Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle - Chapter 184
Chapter 184: Didn’t make any effort Chapter 184: Didn’t make any effort Layla arrived in the restaurant, which her father had mentioned.
Her father had arrived at the same time and exited from the car parked ahead hers.
Her eyes landed on her mother, who also stepped out of the car, followed by Orabela.
She frowned to see her entire family and wondered what exactly was going on.
“Didn’t you mention your father wanted you to meet an important client?” Lucius asked as he stood by her side.
“Because that’s what Dad told me,” Layla whispered.
“Seems like your family is quite adamant of not improving at all,” Lucius murmured.
He sensed his wife was hurt because she gave them a chance to change.
And what bothered him seeing Orabela with Layla’s parents.
“Layla!
We are glad you came with Lucius here,” Miriam said as she approached them with a smile.
“What’s this?” Layla asked and looked at her father.
“Why don’t we go inside first?” Darius inquired.
“No, I don’t want to.
I thought it was a genuine meeting with an important client,” Layla stated, suddenly turning furious.
“Layla, it is an important person.
We are meeting the family of the guy where Orabela will get married.
I didn’t tell you everything on phone, thinking it would be better to meet here,” Darius said.
“The people are looking.
So, let’s go in,” he suggested.
“You never truly cared for my feelings.
Even now, you chose to lie to me.
And you,” Layla switched her gaze to her mother, “I thought you are sorry for everything that happened.
For my marriage, you weren’t a bit excited.
You just tossed me away.
I am done here.
Don’t ever contact me.” Layla turned on her heels and walked away.
She didn’t know why tears fell off her eyes.
Lucius clenched his fists hard.
“I’ll see you later,” he said and ran after Layla.

He caught her by grabbing her wrist.
Standing before her, he wiped the tears from her cheeks using his thumbs.
“Don’t leave like that.
I know you are hurt…
Badly hurt.
But don’t let it crumble you.
Use this opportunity to make your father declare you as the heiress soon.
He still hasn’t done that,” he reminded Layla.
“Lucius, why they never did such things for me?
Even after the truth came out, they actually didn’t make any effort to make me see they truly care for me now,” Layla asked though she knew he wasn’t the one who could answer that.
“I don’t know,” Lucius truthfully answered.
“If you want to leave, then we can.
You don’t have to feel low.” “I think I’ll attend this lunch.
You are right,” Layla agreed.
“I’m sorry for worrying you.” “Ah, don’t apologize,” he said before pressing a kiss on her lips, thus making her feel better.
~~~ “I thought Layla would be angry if I told her the truth and might refuse to attend this lunch,” Darius admitted to his wife, his tone laced with unease.
Miriam folded her arms, her gaze piercing.
“She has every right to be angry,” she replied sharply.
“For your mistress’s daughter, we are bending over backward, doing so much.
But for Layla?
We’ve done nothing,” she added, her voice tinged with both guilt and frustration.
She sighed deeply, the weight of her own words sinking in.
Though she knew hating Orabela completely was wrong-after all, the girl wasn’t responsible for her mother’s actions-Miriam couldn’t suppress the bitterness welling up inside her.
It wasn’t Orabela herself she despised, but the circumstances that had placed such a strain on their lives and made her feel like such a terrible person for harboring such resentment.
Orabela, who had been standing nearby, overheard the conversation.
Gathering her courage, she stepped forward.
“I won’t mind if you stop considering any proposals for me,” she said softly, her voice trembling slightly.
“I just want to be an obedient daughter who doesn’t wish for either of you to get hurt.” Darius glanced at Miriam, guilt flickering in his eyes.
“We should go inside,” he said quickly, eager to diffuse the tension.
Before they could move, Orabela looked toward the driveway and spoke again, her tone more subdued.
“Oh, Layla and Lucius are back,” she noted, her eyes briefly following them.
Inwardly, a pang of insecurity struck her.
‘She must have acted that way just to make me feel pathetic,’ Orabela thought bitterly.
Layla approached them with a composed expression.
“Layla, are you–” Miriam began, concern etched on her face, but Layla interrupted her before she could finish.
“I got a bit emotional earlier, and I’m sorry for that,” Layla said with a faint smile, her voice steady.
“We should go inside since it’s already late.” Darius exhaled in relief and offered a small smile.
“We’ll talk about everything later.
I’m just glad you’re back.” Without another word, he led the way inside, Miriam and Orabela following behind him.
Lucius, who had already handed the car keys to the chauffeur before falling into step with Layla.
Reaching the private lounge, they met the Fanwick family.
Lucius immediately recognized the man before him, a notorious player, who also had the habit of gambling.
While the two families exchange the greetings and introductions, Lucius wondered the motive behind this sudden marriage proposal.
“This is my son-in-law, Lucius De Salvo, the husband of my daughter, Layla,” Darius introduced him to the Fanwick family.
“I know Lucius De Salvo,” Canvin said, reaching his hand for a handshake.
Lucius shook his hand with Canvin and passed a smile to him.
“Am I that famous?” he muttered, pulling back his hand.
“Of course!
Everyone knows how the only son of the De Salvo family is into the mafia work,” Canvin said.
He read the room and immediately apologized, “I am sorry if I offended you.
But that’s what people know you for, Mr.
Lucius De Salvo.” “If I remember correctly, aren’t you the famous gambler in the top casino here?
I think my memory is getting poor because of work load,” Lucius taunted, giving an answer to Canvin in his own language.
