Chapter 100: Kiss your husband
“From today onward, Orabela will no longer be the executive of the beauty brand,” Darius announced in a loud tone.
“No! Dad, no!” Orabela shouted, her voice rising in panic.
In a fit of rage, she lunged at Layla, but Lucius intervened, shoving her away. Orabela stumbled and fell to the floor as he positioned himself protectively beside Layla.
“Darius, you need to act fast. By tomorrow, this decision should be finalized. Many of your company’s executives witnessed what happened today. If you don’t take action, they’ll start losing faith in you and your leadership. It’s best to comply with what Layla wants,” Lucius advised, his tone firm.
“Shall we leave then, dear?” he asked, looking down at Layla, who nodded in agreement.
“Rick, I have an offer for you. Meet me in my office tomorrow if you want the land I won in the bid,” Lucius stated, directing his gaze toward Roderick.
“Sure, Uncle,” Roderick replied, eager to discuss it but sensing that now wasn’t the right moment to talk to Layla.
With a final glance at Orabela, Layla turned and walked away with Lucius. To her surprise, instead of exiting the hotel, he guided her toward the elevator.
“Where are we going?” she asked, confusion knitting her brows.
“We haven’t started the birthday celebration yet,” Lucius replied, pressing the button for the elevator. As the doors slid shut, he turned to face her, his expression softening. “How do you feel? I’m sorry you had to hear all of that.”
“Don’t be sorry. I’ve heard those words before,” Layla said, her tone steady. “The surprise you gave me wasn’t what I expected. But how did you manage to get the audio? Did Orabela visit her in prison?”
“Yes,” Lucius confirmed. “She intended to use Seraphina to remove you from your position as Director. That’s why I thought it would be best to ruin Orabela’s birthday completely. But I’m glad you stood your ground and asked for her suspension.”
“Thank you for exposing her,” Layla said earnestly. “I could never reveal the kind of person Orabela truly is. Tonight, it finally happened, and I’m grateful for that.”
Lucius gently brushed a few loose strands of hair away from Layla’s face, his fingers lingering as he caressed her cheek. “Layla, you’re meant to shine more brightly with each passing day. Just don’t lose faith in the good that surrounds you,” he said, his voice filled with warmth and reassurance.
Layla hummed in response, her gaze never wavering from his. Her eyes drifted to his lips, and before she knew it, she leaned in, softly pressing her lips to his. Lucius responded, his kiss deepening as he drew her closer, his fingers threading through her hair.
Her hands found their way to his chest as she took a step back, and they continued their gentle retreat until her back pressed against the elevator wall. Neither of them pulled away until the elevator dinged, signaling their arrival.
Layla lowered her head with a soft smile, only to feel a soft blindfold being placed over her eyes.
“Lucius!” she whispered in surprise, lifting her head instinctively.
“Shh.” He tied a blindfold around her eyes and held her both hands. He walked her out of the elevator and finally stopped. She felt him stepping away and she reached to her blindfold. Opening the knot on it, she let it slipped off her eyes.
Just then, Roger, Aiden, and Ruby blew party poppers, filling the air with confetti as they began singing a joyful rendition of “Happy Birthday” for Layla. Colorful balloons covered the entire floor, creating a festive atmosphere that took Layla by surprise.
Ruby handed her popper to Roger and rushed forward, pulling Layla into a tight hug. “Happy birthday, Layla!” she exclaimed warmly.
“Thank you,” Layla replied, her eyes gleaming with gratitude as she pulled back. “But you told me you had to go to your aunt’s urgently. How did you—?”
“Well,” Ruby grinned, glancing over at Lucius, “Lucius sent a car for me. Everything got sorted at my aunt’s house, so I came back as soon as I could. Now, come on—we need to cut the cake. It’s already almost 7!”
Layla chuckled, glancing around at her friends and the decorations, feeling a warmth she hadn’t felt in a long time. But where had Lucius gone?
“I’m here,” Lucius announced, entering with a food trolley carrying a beautifully decorated cake.
Layla beamed as she leaned forward to blow out the candles, and cheers filled the room as she began the cake-cutting. She took the first slice and offered it to Lucius, who accepted it with a gentle smile, then shared pieces with Roger, Aiden, and Ruby.
After the cake, Ruby eagerly handed Layla a neatly wrapped box. “Here’s your gift!” she said excitedly.
“Oh, Ruby, thank you!” Layla replied, placing it on the table beside her.
Roger held up another gift, grinning. “And these are from Aiden and me. We thought you’d enjoy a little surprise.”

Layla laughed, taking in the weight of the package. “Thank you both! I’m curious now—feels like there’s something special in here.”
Lucius then stepped forward, a small box in his hand. “And this is from your husband,” he said with a warm smile, handing it to her.
“But you’ve already gifted me so many things,” Layla whispered.
“Go on, open it!” Ruby encouraged, nudging her playfully.
Layla glanced at Lucius, biting her lip with a mixture of excitement and nerves. “Alright, let’s see what’s inside it,” she murmured, carefully lifting the lid. Inside, a car key rested, adorned with the iconic logo of her dream car. Layla’s breath caught as realization dawned.
“Oh my gosh, Lucius! You bought her the car she’s always dreamed of!” Ruby exclaimed, practically bouncing with excitement.
Layla looked up, her eyes wide with amazement. “Lucius, this… I don’t even know what to say. Thank you.”
“Give me a kiss,” Lucius demanded, “as a thank you.”
Roger and Aiden exchanged glances with each other while Ruby gently pushed forward Layla. “Go on! Kiss your husband,” Ruby playfully said.
Layla moved closer to him and kissed him lightly on his lips. “Thank you,” she whispered while smiling.
