Chapter 468: Warning From The Elder
Chiron was sipping his tea when he heard those words and he instantly paused. He took a piercing gaze at Elder Baldie, and for a moment, there was a tense atmosphere in the room.
“And let me guess, you are here to… WARN me?” Chiron asked with a chilling tone.” On saying this, a shadow pool had already appeared behind the Elder, Hunter peeping out from time to time as he paraded the place.
Elder Baldie turned a bit to the side, taking a look at the core beast. “Trust me, my Prince. I am not your enemy. Your uncle on the other hand, the candidate for the throne by certain tribes, do not believe, regardless of your incredible accomplishments that you should lead the Vandoria empire. And Trust me, I have played this political game long enough to guess what will happen when they don’t get their way.”
All of a sudden, the menacing aura of death in the room vanished and Chiron dropped his cup of Tea on the Table, “I believe you! Nevertheless, what bugs me is why you would not take their side.”
“I am an Elder in this kingdom, and I am loyal to the crown and the…”
“Don’t give me that bullshit.” Chiron interrupted. “If its the game of politics you are referring to, then trust me, you are at least a thousand years behind.”
Those words did not mean Chiron’s age in relation to the political game. However, Chiron was a person not of this world. His previous world was one that had seen the evolution of politics to a degree that would scare those in this backwater time.
To add to that, any random child had at least read a few books on politics either in school, or from novels. Once in politics, esecially as long as a person such as Elder Baldie had been, it was not possible that an act was done out of impulse or kindness.
After all, Elder Baldie was a man that was not even a cultivator, yet, he represented his tribe amongst those menacing chiefs that were. This was to show that this man was far more competent than he was given credit for.
In fact, he was competent to an indeed scary level.
Chiron had observed him in each of their interactions. Elder Baldie was probably the most dangerous man there was in the kingdom.
Elder Baldie’s expression suddenly changed. “I have served the current king since his youth. Though, I was only a boy then, I was privileged to have the pleasure of being in the politics of the nation at a very early age. When a man partakes of a trade for as long as I have, he is gifted certain traits as a result of his keen instincts to his profession.
A sword’s man can tell if his opponent is stronger than him even before they clash blades, a Carpenter can tell if the wood would hold a house, and a Blacksmith can tell the composition of metal while its still Ore.” He leaned a bit, looking intently at Chiron, as if his eyes were trying to peel off the layers and see what was hidden underneath.
The Elder’s voice suddenly went low. “I see you… Prince Chiron. I know your love for power. But political power is not it. For you it is but a means to an end.”
Chiron raised a brow at him, not breaking eye contact even in the slightest, “and what makes you say that? For all you know, I might be just very good at hiding it.”
Elder Baldie shook his head. “You were able to take the Chanland capital within a night without lifting a finger, and your masacred the senate of the Beast kingdom. If you were interested in Political power, with your ability, you could have ruled either of these countries, or even merged them to become one, and you rain as king. But you did not. Instead, you came back. To what? Play House with a overgrown spoilt BRAT like victor?” Elder Baldie leaned back into his chair, “I don’t think so!”
Chiron’s eyes seemed to smile, but his lips did not, “And what do you think I came back for?”
“You seek power Prince Chiron. If the rumors are true and you are already a bronze ranked cultivator, then it would mean that the Vandoria empire might only have so much to support such a robust cultivation of one with double energy cultivation. Which means the entire country is useless to you. Therefore, if I were to put a finger on it, then I’ll say you want to go there. All you men that seek power by the blade know that you can only truly find it at the edge of the cliff. All you are looking for is the right time and perfect excuse to dive in, and Victor has provided the right one.”
At this point, Chiron chuckled in his heart. Truly, Elder Baldie was not a normal man. He was able to see through Chiron and understand what Chiron considered as his currency. After all, in knowing what Chiron wanted, he could also get what he wanted.
“However…” Elder Baldie continued, “…the Forbidden Fog of Unbounded Demise is not as simple a place as you believe it to be. Out here, you might be strong and top of the power pyramid, but in there, you are nothing but a dry piece of wood trying to challenge a burning bush.”
Chiron was bold, and daring, but one thing he wasn’t was arrogant. He could tell that Elder Baldie had information that was useful to him, and chiron did not interrupt. Instead, he patiently listened. After all, he too was aware that the place he wanted to go to was very dangerous. Right now, Chiron was not an arrogant prince, but a sponge ready to absorb water.
The Elder could see Chiron’s readiness for knowledge, and it prompted him to continue speaking. “Legend has it that Cardinal Forbidden zones are…”
