Chapter 611: To Build My Legend 2
As Eunid dismounted, Kael Bloodrend’s deep chuckle rolled through the tense silence, his scarred face twisted into a smirk as he strolled forward. His eyes were sharp with disdain, giving Eunid a look of blatant contempt. Kael’s posture held none of the deference that was due to an heir of a Holy Church family; to him, Eunid was little more than an amusement—a naive upstart in the face of overwhelming power.
“So, tell me, little prince,” Kael drawled, his voice dripping with mockery. “Have you come to surrender? Or did you think you’d come and bow at my feet before I crush the Diligence family under Chastity’s heel?”
Eunid held Kael’s gaze, an easy smirk of his own playing across his lips. “Not quite. I came to see who dared lead this armada of the Chastity family. Thought I’d offer you one last chance to turn back—an opportunity for you to surrender while you still can.”
Kael’s laugh boomed across the field, a bellow of pure amusement. “You are truly delusional, Eunid! Do you not see the forces arrayed before you? These warships, these beasts—all brought for the Diligence family’s destruction.” He sneered, his tone sharpening. “Do you think that being some so-called ‘genius’ gives you a chance against the might of the Chastity family? Your family flame is weak, boy. The Chastity family is at the height of its strength!”
Kael’s voice lowered, his tone venomous. “If you’re here to answer for the death of Apollo, I could be generous… surrender yourself and give up some Diligence territory, and perhaps we’ll let you keep your miserable life.” He paused, his eyes glinting with malice as he leaned closer, his lips curling in a smirk. “You know, seeing you in person, I understand why Apollo wanted you. If you’re willing, I’d even consider taking you as my own. Perhaps I could make you beg for mercy on your knees.”
At this, he licked his lips, his gaze hungry and taunting.
For a brief moment, Eunid’s brow furrowed. But he didn’t falter, nor did he lash out. Instead, his voice took on a chilling calmness. “Kael Bloodrend,” he said, his tone as unyielding as stone, “I’m here to build my legend. And I’m thrilled that my first prey will be a man of such renown and strength.”
The wind carried his voice, fierce and resolute, across the field. “By the time this battle is over, the Holy Church will know that I, Eunid of the Diligence family, am no force to be trifled with.”
Eunid strode back to his mount, his expression unreadable as he kicked off, sending the core beast soaring back toward the ranks of the Diligence family. As he rose into the air, one of Kael’s commanders raised his weapon, eager to take a shot, but Kael held out a hand, halting him.
“No,” Kael sneered, his eyes fixed on the fading shape of Eunid. “Let him go. I want to see what this so-called genius plans to do. Crushing him when he’s at his peak will make my victory legendary. When I raze the Diligence family to the ground and seize their lands, I’ll carve out my own kingdom.” He laughed, a deep, menacing sound. “This will make me a great name within Chastity itself—an empire from a mere branch family.”
Eunid’s mount landed before the gathered ranks of the Diligence family, and as he dismounted, commanders approached, questioning him eagerly about his meeting with Kael. But Eunid dismissed their questions, his gaze steely as it swept over his forces. Without a hint of hesitation, he announced, “The patriarch, Mulligan, is dead. My father has been slain. Today, I will have justice.”
He raised his hand, and from the sky, two core beasts descended, each carrying a large cage. Inside the cage was Alfred, the infamous warrior of the Diligence family, bloodied and weakened from his last battle but still exuding defiance.
The murmurs among the soldiers grew louder; Alfred’s reputation was formidable, and some had even hoped in secret that he would take control of the family.
Eunid approached the cage and unlatched the door, standing boldly before his uncle with no fear. Alfred chuckled darkly as he stepped out, despite his injuries. “So, you’ve come to meet your end at my hands,” he spat, his eyes blazing with hatred. With a snarl, he lunged at Eunid, intent on finishing him.
But Eunid remained motionless. A brilliant purple emblem of divine energy appeared on his forehead—the unmistakable mark of the Diligence family’s rightful leader. Alfred’s movement faltered as a sudden, uncontrollable compulsion forced him to his knees, his eyes wide with shock. This was a command on his soul that could not be refuted.
“H-how…?” he stammered, disbelief etched into his face. “How did you become the patriarch? The family flame was dying, and the Anointing Ceremony… it has only been a few hours… How did you?”
Eunid offered no answer. The commanders around him, upon seeing the emblem, dropped to their knees in respect, and one by one, the soldiers followed, acknowledging Eunid’s ascension as the new head.
Of course they had questions on their minds, but that emblem on his head could not be faked. Also, one could not have it unless the previous patriarch wad no more.
Eunid turned his cold gaze to his uncle. “Let this serve as a warning,” he declared, his voice echoing through the silent crowd. “To all who defy me and the order of the Diligence family.” He lifted his blade and pressed it to Alfred’s throat, his voice steady. “I am leading this war, and I do not tolerate desertion or disobedience. Anyone who defies me—commander or not—will face the same fate.”
With one swift motion, he drew the blade across Alfred’s neck. Blood spurted, splattering over the commanders kneeling nearby, their eyes wide with shock.
None dared to speak, their minds reeling from the ruthless finality of Eunid’s actions….
