Chapter 778: Two Fierce Kittens [Bonus Chapter]
No swords, at least. Just bare fists and many bad ideas.

Natalie blinked. “Is… is that okay? They seem to be very angry and hurt!”

Sylvaris sighed, resting her forehead against the window frame. “Those two get along like oil and water. If we’re lucky, they’ll only bruise each other. If we’re unlucky, they’ll level a building or so…”

Another thump followed as Ayame managed to tackle Iris into a barrel, shattering it into splinters. A loud squawk from a terrified chicken echoed somewhere nearby.

Natalie couldn’t help it. The sight of these two was just too ridiculous for a woman who had spent her last two decades living in a forest and the last few months in chains. As such, she sputtered by instinct, after which she swiftly moved her hands, covering her mouth to avoid laughing.

“Should we… stop them?” she asked.

“If they keep it up, we won’t have a choice. I can’t let them destroy what the hard-working laborers had just finished building through painstaking effort.” Sylvaris had a rather exhausted expression, letting the dogkin woman know this serene elf didn’t appreciate having her tea time interrupted.

…

Ayame and Iris writhed on the ground like a pair of feral cats. Dirt was kicking up in large amounts as they rolled, swinging their fists wildly at each other. Every strike of theirs was paired with a sharp insult, making their snarling voices echo through the courtyard.

“Who’s a flat chested female goblin, you emo bitch?!” Ayame shouted, pinning Iris for half a second before springing back, mock tears glistening in her eyes as she clutched at her heart dramatically. In a mocking, high-pitched wail, she mimicked Iris’s tone to the best of her ability.

“Oh, I’m so sad and lonely, Quinlan! I’m here, alone, in the corner… When will you notice me? When will you console me? I’m so pitiful… Will you cheer me up?”

Iris’ face flushed red with fury. “I’ve never once begged for his attention! Your unhinged brain is making up fantasies so that you can cope instead of admitting you’re one jealous cunt because he’s chasing after me instead of you, knowing you’ll part your legs as soon as he asks!”

“Haaah????!!!!”

Ayame’s eye twitched at a speed that wouldn’t be perceivable for the average human eye.

The two feral kittens somehow managed to stand on their two feet, and Iris instantly lunged, slugging Ayame in the shoulder. The impact of the hit jerked the samurai’s body to the side, forcing a grimace from her lips.

But just as Iris moved in to follow up, ready to land another blow, Ayame’s footwork turned lightning-quick.

With a sharp breath, Ayame vanished in a blur, reappearing behind Iris in a single flicker of motion. Her hands gripped onto Iris’ long, black hair, and with a wild scream, she hurled the Child of Reckoning into the air like a missile launched for the heavens.

Iris soared through the skies with her expression caught between fury and disbelief, not expecting the samurai to speed-blitz her in this fashion. For the longest time, she was slightly stronger than Ayame due to her higher level and simply superior class, but… As much as it pained the woman to admit, the XP boost from Quinlan’s [Blessed Seed] and the Skysplitter class from Rosie’s gift made Ayame into an incredibly formidable fighter.

Just as Iris reached the apex of her flight. Ayame bent her knees.

And then she launched, rocketing toward Iris like a guided arrow.

In the skies above the stronghold, the battle erupted into a ballet of chaos. Iris twisted mid-air, but Ayame was faster than she expected. The oriental beauty twirled her lithe body, making her heel slam into Iris’ side with a crack of her ribs that echoed across the rooftops. Iris retaliated while biting her lip as she flung her fists like a tiny comet, the shockwave enough to slow Ayame’s pursuit and give her room to recover.

Below, the courtyard had descended into confused chaos, and at its front, barreling through the garden like a pink rocket, came Rosie.

“Mommy and Aunty are fighting!!” she squealed, zooming around so fast she looked like an overgrown, green, sugar-high bee on steroids.

“Go, Mommy, go! The Elysiars never lose!”

As the aerial brawl raged above, all anyone below could do was gawk, until finally, with a burst of displaced air, Iris and Ayame came crashing down, landing in twin crouches like lightning bolts slamming into earth.

The instant their feet hit the ground, Ayame surged forward, but then, an arm suddenly wrapped around her waist, yanking her into the air like she weighed nothing.

“Enough.”

Lucille.

The ex-Berserker, now Bloodmonger, had a grip that was unyielding. Ayame flailed with her legs kicking at the ground.

“Let go of me, you damn ogre! She started it!”

“Did she now?” Lucille mused as her hold only grew tighter.

Despite all her technique and finesse, Ayame was no match for her raw brute force. She squirmed, twisted, even tried a clever shoulder dislocation to escape the hold, but Lucille didn’t budge.

Across from them, Iris cracked her knuckles, but before she could charge at her rival once again, four figures crashed into her from the side like members of a rugby team.

“Get her arms! Grab her legs!” Seraphiel grunted, using her Dawnbringer strength to try and keep one of Iris’ limbs pinned.

Lyra wrapped her arms around Iris’ midsection, but the woman still bucked and twisted like a captured wild beast.

Blossom, the calmest of the squad, gritted her teeth as she straddled Iris’ upper body and did her best to keep the woman pinned to the ground.

In the meantime, Poppy accepted the most dangerous job of the bunch, which was somehow trying to restrain Iris’s hands.

She didn’t have a resounding success.

“She’s strong—!!” Lyra gasped.

“Blossom is not built for this…!” Blossom murmured with difficulty. Her Agility-focused build was making her job very troublesome.

“Neither am I!!!” Poppy cried after getting punched in her palm.

“What is she, a bull?! Also, I’ll heal you as soon as I get the chance, so hang in there!” Seraphiel grunted as even the four of them struggled to restrain her properly.

From a safe distance, Aurora watched with an amused as she sipped from a teacup.

“If Quin were here, he’d have grabbed a bag of popcorn and watched this ‘kitten fight,’ as he would call it, with sparkling eyes,” she mused.

At that moment, Rosie zipped over, buzzing with excitement. “Big sis Aurora, big sis Aurora! Why aren’t you joining in?! It looks fun! If only Rosie were bigger and stronger!”

Aurora smiled smugly. “Because, unlike Seraphiel, I didn’t gain a class that boosts my physical stats. One wild elbow from either of them and I’d be red paste on the floor. So—” she took another dainty sip, “—it can’t be helped.”

Rosie stared at her blankly.

“Big sis Aurora is boring!!” she declared with child-like conviction, then zoomed away like a sugar-powered missile, heading straight toward the chaos again.

Lucille, still holding Ayame in a tight lock, looked up at her approach with a deadpan expression.

“Someone catch the overly energetic green bee,” she muttered.

Amidst the spiraling madness, laughter started bubbling from Natalie, who had long since abandoned any attempts to appear composed.

She chuckled, wiping a tear from her eye, “It seems this place never gets boring.”

Sylvaris simply sighed with her eyes closed from mental exhaustion.

“… You have no idea.”

While the ladies were having fun, Quinlan was busy testing his necromantic abilities!
