Re: In My Bloody Hit Novel - Chapter 503
Chapter 503: What Is She?
Nora’s world erupted into agony the moment her body hit the flames.
The searing heat enveloped her, penetrating every inch of her skin, like a thousand white-hot needles stabbing into her flesh. Her screams were swallowed by the roaring furnace, the sound of her own voice becoming a distant echo as the fire consumed her.
The physical pain was unbearable, each second feeling like an eternity. Her skin blistered and peeled away, exposing raw, burning muscle beneath.
The fire gnawed at her, relentless and unyielding, turning her world into a nightmare of torment. The heat was so intense that it felt as though her bones were melting, her entire body becoming a conduit for the inferno’s insatiable hunger.
But it wasn’t just the physical pain that tormented her. The smoke from the spiritual herbs filled her lungs, seeping into her bloodstream and suffusing every cell with its potent essence. It felt as though her veins were filled with liquid fire, each pulse of her heart sending waves of burning agony through her body.
The smoke invaded her mind, clouding her thoughts and distorting her senses. Her vision blurred, colors bleeding into one another in a dizzying, nauseating swirl.
The pain was beyond anything she had ever imagined, a relentless, excruciating torture that left her gasping for breath, her mind teetering on the brink of oblivion.
Her thoughts fragmented, memories of her father and brother flashing through her mind in a disjointed, nightmarish collage. She saw her father’s gentle smile, her brother’s evil grin, their images twisted and distorted by the pain.
After all, this was not the first time she was being burnt alive, but this time around was different. Back then, her so called death had been instant, but now, it was not. She was literally being cooked.
She could feel the spiritual herbs working their way into her very being, their potent energies merging with her own. It was as though the fire was not just consuming her, but transforming her, reshaping her from the inside out. The smoke was no longer just filling her lungs; it was becoming a part of her, fusing with her essence in a way that was both terrifying and intoxicating.
Just when she thought she could endure no more, when the pain had reached a crescendo that threatened to shatter her mind, a strange calmness began to wash over her. It was as if a veil had been lifted, and the world around her faded into a soft, dreamlike haze. The pain was still there, but it became distant, a background noise that she could almost ignore.
She found herself floating in a void, a place of profound stillness and peace. The flames that had once tormented her were now a distant memory, their searing heat replaced by a soothing, cool darkness. She was aware of the smoke still swirling within her, but it no longer felt like an invader. It was a part of her now, its energies merging seamlessly with her own.
In this strange, transcendent state, she felt a sense of clarity and understanding that she had never known before. The pain had been a crucible, a trial by fire that had stripped away the old, broken parts of her and forged something new in their place.
Nora’s consciousness drifted, carried on a tide of calm and serenity.
Within the trance, Nora found herself surrounded by a surreal and breathtaking landscape. The stars above glittered with an ethereal light, close enough to touch yet infinitely distant. Beneath her feet, she seemed to walk on water, its surface shimmering with every step. Surrounding her were beautiful Sakura trees, their delicate petals fluttering in the air like a gentle, pink snowfall.
Before her stood a woman she immediately recognized as the Chief Shaman of the Vandoria kingdom. Yet, her eyes held a unique radiance, a rune shaped like a golden clock glowing within them. Nora’s heart leapt in her chest. “Bear mother!?” she exclaimed in surprise.
The Chief Shaman nodded, her expression calm and knowing. “You are very observant, Nora. As I told you last time, I take the form that is easiest for the human mind to comprehend. My form the last time scared you, so I took a more familiar one. This time around. A god cannot take the shape of a human unless…”
“Unless the human is dead!” Nora finished the sentence, her voice tinged with sorrow and realization. After all, while in the Vandora kingdom, she had read books in the library as she was curious about the people, their believes and their culture.
The Goddess nodded again. “Yes.”
Nora’s heart sank further. “How did she…?”
“By the hands of your brother,” the Goddess replied softly. “She had my blessing, unfortunately not enough as I had used a significant amount on you. Besides… gods are not allowed to interfere with the activities of mortals. For what I have done, I will be needing a long sleep as I have sacrificed a great deal of my Divine power to combat the punishment of the Holy Doa, in order to bring you this opportunity.”
Nora stood in silence, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. “But… Why me?” she finally asked, her voice trembling with uncertainty.
“That, I cannot tell you,” the Goddess responded, her tone gentle but firm. “But a lot rides on you stopping the evil that is your brother. Only you can do it and save this world.”
Conflicting thoughts and emotions surged through Nora. The weight of the responsibility felt overwhelming. The Goddess, sensing her turmoil, reached out and stroked her hair affectionately. “I know it is not easy, my child. But don’t worry. I will leave you one last gift before my rune fades. Remember, you are touched by a goddess. Carry yourself as such.”
Nora wanted to ask more questions, to understand more, but before she could speak, a chiming sound filled the air. The serene landscape around her began to fade, and the vision of the Goddess blurred and dissolved. The last thing she saw was the comforting smile of the Chief Shaman.
Then, with a jolt, she came back to her senses, the reality of her situation crashing back down on her. The pain of her burns was still there, but mingled with it was a new sense of purpose and a lingering warmth from the Goddess’s touch.
