Chapter 688: Faith Compatibility Is Important
“If I was so useless, then we wouldn’t be having this conversation now, or would we?” Asura smirked in a very cocky manner. And then she stood to her feet, giving a wink at the Seer before she turned to leave.
And for a second, it seemed like the Seer’s incredible bloodlust, like an enraged beast, would swallow her up from behind, but then, like a quenched match, it all suddenly seized.
Not for a second did Asura stop in her steps.
However, after leaving the cathedral, she could not help but look back a bit. Her back had been filled with cold sweat.
Even she knew that she had pushed a little too hard.
Then again, she had to. If she did not prove she was of use, the current fate of the Diligence Family might fall on her Patience family next. Or even worse, in the war to come, they might be sacrificial lambs.
After all, according to the information that she had, it won’t be the first time that an entire family was wiped to further the goal of the Seer.
The outside world believed the Holy Church to be a union of the Seven Families and the Fate Family.
However, Asura knew. The Holy Church was one person… The Seer.
Sigh… “Now, let’s get to the next part of the plan,” She smiled to herself.
….
….Within the Nether Realm, thick black smoke slithered through the towering Castle of Bones, creeping past the grand halls and slipping into a room.
Inside, upon an enormous bed of obsidian silk, lay the body of a girl—still, quiet, untouched.
She looked simple. Innocent.
And yet, the room around her spoke otherwise.
The walls were lined with skulls of great beasts and fallen devils, their hollow eyes staring endlessly at the sleeping girl. Some were massive, with tusks curved like crescent moons. Others were smaller, their fanged mouths frozen in expressions of rage or agony. Their eyes—white, empty, unseeing—yet watching.
The smoke curled toward her, pressing against her nose and ears before slipping inside.
Instantly—
Her eyes shot open.
Swirling within them was an unnatural mix of grey and white, shifting and twisting like a storm trapped within.
She rose.
With a mere thought, her simple nightgown shifted, melting into something richer, deeper.
A red-sleeved gown now adorned her figure, its fabric smooth as liquid fire, clinging gracefully to her frame. The bodice hugged her waist with delicate golden embroidery—thin, twisting lines that mimicked creeping veins. The sleeves, long and flowing, trailed behind her like cascading blood.
The fabric shimmered with power. Elegant. Commanding. Absolute.
She stepped onto the terrace.
The sky above was an endless blend of crimson and darkness, shifting between brilliance and shadow. From the abyss, creatures with twisted wings and hollowed eyes screeched, circling like vultures over a battlefield.
As she walked, demons—both grotesque and beautiful—bowed as she passed.
The maids, draped in dark robes, lowered their heads in respect.
But she did not acknowledge them.
Whispers followed her steps, murmurs of her return and the madness of the demon mother spreading like wildfire.

And still, she ignored them.
Her path led her to the Throne Room.
At its centre sat a massive cauldron, its iron surface etched with ancient runes. Blood boiled within it, thick and bubbling, its deep crimson steam curling into the air.
She stood before it, waiting.
For a moment, there was silence.
Then—
A sickening, wet sound.
The boiling intensified.
And then—fingers.
Thin, long, and horrific, stretching from within the blood, gripping the edge of the cauldron.
And then, a figure emerged.
A woman, naked, her skin slick and glistening with red.
The Demon Mother.
Servants rushed to her, draping her body in black and gold, yet the blood that had coated her seemed to vanish, absorbed into her very flesh.
Her pale skin shone flawless, untouched by the horror from which she had risen.
And then, she smiled.
“Daughter, you have returned.”
The demon daughter bowed deeply, her voice calm and measured.
“Yes, Mother. It went as planned. The informant from the Patience family of the Holy Church was right—the captive was a bomb.”
The Demon Mother nodded in approval, a slow smile spreading across her lips. “That’s very good. It’s good you did not bring it here.”
Yet, the Demon Daughter hesitated, a frown forming on her otherwise unreadable face.
“Mother… is it right to cut ties with Barak? He has proven himself to be a formidable ally.”
The Demon Mother turned fully to face her, her expression unreadable.
“Yes, he is,” she admitted, voice smooth as silk. “But that also means he will be an equally reliable opponent when the time comes. This was an opportunity to shave at his power and weaken the morale of his men—a factor one should never underestimate in war. Besides, it has weakened his hold on the other Zodiac families.”
The Demon Daughter opened her mouth to speak further, “But—”
A finger pressed against her lips.
“Trust me, my dear,” the Demon Mother said, voice affectionate but firm. “The Zodiacs are no more our allies than the Holy Church.”
She turned, her gaze distant as if seeing something beyond the walls of the throne room.
“We must make way for the return of the Demon King. His time is close—I can feel it. Besides, his vessel is all but ready.”
She smiled, her pale skin glowing in the flickering bloodlight of the cauldron.
Yet, the Demon Daughter did not share her mother’s enthusiasm.
The Demon Mother took notice immediately.
Her head tilted slightly, voice almost gentle.
“What is it, Daughter?”
The Demon Daughter hesitated, glancing to the side, as though ashamed to speak.
“Nothing…” she muttered. Then, after a pause, “It’s just… even the servants have begun talking. They think your obsession with the Demon King is foolishness. And I…”
Slap.
The force of the blow sent her head snapping to the side, a thin trail of blood escaping from the corner of her mouth.
The Demon Mother stood tall, eyes glowing with a terrible authority.
“Cast those thoughts from your mind,” she commanded, “and pay no heed to the words of the lesser ones. You are of royal demon blood. There is none like you. You are the one who will usher in the future of our great demon family. But know this—the Demon King is our FUTURE!”
Her words rang with finality.
She turned away, dismissing the conversation entirely.
“Now go get ready… We need to take that thing from the Dragon Zodiac family.”
The Demon Daughter lingered for a moment.
Her face was unreadable.
But soon, she bowed and turned to leave, her footsteps silent as she disappeared into the halls.
On leaving, she stepped back to the terrace. Her face was still red from the hit but it was slowly healing.
Her fingers dug deep into her palm in her anger. So deep that a few drops of red fell.
Just then, she heard screeches from the sky.
These were not the normal ones of demonic beasts.
They were more commanding, and bold. Much like the announcement of an authority.
She looked yo yhe dky and was surprised by what she saw.
Massive dragons had made their arrival. However what was most eye catching was the fact that these dragons had massive runes chains connected to their bodies that was in turn connected to another Dragon in the center.
It was as if that Dragon in the center was being brought here against its wish.
It was blood red, and from time to time, it would roar to the sky in pain.
Each roar made the blood in her veins shake. Even the lesser creatures instant had blood leak from their orifices.
Although she had seen an image of it before, it seemed to have somehow grown, better, evolved, becoming bigger and stronger. It’s chest even radiated with a purple core.
“Is that not the…. Blood Red Fire Dragon?” She thought out lord.
It was not the fact that she was seeing it that was surprising her. But the fact that the dragons actually brought it to the Nether Realm.
After all, the Blood Red Fire Dragon was of royalty within the dragons.
She could not help but have a quick glance at the throne room she just left and wonder what her mother was thinking and how she even managed to convince the Dragon Patriarch of such an arrangement.
…..
Meanwhile, back in the cardinal forbidden zone, Chiron’s experiment on the three major tribes and the smaller Orc tribes was reaching its peak.
He had intentionally allowed little deviations of the spread of religions on both sides for the sake of understanding which was most favourable to him and how these people would react to their personal belief.
His findings were most incredible. Firstly, unlike he had expected, the fruits of faith did not ripen that much.
This was as a result of the difference in specie.
If he was a orc, compatibility would have been best.
Meaning that creatures that were not human were not bad, but not the best for him.
It suddenly made sense why Orc gods targeted orcs to worship them, and human gods targeted human beings.
Faith Nature compatibility was important
