Chapter 713: A Game Of Witts
Lady Selene stared at Chiron with a flicker of surprise breaking through her typically unshakable expression. For a moment, she said nothing—just observed the aftermath. One of her knights lay mangled and motionless in a pool of his own blood. The others—armed and battle-hardened—stood wary, sweat trickling beneath their golden armor.

Chiron’s movements, the precision of his attacks, the brutal confidence in his stance… it was exactly as the rumors had said.

No—worse.

Even Rihanna, wide-eyed and pale, could hardly believe it. Brandon, lying nearby and barely able to move, felt a surge of cold dread. And the remaining Gold-Rank Knights? Their mouths were slightly agape. Whether artificial or not, Gold was still Gold. Yet Chiron had carved through them with terrifying ease.

But they all understood something else too…

Chiron wasn’t done.

Not even close.

And deep down, they all felt it.

Yet to Chiron, these knights were barely an appetizer. They weren’t the ones who haunted his memories. Fighting a knight—ranked or not—was nothing compared to standing against a Finger of Solitude like Clown. That was real fear. That was true madness. Compared to that, this was just a warm-up.

Selene’s jaw clenched as she gave the order again—her voice sharp, shaking with fury. “Kill him.”

But this time, Chiron moved first.

With a simple wave of his hand, reality seemed to bend.

From the earth, with the roar of twisted space, armored tanks emerged—massive, menacing machines with long muzzles that swung to aim directly at Selene, her knights, the pirates, and even the terrified villagers. The heavy silence that followed was chilling.

Everyone froze.

Pirates cursed under their breath, holy knights raised their shields instinctively, and villagers screamed, unsure if they should run or pray.

Then Chiron, with a chilling smile, gave the command.

“Fire!”

The tanks roared. A barrage of destruction lit up the battlefield.

BOOM!

CRACK!

THRUMMMM!

Explosions tore across the ground, scattering dirt, bodies, and screams in every direction. These weren’t the elegant burns of spiritual fire, no—they were metal, shrapnel, and combustion, foreign to this world’s natural laws, and they tore through the crowd with mechanical fury.

Those who failed to raise shields in time were shredded—turned into flying sleeves of flesh and cloth. Buildings exploded. Smoke poured into the sky. Some pirates caught in the blast were thrown into the sea; others vanished entirely.

It was chaos.

People screamed. Knights shouted over the destruction. The ground trembled under the assault.

And in the middle of it all stood Chiron—calm, untouched, grinning.

But not for long.

Lady Selene’s fury erupted.

She raised her hand skyward, her voice cold and commanding:

“Sanctified Wrath: Heaven’s Pulse!”

The sky screamed in reply. Light bent and cracked as bolts of lightning ten times brighter than the sun struck down from above, slamming into every single tank with divine judgment.

BOOM!

One after another, the machines exploded into nothing but dust and smoke.

Even Chiron had to raise a brow. “Now that… was impressive.”

But Selene didn’t stop. She rushed him, eyes locked, cloak billowing like wings of death. Her punch cracked through the air with the force of divine judgment.

And it landed—square through his chest as lightning sparked outward in a crazy dance.

His body exploded into fragments—gone.

Her breath caught in her throat.

Finally? Had she done it?

Then she heard it.

A soft breath. A voice behind her.

“…Looking for this?”

She spun around.

There stood Chiron—holding her son, Cassian, by the neck like a piece of laundry.

Cassian gagged, struggling.

And the Chiron she had just killed?

That one crumbled into pieces—a puppet, grinning in silence even as it was nothing but broken wood of the ground.

Selene’s eyes widened in horror. Her heartbeat thundered.

This wasn’t a fight.

This was a game.

And Chiron was winning.

Selene made to move—her body taut, eyes blazing—but then Chiron’s voice rang out, calm and cold, laced with mockery:

“Ah, ah… I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” he said, tightening his grip on Cassian’s throat. “One more step and I’ll snap his neck like a twig. You wouldn’t want that, would you?”

Cassian gasped, his legs flailing slightly off the ground. His eyes met his mother’s—wide, terrified, begging.

“Now,” Chiron continued, voice light, almost whimsical, “if you’d like your dear son to keep breathing, you and your lot will evacuate this island.”

He paused, letting his gaze sweep over the burning ruins, the smoldering debris, the bodies strewn across what was once a joyful festival ground.

Then, in a tone dripping with mock pity, he said, “Look at what you’ve done. You, and those accursed pirates… what a shame. Such a peaceful little place, ruined.”

He shook his head like a disappointed nobleman surveying a ruined garden.

“And here I was, just trying to enjoy the festival.”

The sheer audacity of his words made Selene’s jaw clench. As if he wasn’t part of the destruction himself.

Still, beneath her fury, she knew. The mistake had been hers. She had left her son’s side. She had gambled—and Chiron had outplayed her.

Her voice came low, sharp. “Are you a man of your word?”

Chiron’s smile twitched wider. “I suppose you won’t know… until you try.”

She sucked in a breath, then demanded, “Swear an oath on it.”

Chiron raised an eyebrow. The look he gave her was one of sheer incredulity, like a king watching a jester try to command the court.

She faltered, realizing the absurdity of asking a man like Chiron to swear an oath.

She didn’t press it again.

Instead, her gaze turned into steel. “If you hurt my son,” she growled, “I’ll make sure you pay for it—with your life.”

The air shifted.

And then she turned, her voice now sharp and commanding. “All Holy Church vessels—retreat ten nautical miles from the island. Now.”

There was a moment of hesitation. But the Gold-Ranked Knights obeyed, shouting orders to the ship captains. Sails turned, anchors lifted, and one by one, the ships began backing away.

Selene turned next to the pirates, locking eyes with Rihanna.

Rihanna sneered. “You don’t command me, Lady Selene.”

But Selene whipped around with such force that her hair lashed through the air like a sword’s strike.

“I wasn’t asking. Do it. Unless you want to die right here.”

The glare that passed between them was thick with venom.

But Rihanna, clicking her tongue, gave a reluctant nod. She turned to her men and raised a hand. “Fall back.”

The pirate ships, too, began to drift away, sails billowing as they distanced themselves from the shoreline.

Silence followed.

The wind carried smoke and ash across the island.

Then—just as the last ship left the shore—Chiron moved.

He slid a finger across Cassian’s neck—not deep enough to kill, but enough to draw a clean, steady stream of blood.

Before anyone could react, he dipped his thumb in the blood… and placed a speck of it on his tongue.

A slow, wicked grin stretched across his face—unnatural, unsettling.

He whispered something under his breath.

And then… he smiled, like a devil who had just been fed.
