Chapter 550: Finding The Crowned Prince
Timothy suddenly pulled hard on the string, and a massive explosion erupted, engulfing the entire village. The night sky lit up with a fiery brilliance, casting long shadows and illuminating the horror of the moment. The force of the blast was deafening, sending shockwaves through the air that rattled even the highest peaks of the surrounding mountains.
“Dylan screamed, “No!” His voice was drowned out by the roar of the explosion, but the anguish in his cry was unmistakable. Flames surged upward, turning the serene night into a scene of chaos and destruction. The heat was intense, and the smell of burning wood and flesh permeated the air.
As the smoke began to clear and the flames died down, the devastation was laid bare. The once peaceful village was reduced to smoldering ruins. The explosion had left a vast crater in its wake, with debris scattered in every direction. Buildings were flattened, and the ground was littered with charred remains.
Dylan looked around in horror, his eyes scanning the wreckage for any sign of life. Many of the men in robes were now lifeless, their bodies burnt beyond recognition.
The explosion had claimed them all, leaving only blackened corpses and the acrid stench of death.
Except one.
Dona remained standing on his flying core beast, a protective holy light surrounding his body. The glow was ethereal, shielding him from the blast and leaving him untouched by the devastation that had consumed everything else. He hovered above the ruins, his expression cold and detached.
Dylan’s eyes narrowed in anger and disbelief. He couldn’t fathom how Dona had survived such a cataclysmic event. The sight of him still standing, protected by his holy aura, was a bitter reminder of the power and influence the Holy Church wielded.
The night was eerily silent in the aftermath of the explosion, the only sound the crackling of dying flames. Dylan’s fists clenched in rage as he stared at Dona, the anger boiling within him.
This was a devastating loss, and yet, the man responsible for so much of the pain and suffering still stood, untouched and seemingly invincible.
As the realization of Timothy’s sacrifice sank in, Dylan’s resolve hardened. This was far from over.
At such a time, as if over come by rage, Dylan pushed with incredible force, hitting Black arrow off his back as he rushed for Deamon.
He mounted Deamon’s body his fist lifted high about to punch him, but for a reason even he could not understand, he stopped.
“He was your subordinate was he not? Why… why did you make him do something so cruel?”
Dylan’s expression remained. And even though Black arrow already had a blade against Dylan’s neck threatening him, Deamon waved his hand for her to drop her weapon.
“He… He was.” Deamon nodded. Dylan looked closely at Deamon and he could tell that at the moment, Deamon was actually holding back himself from shedding tears.
Dylan had known Deamon for a long time. Emotions were not his strong suite and when they were overwhelming, there was a particular look that he always had on his face.
Right now, Deamon was carrying that look.
This was the reason that Dylan had not punched his face in. It was because he could see that Deamon was hurting far more than he was.
Deamon opened his mouth to talk, “service number BG567678, Service Number YU345389, Service Number TY906683….”
Dylan had once been in the military. These were service numbers of those that had served.
Deamon continued to recite them one after the other. Dylan watched as his friend recited more than a hundred of them as a few drops of tear fell from his eyes. It was also obvious that he could recite even more.
“I remember them. Every single one of them. Many of them did not even have a Family. No one to remember their sacrifice made for our freedom. But I am their commander. It is my duty to remember them. And every night, every day, I recite them, a daily prayer to hunt my dreams.
I remember every single one of them. And no one. Absolutely no one knows how much it hurts to lose their smiles more than me.”
Dylan stood up from his friend, sitting on the ground.
Deamon sat upright. “You were gone. They all thought that you had died, but I had made a blood oath contract with you and I knew that you were still alive. I could feel the contrastraint of the contract hunting you in my chest.” Dylan pointed to his heart.
“But Even When the prince had asked, I lied, hoping that you would actually find peace where you went, after all, Prince Chiron had brought peace to the nation. We were the strongest on the Almace continent.
But things did not go that way. On the night that it all went to bits, we were celebrating along with the other citizens just at the other side of the capital. Word wa sthat Prince victor had finally made peace with his nephew as chiron had been named crowned prince.
There were drinks and a lot of people celebrated us. We, his personal army were the highlight of the moment. However, I suddenly felt the burn of my totem. the same one the Prince had given only two people. You and I. This had never happened before, and I could tell that something was wrong.
That was when they came. men from the Holy church. They slaughtered us like we were livestock, and if it was not for Captain Timi, the lot of us would have died that day.

However, the true problem was not all this. King Richard had been murdered. And the crime had been pinned on Prince Chiron. How do i know this?” Dylan pointed at Black Arrow. “She used to work within the palace and recounted what happened that day. The king had entered his chambers to rest, and Victor had insisted on feeding him his medicine. that was How it happened. That was how we lost our most beloved king.
Black Arrow, although a servant in the palace was actually one of the experts protecting the king in secret. Victor’s betrayal of the kingdom had taken them by surprise. According to her, it was not the first time that he had voluteered to do the testing on behalf of his father.
After the death of the king, she and a few others fled the palace to join the rebel army. captain Timi had been in charge then.
And never had he shone so bright like he did then. I was his second in command, and for many weeks, we fought bravely.” He poointed to the exploded ruins in the distance.
“That was how captain Timi had died. And we know this because during that fight, commander hardstone, head of the royal guard had said it. the Holy church let us leave with our wounded because it allows them the opportunity to track the cuts on their skin.
We suffered for a long time because of it. let me ask you? do you know how it feels to have to kill your own men, people you have come to call family just because of a little cut on the arm or the leg, made during battle? A cut that could heal in a two days to a week. But we had no choice. No choice at all. It was either be found out or sacrifice. And so we came up with this means. We use those that have been cut to pull in their numbers and detonate them all.
These are the sacrifices we had to make.”
Dylan looked at the ruined village, and at the figure of Dona flying away into the distance on his winged core beast.
“But what about the villagers?” Dylan muttered.
“They were willing to sacrifice the both of you for little bronze coins. Against the sacrifice of my men, their lives are worth the offer!” Deamon spoke those words with obvious malice at the end of his voice.
This much, Dylan could not argue with. he had not spent so much time with timothy, but he knew that he was a good kid. he even took huge risks when saving his life. But more than anything, the boy only wanted to make his dead father proud.
unfortunately, not all dreams, no matter how noble were allowed the grace of coming to fruition.
Dylan now understood why they had fainted him before brining him to Deamon. It was not explicitly so that he did not find the hide out. But because they did not want him to see that Timothy’s fate had been sealed.
Dylan raised his head to Deamon. “Tell me the truth! What exactly do you want from me? The last time we met, we did not leave on friendly terms. besides, you know my stance when it comes to prince Chiron. I rather have him dead.”
Surprisingly, Deamon was not angry about this. Instead, it made him smile. He turned to Black Arrow, “I told you, didn’t I?”
She nodded.
Dylan raised a brow at both of them. “what do you mean?”
Black Arrow spoke up, “you talk as if Prince Chiron is not dead. Even though it was announced a long time ago that he had met his end. For one that really hates him, why have you not accepted this narrative?”
Dylan suddenly bowed his head a bit.
Deamon chuckled lightly as he rolled his sleeve, revealing the totem mark that helped them form their blade. Chiron had given the both of them this mark a long time ago.
“You feel it too, don’t you. the calling. It has been ringing ceaselessly for a while now.”
Dylan was speechless about this, but the look on his face was all the prove that Deamon needed for him to know that it was true.
“We both know that prince Chiron was a once in a thousand years genius. He was able to conquer two great nations an a gathering of tribes all within a year with barely a thousand men. And still manage time to train himself strong, all while having no hands.
Surely, you too know that the burn in our hands is Prince Chiron’s call to us. He is still alive. And you know it. That is why you are here. even though you made a blood oath. I know you Dylan. You won’t let something as little as a contract stop you once you have made up your mind.”
“If you know this, then why did you bring me here! Why not just kill me when I was out and be done with it?”
“Because we both have a common goal. I know my weakness. I am not like you. I do not have incredible talent for cultivation, and it is only because of my zeal to see this through to the end, have I remained in power as commander of the Rebel army till this moment.
We both of the same goal. Whether if it is your zeal to want to kill him, or it is mine to want him to save us. For now, we must first find him. We must find the CROWNED PRINCE!”
