Chapter 556: Best Two Out Of Three
As Arid finished his preparations going on stage, the dwarf stood beside Alfred.
“Will it work?” Alfred asked.
“It should master. Arid will definitely win, but surviving after using that Rune is not something I can guarantee.”
“Good! not at all a bad idea, and even if he survives, we will just report him for breaking the rules of the Round Table.” Alfred smirked as he turned and walked away.
Arid stepped into the arena. he wore the ceremonial attire of the Diligent family, with the crest of sword and blood boldly on one side of his chest.
he looked heroic, and as one would expect, they were women within the audience that had their eyes on him, screaming for him, and waving to get his attention.
In any land, strength was always admired. besides, there was the off chance that he might actually win and become the heir to the seat of the head of the Diligence family.
Such position of incredible power was attractive to any woman.
There was also the fact that rumors of his strength had spread around the arena.
Unlike Eunid that mostly busied himself with the affairs of the family at home, Arid had actually visited the battlefield before.
And hid achievements there was well recognized.
It was only natural that a lot of people would lean more towards his side of things.
After all, any one that was a member of this family including slaves knew that diligence was inherently the secret to any of the family’s techniques.
Arid stopped before the luxury box of the Patriarch. Soon after, Eunid followed after.
He too stopped before his father.
“You know, you don’t have to do this right? It has been a while, but we are not just cousins but also childhood friends.” Eunid spoke up.
“Exactly, childhood friends! But We are no longer children, and I have a right to fight for what belongs to me.” Arid replied in a low tone.
Eunid frowned a bit at this, but it had gone too far already. It was true that times had changed. As a result of responsibilities, and the nature of their world, they all had to mature quick.
Although still quite young, circumstances had them shed their childhood like a mothing snake.
There was also the fact that because of his incredible mind, Eunid had intentionally broken off certain relationships with his cousins as a certain level of mysteriousness was a value all leaders were to possess.
And he recognized this earlier on.
The crowd was high on the anticipation of the battle, and even the elders for their own reasons seemed to be very Interested.
Then Mulligan, patriarch of the family, raised a hand, and instantly, the roaring crowds went silent. So silent that if a pin had dropped, all would hear it. It was as if even the wind hushed at his command. After that, he stood up. He was sick, and it was strenuous for him, but he still did it.
In a voice that echoed authority despite his frailty, he spoke, “As is tradition, there will be three challenges. Eunid, as the person who was challenged, is allowed to pick the first one.”
Eunid stepped forward, his expression calm and composed, and declared, “Warpuppet-Battle.”
Everyone mused at this, whispers of curiosity and anticipation rippling through the crowd. War puppet-battle was an uncommon pick. the reason was because it involved one picking battle puppets and then using the arena as a warzone, the individual was required to defeat their opponent.
It was uncommon because of two main things. In the heat of battle, confusion could occur as violence was everywhere and only a person with and incredible level of intelligence could control such level of chaos. In fact, there was even once upon a time when actual people were used for the event. But after the war with the elves, it was banned.
But that did not mean that it was any easier with war puppets. After all, it was all made to simulate actual war. Dishing out of the right commands and judging the right formation and strategies to use were all a problem for the average man. However, it was a real test for the capabilities of a leader or grooming one.
The second reason it was uncommon was because accidents that could lead to the death of the commander could happen. In fact, many times, this was the case. After all, it was common knowledge that the swiftest way to end a battle was taking out the head.
Although a flag was always set in place at opposite ends, and taking the opponents flag would indeed end the battle, many people just went for the head commander.

Arid stepped forward, a confident smile on his face, and chose, “Jousting on Giant Double tailed Core Beast Scorpion back.”
The crowd gasped in shock. This was one of the most deadly competitions in this place.
Just as the name declared it. Jousting on Core beast Scorpion back was a recipe for death, both to the person riding it and the opponent.
Core Beast Scorpions were known to have a nasty attitude. With them, it was always sting first and check if it was a threat later.
But even more so was the fact that riding them was practically a death sentence.
They were very difficult to control, and no matter how tamed they were made to be. It was said that the moment that they saw a person mount their back, that just out of curiosity, they would extend their tails to see whether it was possible to reach the person.
It was just their nature. This was an incredibly risky endeavor. But it was even worse because Arid had asked that they fought on scorpions with double tails. This meant that they would have to fight each other while still watching their own backs against attacks from the scorpions and somehow against the scorpion of the enemy.
It was practically a death Sentence waiting to happen. At least this was the explanation of the events that old fang gave to Nora who was seated close to him.
Mulligan declared, “It will be best out of two. If both of you tie after the first and second battles, then there will be a third round. Each of you is allowed a maximum of three members of the family, at your age or younger, to assist you in the battles.”
Eunid’s eyes narrowed slightly, considering his choices, while Arid’s face remained determined, his jaw set with resolve. The elders exchanged glances, some frowning with concern, while Alfred maintained his smirk, confident in the plan he had set in motion as he took his seat in the elder’s stand.
The atmosphere in the hall was thick with tension, anticipation, and the weight of tradition. The gathering, ordered by the patriarch, carried the gravity of the family’s future, and everyone present could feel it.
Arid and Eunid moved to opposite sides of the huge arena, their ceremonial attire billowing slightly with each step. The audience hushed with anticipation.
The arena itself was a massive structure, surrounded by high stone walls adorned with the banners of the Diligence family, their crest prominently displayed.
As they reached their positions, massive gates on either side of the arena began to creak open. The sound echoed through the silent stadium, a deep, resonant noise that sent shivers down the spines of those watching. From each gate emerged an army of puppets, five hundred strong on each side.
These were not ordinary puppets; they were meticulously crafted warriors, each one unique in design and function. Some were armed with a variety of weapons: swords, spears, maces, and bows. Others wielded spiritual energy, their hands glowing with spiritual light as they channeled their power. Many were clad in formidable armor, their metal plates gleaming menacingly under the arena’s lights.
The puppets moved with an eerie precision, their mechanical joints whirring softly as they took their positions. They formed ranks, weapons at the ready, their expressionless faces adding to the unnerving atmosphere.
Nora watched from the sidelines, her heart pounding. The sight of the puppets brought back memories—flashbacks of her own grueling training.
As the two sides prepared for battle, the tension reached its peak. The crowd held its breath, eyes fixed on the arena, waiting for the inevitable clash. Eunid and Arid stood at the forefront of their respective armies, their gazes locked in a silent challenge.
Just as the signal for the battle was about to be given, a loud, feminine voice rang out, cutting through the tense silence.
“Wait! Please don’t start without me.”
This voice was both loud and gentle. But the most defining thing was that once it was heard, the sky above suddenly took on a much darker shade.
And then a cool feeling settled upon the Arena.
And then the voice was heard again, “I heard my teddy bear is having a battle, I came to watch.”
Eunid shook his head and even mulligan sighed slightly…
