Chapter 761: Back Home [Bonus]
I let out a cold chuckle.
“So they’ve given up their identity as beastkin. They’ve chosen to be elves in fox skin.”
Vargis’s growl rumbled in agreement.
“They’ll pay, Devil. They’ll pay…”
I nodded at the old dogkin warrior, accepting his words.
The next hour or so was spent assessing the losses, treating the wounded, scouring the ruined city of Lionheart, and so on.
“Where did Lady Black Fang go?” Aurora asked.
Vex, who was still occupying my arms as she refused to stand on her own two feet despite being fully capable of standing on her own, shook her head in strong disapproval. “She likely left right after telling Maelstrom how much of a loser he was. I know you guys think of me as an unhinged eccentric, but let me tell you, I’m a model citizen compared to that creature. She’s as antisocial as one can get, easily living in seclusion for centuries without facing any hurdles while doing so.”
I hadn’t noticed her leaving either. It seemed she was the type to vanish as easily as she appeared, like a shadow with an attitude problem.
“I see…” Lucille nodded with a troubled expression, followed by the rest of my girls.
“Why is none of you correcting me?! I just said you guys think of me as an unhinged eccentric! Deny it!”
Vex’s offended cries were ignored by all of us as we returned to my home. It wasn’t like we had more things to do in beastman lands. Our Consortium-given mission ended a long time ago, as soon as we secured the deal between the two parties. The only reason we remained was so that we could save Blossom’s family, help Kitsara’s family, and, naturally, farm souls and XP that came from this war.
Since the mission’s completion, we’ve basically on holiday leave, away from our duties.
Be that as it may, the war was over now. All that remained to do was hunting down the last remnants of living lions and capturing or exterminating them, as well as all the administrative issues the leaders of the Beastman Confederation must deal with. I had no wish to participate in either of those events, highly preferring to regain my lost energies while surrounded by my family and peacefully studying my new necromantic powers, as well as undertaking the next primordial trial to be granted entry into the level 40s.
As for why I took Vex with me?
Despite how hard this decision was, I finally steeled my heart to trust her fully and wholeheartedly. When someone takes a deadly attack meant for you and keeps bleeding just to keep you alive… there’s not much room left for suspicion. I could no longer force myself to remain distrustful.
Truth be told, I would’ve already trusted her some time ago if she hadn’t admitted that she was Black Fang’s loyal subordinate, calling her the owner of her life until the debt she owes to the ancient women gets repaid.
As such, it was not Vex whom I distrusted, but her boss, Black Fang. But since Vex was on her side, my distrust extended to the white-haired babe as a result.
Now that distrust had been fully shattered into useless little pieces. If she was willing to betray me after all we’d been through, then I deserved to fall for having such a bad grasp on the people I allow into my heart.
Kitsara was the only one who wanted to stay behind, wishing to remain by her injured brother’s side for a little longer. She assured me she would let me know once she was ready to come back to us.
I happily accepted her reasoning and told her I was here any time she needed someone to talk to, just as her sister-wives were here for her as well, and then we stepped through the portal and entered into pure serenity.
The contrast hit us like a punch to the gut. Gone was the stench of blood and smoke, replaced by the crisp scent of dew-laced grass and blooming wildflowers. A soft breeze caressed my skin as sunlight streamed through the dense forestry above, dancing between leaves and branches.
And there it stood.
Rosie’s tree.
A towering marvel of the fantasy nature of this world, her home/original body looked like something straight out of a fairytale. Its bark shimmered with natural mana as blooms of innumerable flowers dotted her branches, while delicate vines with glowing berries coiled upward like ornaments.
Beneath its massive canopy, a scene of pure, innocent joy unfolded.
Little Rosie giggled uncontrollably as she stroked the belly of a curled-up Yoruha—the legendary Nine-Tailed Sorceress, currently donning her most adorable form. All nine of her silken midnight black tails fanned around her like a cushion, her tongue lolling out in a rare show of playfulness as she rolled from side to side with her belly exposed to the little dryad girl. Rosie kept squealing every time Yoruha’s paw twitched or her tail flicked, thanks to the scratching of her belly.
Celeste stood nearby, the eight-tailed foxkin maid as still and composed as ever, holding a silver tray of herbal tea and crystal-clear juice with a kind of regal elegance that made the whole scene comedic in contrast. Her golden locks shone under the sun, and though her face was unreadable, her eyes never strayed far from her mistress and the little dryad.
From behind the tree, the five elven sentinel ladies peeked with barely contained glee. These proud women wore identical expressions of unabashed adoration. One of them clutched her chest like she might swoon from how cute Rosie looked while the others whispered excitedly, utterly failing at their job of remaining stoic bodyguards.
Though the little lady certainly didn’t need their protection as long as these two monsters were willing to protect her.

Then, all of a sudden, Rosie’s head snapped in our direction.
Her eyes sparkled as if she’d found the greatest treasure in the world.
“Daddy!!!” she screamed in her high-pitched, joyous tone, then she turned into a green blur and launched herself toward me.
Before I could react (well, not really… I chose not to react), she smacked right into my face, threw my mask away dismissively, and then her tiny arms and legs locked around my head with terrifying strength for someone so small and young. Her body glowed with natural mana stemming from her unique existence, with twigs and flowers tucked into her hair as she nuzzled her cheek into mine with innocent love.
Vex, still nestled in my arms like a lazy cat refusing to move, let out a strangled gasp. “D-Daddy?!”
She looked at me with the wide-eyed horror of someone who just realized she’d stepped into an entirely different genre of life.
“I didn’t know you had a daughter!”
I sighed as Rosie buried her face into my hair with her incessant giggles muffled against my scalp.
“Well, you know now…” I muttered dryly, somehow managing to speak around the affectionate dryad glued to my face.
“But-but-how does that even happen?! Wait, don’t tell me!” Vex’s eyes widened further as her voice pitched up, “When a primordial puts his tool into a tree-?!”
