Chapter 551: Finding The Crowned Prince 2
Deamon presented his hand to Dylan, a determined look in his eyes. “Do we have a deal? We find Chiron first, then settle our differences.”
Dylan hesitated, the weight of past betrayals and present uncertainties bearing down on him. After a moment, he took Deamon’s hand and shook it firmly. “Deal.”
Dylan then asked, “How do you plan to find Chiron? He’s been lost in the Fog of Unbounded Mystery for over a year.”
Deamon smiled, a glint of confidence in his eyes. “We have our ways. Follow me.”
The three of them moved back into the hideout, tracing their steps through the ground. They passed by members of the rebel army, many of whom bowed to Deamon in respect as they passed. Dylan took in the sight, noticing the loyalty and admiration in their eyes.
As they walked, Dylan began to hear low chanting. The sound grew louder as they approached a wide, spacious room. This room was a shrine to the gods, filled with an air of reverence and solemnity.
The room was enormous, with high ceilings and walls adorned with intricate carvings. At the front stood the imposing statue of the Bear Mother, a revered deity among the people. Candles flickered at different sides of the room, casting a warm, golden glow. The scent of burning incense filled the air, mingling with the low hum of prayers being whispered by the faithful.
Statues of various gods and goddesses were placed at different angles throughout the room. Most of these statues resembled animals: a majestic eagle with outstretched wings, a lion roaring in defiance, a wise owl with piercing eyes. There were a few statues of human-like figures, but they were fewer and less prominent compared to their animal counterparts.
The space was vast, with enough room to accommodate hundreds of worshippers. The main altar, located at the far end of the room, was dedicated to the Bear Mother. However, it was clear that no one worshipped there anymore. The altar, once the focal point of devotion, now stood neglected and covered in a thin layer of dust.
People were scattered throughout the shrine, sending out prayers at different places. Some knelt before the statues, others stood with their heads bowed in silent reverence. The atmosphere was one of solemn dedication, a sacred space where the divine and mortal worlds intersected.
Deamon led Dylan and Black Arrow through the room, the low chanting growing louder and more distinct. They moved towards a group of people who seemed to be in a trance, their voices rising and falling in a rhythmic pattern.
Dylan approached the group of people chanting hymns. He called out to one of them, “Chief Priestess! Is there any improvement?”
The woman, the leader of this shrine dedicated to all the gods that the Vandorian people worshipped, stopped and turned to him. “Commander Deamon, it is always a pleasure to see you. I see you have found your… other half!”
If Chiron were here, he would have easily recognized this woman. When he first came to the Vandorian kingdom, she was the one who led him to visit Elder Baldie and then the then Chief Priestess. After the death of the Chief Priestess, she had taken up the mantle. Of course, how she survived that explosion of the temple that day remained a mystery.
She explained that the voice of the Bear Mother, their main god in the kingdom, remained silent. They had even beseeched the other gods, but there was no answer.
The Chief Priestess believed the Bear Mother had abandoned the Vandorian people because they had left her worship to follow the goddess of the Holy Church. She sighed deeply and said, “The people cannot continue like this. They need change. They need hope. The kind only one like the Crowned prince can bring.”
Dylan stepped forward, “That is why we have come to you. We need that item.”
The Chief Priestess nodded and, after instructing the other women to continue their worship, gestured for them to follow her. She walked up to the statue of the Bear Mother and placed her hand on a totem on the statue’s belly. It shone with a blue light and then opened up, revealing a book-like tome.
“Before Chiron went into the Fog of Unbounded Mystery,” she explained, “he came and collected this book from the previous Chief Priest. However, what no one knew was that the Chief Priest had duplicated the tome. It is a guide into the Fog of Unbounded Mystery, and this is how we will navigate our way to bring back the prince.”
The tome lay open in her hands, its pages filled with ancient symbols and detailed maps. It was clear this book held the secrets they needed to venture into the mysterious and perilous fog.
Dylan took a deep breath, his resolve hardening. “This is the key we need. With this, we can find Crowned Prince Chiron and bring him back.”
On the other hand, Dylan frowned a bit. He also planned to find Chiron, but it was to kill him.
The Chief Priestess handed the tome to Deamon, her expression both solemn and hopeful. “May the gods guide you and protect you on your journey. The fate of our people rests on your shoulders.”
Deamon nodded, accepting the weight of the task ahead. He looked at Dylan and Black Arrow, both of whom shared his determination. Together, they would face the unknown, driven by the hope of beholding the presence of a lost prince.
However, just when they were to leave. The chief Priestess called to them, “I shall give you three days to finish absorbing as much of its content as possible and then we will begin the process of caving the key that will let you leave that place once you find him.”
Deamon nodded to her. And they all left.
Three, days came and went by so fast. Faster than they could have thought. Within this time, Black Arrow had been in charge of…
