Chapter 534: Chariclo’s Eyes
“Ron ron, guess what!?”

That voice, Chiron could not help but pause and turn slowly… his heart, beating heavily in his chest.

In his entire life, there had been only one person to have called him by that name. it was a subconscious habit she had of always twisting names of those around her, as a way of showing affection, and closeness.

It was also from her that he had gotten his style of of calling Nora, ‘Ra ra’. After all, at a subconscious level, it reminded him of her.

Her silk long black hair she always preferred in a bun behind her head, to hide the slowly showing effects of the Chemotherapy—An attempt to hide her cancer—her dark smooth skin, and the hiding beauty she shielded from the world with a hood every time.

The sun was barely in the sky, but once Chiron turned to her, it was not the yellow rays of the morning that shone on her. But her smile that shone on the world.

And for a second, the entire world seemed to pause, as Chiron’s mind enveloped the sight of the woman before him.

After all, in his previous life, and this one too, she was the only person he ever held dear. “Chariclo!” he muttered lowly.

A simple girl with a very odd name in a modern world.

Looking at her right now, he could not help but remember how there met, a coincidence of sorts, when he had attempted to rob her home.

Chariclo was not poor and homeless like Chiron. She came from a well to do family, that managed to get by. However, her condition worsened the state of the family’s finances.

This made her desperate parents turn to loan sharks for the money. The worse part is that, they had not even gotten the money yet. All they had done was go to the assigned location to get the raw cash.

And when they were returning home, a member of the loan shark group, secretly sent some of his men to intercept them and steal the money.

This was a regular tactic these loan sharks used. They would lend out the money and steal it back. That way, they could have debtors with no way to pay up the money.

And therefore, willing human beings that could be sold into slavery on the black market.

However, this time around, the men that had been sent had been drinking, and When they apprehended Chariclo’s father, they had found his wife beautiful and wanted to have their way with her.

Chariclo’s father had a kick boxing history as a champion when he was much younger, and wanted to defend his wife.

He could let the money go, but touching his wife was something that he would not tolerate no matter what. After all, as a man, he still had his pride.

He took a stand to fight for her, and he was mostly successful, except that the assaulters had come with a gun, and he had not seen when the shooter had raised the weapon in time enough.

Her mother was shoot in the chest, and died a heartbreaking death.

This had flushed her father into a terrible state of depression. He could not take the pain of losing his wife. And in the process, become an extreme alcoholic.

He would stay with her picture all night, as he searched for her voice at the bottom of several bottles. He had become shadow of the man he used to be.

Back then, She no longer stayed in the hospital. The bills were piling up and improvement to her condition was not so much. Also, because of her father’s state, he needed taking care of.

The extended family were not of much use, and some even accused her father of carrying a curse with him and that was why the people around him were either dying or dead.

Everyday for her was a grueling painful process, this was both emotionally and physically.

It was at such a time that she had met him.

back then, Chiron was scavenging for food like he normally would, and Chariclo’s home because of its few members had been a target.

Chiron had entered through the window.

It was a clean work. Enter, steal some cash, food and then leave the place before anyone called the police.

However, when he opened the fridge, it was as if he had seen heaven open its gates before him.

At the time, he had not eaten for two days, and was very hungry. Instead, of packing and leaving with the food, he could not hold back and so he indulged in the meal.

It was at such a time, that Chariclo walked into the kitchen. Her voice had been gentle and calming, “If you rush your food, you will end up choking, have some water.”

She handed him a bottle of water to enjoy. Chiron had been so carried away that he did not even notice and only nodded at her as he sat in front of the fridge.

Only a few seconds later did he realize and turn to his side, only to see a smiling young lady, squatting close to him.

He panicked and wanted to move back, or at least attack. But she immediately leaned forward and placed a hand on his lips, “Shush!” she gave a side smile. “If you make noise, you will wake my father, and you don’t want that do you? Or can you fight kick boxing?”

He shook his head gently. And then she nodded, “you poor thing. You must have suffered a lot!” she leaned even further, stroking his dirty face.

The room had been dim but Chiron could clearly see her eyes, their beauty, and her affection for his state. It was not pity. But genuine care. As if she could see into his soul and capture all of the pain and sadness that he had endured.

For the first time in his life, Chiron had felt Seen…
