Chapter 112: Caring deeply for yours?
“Mom, Dad, she’s lying to you both!
This is Lucius’s doing.
They’ve presented a fake DNA test-why wouldn’t I be your daughter?” Orabela’s voice wavered with frustration as she placed a hand over her heart, her eyes pleading with them.
“I agree,” Lady Agatha said, her expression hardened.
“I can’t believe Layla would stoop so low as to forge DNA tests just to take control of the family business and our assets.
It’s despicable.” Her voice turned cold.
“Tear that test up and throw it in the bin.
None of us should have anything to do with Layla-like mother, like daughter.” Without a word, Miriam walked out of the ward, her mind reeling.
She couldn’t shake the haunting look in Layla’s eyes when she’d confronted her, demanding to know how she could have gone so long without recognizing her own daughter.
“Mom!” Orabela called out, her tone growing sharper as Darius tried to soothe her.
“Stay with her-I’ll be right back,” he assured her, quickly following after his wife.
Outside, Miriam caught sight of Lucius rushing Layla, unconscious and limp, into a nearby room.
Her heart pounded as she hastened her steps, stopping just outside the doorway.
She watched Lucius explain to the doctor how Layla had fainted from shock.
Miriam’s gaze shifted to the test results still clutched in her hand, then back to Layla.
An unexpected emotion stirred within her-a feeling she couldn’t quite name.
“Miriam, let’s go back,” Darius said quietly, resting a hand on her shoulder.
His eyes followed hers to where Layla lay on the hospital bed, motionless.
“She fainted from shock,” Miriam whispered, unable to look away.
“But… what if Layla really is our daughter?” “Don’t be absurd!” Darius snapped, a flash of irritation crossing his face.
“We shouldn’t be here.
Let’s go before Lucius notices us,” he insisted, guiding her away despite the lingering questions in Miriam’s heart.
As they turned to leave, Lucius’s voice cut through the room like a blade.
“Stay where you are!” he commanded sharply, his gaze cold and unwavering.
Just then, the doctor stepped aside, giving Lucius a reassuring nod.
“There’s no need to worry.
She’ll be fine,” he said, smiling briefly before exiting with the nurse.
Once they were alone, Lucius approached Miriam and Darius, reaching out to take the report from Miriam’s hand.

“I know you two may struggle to accept this truth,” he began, his voice edged with frustration.
“But ask yourselves-why would a mother treat her own child so coldly while caring deeply for yours?
Both girls share the same birthdate.
And while your husband has always turned a blind eye, perhaps it’s time you learned the truth about how Layla ended up as Seraphina’s daughter.” Lucius shifted his gaze to Darius, his expression darkening.
“This DNA report is from the most reputable hospital in the country.
If you doubt it, feel free to get another test-just make sure Orabela never finds out.
She’s already done enough to destroy Layla’s life and won’t hesitate to change the real report.” His tone grew more forceful.
“Now, both of you, leave.
And stay away from my wife,” Lucius warned before slamming the door at their faces.
“I think he’s lying,” Darius said.
Miriam remained quiet.
Her mind had many things going on.
She decided to see Seraphina and find out the truth from her.
If Layla was truly her daughter, she would not spare Seraphina.
“All this has happened because of you.
Our family is on the verge of destruction because of your mistress and child,” Miriam said and walked away, ignoring Darius’s calls.
Her sole focus was now on to find out the truth.
~~~~ Darius returned to the wardroom alone, his expression tense.
Orabela’s eyes widened with worry as she glanced around.
“Where’s Mom?” she asked anxiously.
“She went home,” Darius replied, keeping his tone steady.
“She wasn’t feeling well, so I asked her to rest.” He forced a reassuring smile, but Orabela noticed the hint of strain in his voice.
Lady Agatha, seated nearby, huffed in irritation, her arms crossed and expression still sour.
Just then, a nurse entered, announcing, “You’re all set.
Orabela is cleared to go home.” Darius quickly signed the discharge papers, and together, they left the hospital, making their way back home in silence.
“Dad, do you truly trust Layla and Lucius?” Orabela asked cautiously from the back seat, glancing between her father and her grandmother.
Darius let out a weary sigh.
“I don’t know what to believe anymore, Orabela,” he replied, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
“But a DNA test might finally put an end to their claims, once and for all.” Lady Agatha scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain.
“You’re walking right into their trap, Darius.
Why should a DNA test even be necessary when we all know Orabela is yours and Miriam’s daughter?” She shook her head, her frustration clear.
“They’re just trying to plant seeds of doubt.
Don’t let them succeed.” “Yes.
Layla wants everything that belongs to me to be hers.
That’s why she suddenly brought a fake DNA test.
Why would I be Seraphina’s daughter?
That’s an absolute lie, Dad.
Please don’t believe Layla.
You know she used to lie to you even when she was young and would steal money,” Orabela remarked, observing her father’s reaction, who was on the passanger’s seat.
Lady Agatha patted Orabela’s hand.
“Don’t be worried.” Darius recalled Lucius’s warning not to tell about the DNA test to Orabela.
“We won’t.
Let’s just stay away from them.
Do not try to defame Layla or make any plans as you did on your birthday.
I don’t want you to take down the name of our family with your stupidness.
And don’t harm yourself.
I was worried to see you in that state,” he said in a low voice.
“I’m sorry, Dad.
It won’t happen anymore,” Orabela pronounced.
‘Layla is trying her best to become the real heiress.
I wonder where Sylvia has gone.
She’s not doing anything.
She said she would kill Layla, then why she’s so quiet.’
