Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle - Chapter 115
Chapter 115: Dark period in his life Chapter 115: Dark period in his life “Boss, I have intel,” Aiden murmured, leaning in to whisper something in Lucius’s ear.
He stepped back, watching as Lucius absorbed the information.
Lucius’s eyes narrowed.
“Are you certain?” “Yes, Boss,” Aiden affirmed with a nod.
Lucius’s brows drew together, the weight of the decision settling on him.
He’d planned to leave for Spain, but now he hesitated-Layla needed him here during this difficult time.
“I might have to delay the trip,” Lucius muttered.
“But, Boss, this is a rare chance.
The person in Spain is the only known witness who saw Matteo’s killer that day,” Aiden urged.
“Roger and I could go, but we doubt the witness will trust us enough to share anything.” Lucius fell silent, his mind confused with what to do.
Discovering who killed Matteo was crucial.
Yet, Orabela, Roderick, and others with questionable motives might try to take advantage of Layla’s vulnerability in his absence.
“I’ll stay with Madam Layla, Boss.
You don’t need to worry about her,” Aiden assured him.
“Besides, your wife can handle things here.
You’ve always said she’s a strong woman.” Lucius took a deep breath, weighing his options.
“You shouldn’t worry about me,” Layla’s voice broke through the room.
She stood at the doorway, a tray balanced in her hands, her gaze fixated on Lucius.
Walking inside, she continued, “Go and do what you need to.
It’s important to find out who was behind your friend’s death.” She set the tray down on the table.
Lucius immediately rose from his seat, though Aiden stayed rooted, watching the exchange with caution.
“Layla, you know how your family-” Lucius began, his tone filled with concern.
“I know,” Layla cut him off, her voice firm but calm.
“I know the risks.
But this is something you can’t ignore.” Her eyes met his.
“I can handle whatever happens here.
You need to find the truth for Matteo-and for yourself.” Lucius hesitated, his eyes searching her face, but her determination was clear.
She was stronger than anyone gave her credit for, and in that moment, he realized he had to trust her strength as much as she trusted his.
“Go to Spain and take care of what you need to,” Layla said gently, a warm smile touching her lips.
“I’ll miss you, of course, but we can always talk through video calls.” She motioned to the coffee on the table.

“Let’s enjoy this before it gets cold.
Aiden, would you like to join us?” Aiden shook his head, giving a polite bow.
“I’d love to, Madam, but I have some pressing matters to attend to.
I’ll take my leave.” He exited the study, closing the door quietly behind him.
Layla poured their coffee, placing a mug in front of Lucius.
As he gestured for her to take the leather chair across from him, she hesitated, her gaze drifting toward the shelves.
“Actually, I’d like to look around a bit,” she said, walking toward the rows of neatly organized books, each title related to business or economics.
She took slow sips of her coffee as she ran her fingers along the spines, her attention pausing on an old photo album tucked on one of the higher shelves.
Pulling it down, she brought it to the table.
“May I?” she asked, seeking his permission.
“Of course,” Lucius replied, setting his mug down on the desk with a small smile.
Layla opened the album, and her face lit up as she thumbed through the pages.
“Your school photos,” she murmured, tracing the images with her fingers.
She stopped at one picture, pointing him out among a group of students.
“You were the tall one in the middle.” Lucius chuckled.
“Tallest in my class.
I’m surprised I kept these after all this time.” “What do you mean?” Layla asked, glancing up at him.
“These are treasures-snapshots of your past.
As we grow older, it’s these moments we look back on.
They remind us of who we were, and we can find joy in the memories.” He nodded thoughtfully, though his gaze seemed distant.
“You’re right.
I just… rarely go back to those days.” Layla smiled, flipping through more of the pages.
“Then when we have kids someday and they beg to see what their father looked like in his younger days, I’ll show them this.” Her voice softened, almost as if she were speaking more to herself than to him.
“They’ll want to know about their dad’s youth.” The thought filled Lucius with a strange, unfamiliar warmth.
Imagining children of their own, with Layla beside him, stirred something deeply comforting in him.
“Is this you and Matteo?” Layla asked, her finger resting on a photograph where two young men stood side by side, arms around each other’s shoulders, grinning.
Lucius leaned closer to look and nodded.
“Yes.
We were seventeen then.
He’d just transferred to my school.
That was around the time my parents separated, and my mom left me.” A flicker of nostalgia softened his gaze as he remembered the moment captured in the photo.
It had been one of the few bright spots during a dark period in his life.
Matteo had been his anchor then, someone who made the loneliness bearable.
Layla studied his expression thoughtfully.
“He must have been a good friend to you,” she said softly.
“He was,” Lucius admitted, his voice heavy with both fondness and loss.
The absence of Matteo felt as raw as ever, but somehow, sharing these memories with Layla made it feel a little less painful.
“Matteo was a photogenic person,” Lucius stated.
“This photograph was from the day when I won a marathon.
I looked so tired but Matteo just clicked my picture,” he muttered, the smile slowly faded from his lips.
Layla held his hand and rested her head on his shoulder.
She placed her hand on the chest and patted it.
“Find out who killed him, Lucius.
Take your revenge and give Matteo a tribute,” she stated.
“I will do my best, Layla.
I will surely catch the culprit,” Lucius said with a determined gaze.
