Chapter 406: Attack on the Princess
As twilight embraced the temple grounds, Nora emerged into the fading light, her silhouette blending with the shadows. Her royal guard, a steadfast sentinel in his resplendent armor, stood vigil nearby, the cool air whispering tales of the day’s end.
The night was draped in silence, a stark contrast to the cacophony of Nora’s day. She released a weary sigh, her breath visible in the crisp air, as her gaze lifted to the celestial dance above. The twin moons held court in the heavens— one boldly illuminating the sky, while its sibling shyly offered just a sliver of light. Winter’s chill lingered stubbornly, but Nora was swathed in layers that whispered of the season’s end. “Big brother, hurry up and come back home,” she murmured, her voice a tender blend of hope and longing.
The royal guard, a tapestry of duty and years, stepped forward. “Princess Nora, may we return to the Palace?” His voice, seasoned with decades, carried a respect born of his station, not his age. Nora, a child of eleven summers, still found the world of adults peculiar, their formalities an odd garment that didn’t quite fit. In her heart, only Chiron, her brother, was a haven of warmth in the formal chill of the palace.
As she shifted her gaze from thestarry sky to the old guard, her nod was a silent agreement to his request. Yet, the comfort of routine shattered in an instant when the guard’s hand, swift and sure, halted her with a protective urgency.
The guard, a warrior carved from decades of service, felt an unease slice through the tranquil night. “What is it?” Nora’s inquiry was a mix of confusion and concern.
“It’s too silent,” he murmured, his seasoned eyes scanning the darkness. The air, now thick with an unnatural mist, clung to their clothes and skin, whispering warnings of unseen dangers.
As the mist swirled, transforming the temple grounds into a realm of shadows and whispers, the guard’s instincts screamed of an ambush. “Princess Nora, cover your nose,” he commanded, his voice a shield against the encroaching threat. His actions were swift, but his powers faltered, ensnared by a poison unseen.
With Nora secured, he surged forward, determination his guide, even as his spiritual energy betrayed him. “Shit! I have been poisoned,” he realized, a curse against the night.
He instantly realized that it had been from the mist.
The mist was the poison to weaken his hold on his spiritual energy. Surely, the threat had come prepared.
Their flight from the place was halted by the emergence of figures from the shadows—men of towering presence and intent, their muscles taut with the promise of violence.
The guard’s frown was a line drawn in the sand, his resolve unyielding as he positioned Nora behind him, a barrier against the dark tide.
Nora, though young, recognized the tang of fear and the weight of threat. She was once a fighter too and knew the dance of battle, even as her injury now limited her, this had not changed.
With a warrior’s grace, the guard drew his sword, a gleam of defiance in the dim light.
From the folds of his attire, he retrieved a small bag, infusing it with the last embers of his spirit energy. Tossed into the air, it burst into a beacon of red light, a cry for aid piercing the night.
Across Kendou, the capital’s heart, those of renown felt the signal’s call, their eyes turning toward the distress flare.
This was especially so for the tribal chiefs.
Chief Ban who was the tribal Head of the Giant Gorilla tribe was enjoying a sparing session with his guards in his court yard when he saw the sign the air.
“Invaders in the capital, how dare them?” He bellowed in anger as he waved his hands and his totem for a giant gorilla formed about his body.
With a leap that defied common sense, he kicked against the ground as he leapt into the air.
He was a very incredible warrior.
The moment his totem was activated, everyone in the City knew.
Other chiefs like chief Wallow in their courtyards also noticed this.
Naturally, he also activated his totem and rushed into the sky.
As far as any of them were concerned, this was a brazen display of disrespect.
This was Kendou, the heart of the kingdom of Vandora and in here, there was an attack.
This was an insult to all of them.
There were those that ordered their personal guards to rush forth.
Commander Hardstone was doing his duty as a royal guard to the king when he saw the signal flare through a window.
However, he remembered that the king was safe in his Chambers.

It could therefore only mean that this attack was on another royal, “princess Nora,” he whispered.
Immediately, he rushed out of the window in that direction.
Commander Hardstone was the person that brought Chiron and Nora to the capital city. One might say that he felt a sense of responsibility for them.
If anything happened to Nora, commander Hardstone did not believe that he would forgive himself.
Much worse, he doubted that he would be able to face Chiron afterwards.
As he rushed to the rescue, so did the others.
Meanwhile, within the temple, one of the servants rushed over, “Chief shaman, the princess is in trouble. We need to…”
“Do nothing!” She interrupted the servants words. “All things that happen is within the foresight of the bear mother. This fight is not our own and we shall not participate in it.”
All the other servants and priestesses looked at one another. However, no one said a thing. No one was foolish enough to go against the words of the chief shaman.
Her words were law.
However more muscular men appeared all around them.
Immediately, they attacked.
The first man with unbelievable speed an agility charged at the total guard.
He raised his sword and pierced through the man’s chest.
However, instead of his attack to recoil in the pain of the stab, he grabbed the royal guard’s sword and pulled it closer.
