Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle - Chapter 175
Chapter 175: Free to leave me Chapter 175: Free to leave me “What game are you playing, Dad?
Who is Calvin Fanwick, and why is he suddenly bothering me?” Orabela demanded, her voice sharp as she held the phone to her ear.
Darius sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“I must have forgotten to mention him.
Come home tomorrow.
We’ll talk about it in person.” “I’m not coming home,” Orabela replied firmly.
“I’ve already been abandoned by the woman who raised me, and I refuse to face her again.” “Bella, don’t be like this,” Darius pleaded, his tone softening.
“Miriam’s harsh words stem from her pain, but she’s still struggling with everything.
Even Layla hasn’t fully forgiven us, and honestly, I don’t blame her.
We treated her terribly.
But you… I don’t want to make the same mistakes with you.” Orabela’s resolve didn’t waver.
“I’m not coming home.
If Dad wants to talk, I’ll meet you at your office tomorrow.” There was a pause before she added gently, “Good night, Dad.
Get some rest, and don’t worry about me.” Without waiting for a response, she ended the call and placed the phone on her bedside table.
Sitting on the edge of the mattress, Orabela stared at the floor.
“I shouldn’t face Mom,” she murmured.
“She despises me because I’m the illegitimate daughter.
Dad doesn’t get it, but I’ve seen it in her actions.” Bitterness laced her words as she clenched her fists.
In her heart, she had long rejected Seraphina as her mother-and she knew Miriam never would accept her as a daughter anymore.
With a sigh, Orabela rose and switched off the main lights, cloaking the room in a comforting darkness.
As she prepared to slide under the covers, her phone buzzed on the bedside table.
Picking it up, she saw a new message from Calvin.
“Let’s meet again tomorrow.” She stared at the screen in disbelief.
Without replying, she placed the phone back down.
“Why is he so persistent about dating me?” she wondered aloud, confusion clouding her mind.
Orabela slipped into bed with her tangled thoughts.
Despite the questions swirling in her head, she finally drifted off to sleep.
~~~~ “Grandma Alessia is such a lovely woman.
I really enjoyed this short trip!” Layla exclaimed as she sank into the soft embrace of her bed, back in the comfort of their home.
A contented sigh escaped her lips as she stretched out, her body still buzzing with the warmth of cherished moments.
Lucius shrugged off his overcoat, draping it casually over the chair before settling beside her.
His hand found its place on her thigh.
“Demitri really is a wonderful person,” Layla mused, her voice soft as she leaned back against the plush cushions.
“You should meet your old friend more often.
Come to think of it, I haven’t even texted her lately.
It’s been ages since I’ve caught up with Ruby, too.” She sat up, reaching into her pocket to retrieve her phone, her expression thoughtful.
“I hope she’s doing well.” Lucius intercepted her hand with a swift but gentle motion, taking the phone from her grasp.
His dark eyes held a glimmer of reassurance.
“I am sure Ruby’s fine,” he said with certainty.
“You worry too much.” His lips curved into a faint smile as he lightly flicked her nose with his finger, a playful gesture that broke the momentary seriousness.
“Right now, it’s you who needs to rest,” he added, his tone softening as he set the phone aside.
“Everything else can wait.” Lucius reached out, his fingers brushing against the fabric of her long coat.
With a gentle motion, he slid it off her shoulders, letting it fall in a soft heap behind her.
His gaze lingered on the pendant resting against her collarbone, its familiar gleam catching the light.
A faint smile tugged at his lips-it pleased him to know she always wore it.
“Invite Demitri over for dinner sometime,” Layla said, her voice a soothing murmur.
“I will,” Lucius replied without hesitation.
Layla pulled the duvet over herself, nestling into the pillow with a contented sigh.
“Lucius,” she began, her voice softer now, “live without constantly worrying about the future.
I believe in you.
You’ve transformed my life, and more than anything, I want you to find true happiness.” Her eyes remained closed as she spoke, her tone laced with trust and affection.
“I’ll do my best,” Lucius promised.
But as the silence stretched, he realized she had already drifted off to sleep.
Leaning closer, he pressed a tender kiss to the center of her forehead, his lips lingering for a moment.
His hand moved to gently stroke her hair, his expression soft as he watched her peaceful face.
After a while, he stood, carefully tucking the duvet around her before heading downstairs.
Roger and Aiden immediately rose from their seats as Lucius approached the couch.
“Why didn’t you tell me Fred is dead?” Lucius asked, his tone calm but laced with an undercurrent of tension.
Roger straightened up.
“I was going to inform you tomorrow, Boss.
You seemed to be enjoying your time with Madam, and I didn’t want to disturb you.” He lowered his head slightly in apologetic expression.
“Forgive me.” “Boss, you shouldn’t chase after Tsar,” Aiden said firmly, his brows furrowing in concern.
“Fred was fine all these years, and then suddenly he’s dead?
Something doesn’t add up.” Lucius folded his arms across his chest.
“If Tsar killed him, then bring me proof,” he said.
“Fred had more than his fair share of enemies.
Don’t let fear cloud your judgment or pin this solely on Tsar without evidence.” “But Boss, what if it is Tsar?” Aiden pressed.
“What will you do then?” Roger, who had been silently listening, suddenly snapped, his usual composure breaking.
“Are you really planning to go after Tsar?” he exclaimed, his tone almost frantic.
“This is the same man even Matteo couldn’t stand against.
Are you going to risk everything?” Lucius shot Roger a sharp glance, his calm exterior like ice.
“You think I’m unaware of Tsar’s reputation?” he asked, his voice dangerously low.
“I’m not walking into this blind.
But we don’t act on fear, Roger.
We act on facts.
I told you I would kill Tsar by my own hands.
So, get your mind straight and don’t let the fear cloud your judgment.
If you are scared, then you are free to leave me.
I won’t hold you back.”
