screamed the truth straight into my soul.

Vex growled behind gritted teeth. “Sunfang…”

The name echoed in my head like a death knell.

Shit.

This was the warlord, the apex predator of the lionkin. The reason Vex only ever danced on the outskirts of their territory during her thrill-seeking holiday escapades where she killed as many of their kind as possible. She wasn’t naive. She wasn’t scared of battle, of danger, she just knew there was no chance of her beating monsters like him.

Too fast. Too strong. Too experienced.

Vex was a prodigy, yes. But she was also young. Her stats hadn’t yet caught up to her potential.

If that wasn’t bad enough already, her mana reserves were almost completely depleted.

Still, she raised her blade with resolve shining in her eyes. “Get away from here! I’ll deal with him!”

My stomach twisted.

No.

No way.

I brought her here. I asked her to stand beside me, to help me turn the tide of a lost battle. And now she wanted me to run while she offered herself up for my sake?

To leave her behind like some useless idiot, tail tucked between my legs?

I clenched my fists as my pulse roared in my ears.

Despite the horrible situation, I couldn’t afford to run. I would never be able to look myself in the mirror ever again if I ran away and let the girl I loved become a sacrificial lamb.

Mana surged from my core toward my fingers as I grasped the empty air, with Leohtar Sunfang being the target of my aim.

The terrain responded, as pillars of rock erupted in an instant around the mighty lionkin, slamming together to form a cage of stone. I wasn’t done just yet. Again and again, I reinforced it, placing layers of reinforced barriers on top of each other.

Six layers. Seven. Eight.

I poured my rage, my desperation, my will into the earth.

“Let’s go, Vex!” I shouted, beginning to intone [Warp Gate].

But instantly, a low sound echoed from within the cage.

A deep, rumbling chuckle.

*Crack!*

A fracture formed. Then another. Stone shattered like paper beneath a dragon’s claw. In a spray of dust, Leohtar Sunfang stepped free, untouched, grinning.

His eyes narrowed, not on me… but on her.

“Hah… My instincts were right. You’re the dangerous one.”

Damn it! This monster must be in the level 70s while I’m only level 39. His Vitality and Strength, in combination with the artifacts he was wearing, made him easily break free of my restraints just as he shrugged off my flames. My Magic stat was simply not high enough.

Vex, to her credit, didn’t flinch. She clearly expected this outcome, hence her urging me to leave. Instead of panicking, she used the short second I brought us to consume a second mana potion, letting her regain 30% of her maximum mana.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment for nearly 200 years…” Vex whispered under her breath before her Hexblade’s curse rippled around her like a venomous air, making her blade shine with a red aura as she activated her spell. “[Cursed Fang]!”
