Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle - Chapter 188
Chapter 188: Doesn’t need his mother Chapter 188: Doesn’t need his mother The doors to the operating room swung open, and the doctors stepped out.
The senior doctor removed his mask, revealing a tired but relieved expression.
“Mr.
Lucius is out of danger,” he announced.
“The bleeding was difficult to control initially, but the procedure went smoothly in the end.
However, it will take some time for him to regain consciousness.” A collective sigh of relief swept through the group.
Alekis turned to the doctor with a grateful tone.
“Thank you for saving him.” The doctors nodded briefly before excusing themselves.
A nurse approached them, clipboard in hand.
“Mr.
Lucius will be transferred to a private room shortly,” she informed them.
“But only one person can visit him at a time.” “You should go, Layla,” Alekis said, resting a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
“He needs you the most right now.” Layla nodded, quickly wiping the tears from her eyes.
“Thank you,” she murmured, silently thanking God for sparing Lucius’s life.
Once Lucius was moved to the VIP ward, Layla stepped inside to see him.
A nurse was meticulously checking his vitals, adjusting the glucose level on the IV drip.
Layla approached hesitantly.
“Is everything okay?
There’s no complications, right?” she asked, her voice trembling with concern.
The nurse offered a calm smile.
“Yes, as per the doctor, there are no complications.
He just needs rest to recover.” “You’ll have ten minutes to visit,” the nurse added kindly before leaving the room.
Layla turned her attention to Lucius.
His face looked pale and his breathing was slow.
An oxygen mask was put on his nose.
Gently, she reached out and touched his forehead.
She moved her hand slowly to his and held it gently.
“Just wake up soon.
I am dying to hear your voice,” she murmured and sniffled, not letting the tears fall from her eyes.
Her heart was clenching tight with an unknown fear.

Sitting by Lucius’s side on the chair, she just stared at his face, her mind had a lot of questions circulating inside.
Layla got out of her thoughts when a nurse interrupted her, telling her that visitation time was over.
“Can’t I just stay here for a little longer?
I won’t do anything,” she requested.
“I’m sorry, Mrs.
De Salvo.
But since your husband just came from the operating room, it’s not advisable to stay around him to prevent any kind of infection to him.
I hope you understand,” the nurse explained her politely.
Layla nodded her head.
“I understand.” She cast a last glance at Lucius and walked out of the room.
“I asked Grandpa to leave with Mom since he was not feeling good.
He is old, so…” Roderick explained as he paused after a moment.
“How’s Uncle?
Sorry, for not coming earlier,” he said, looking at the distressed face of Layla.
“Lucius is out of danger.
However, he’s sleeping at the moment.
I don’t know when he will wake up,” Layla said.
On their own, a few tears rolled down her cheeks, damping her eyes.
Roderick couldn’t stop himself, but pull her into a hug.
Just then, someone clicked their pictures.
“Uncle will wake up soon,” he said, his hand resting on the back of her head.
However, Layla didn’t take time to push him away gently.
“Hmm.
I know.
You can’t hug me like that,” she reminded him, showing her discomfort.
“I am worried for you.
I heard that the bullet was directed at you.
What if something would have happened to you?” Roderick asked, his hands holding her arms this time.
“Rick, please,” Layla urged him to let her go.
She was already tensed and all his words were making her only furious.
“Reconsider your decision of staying by my uncle’s side.
Now, I am thinking to snatch you back from my uncle.
You aren’t supposed to ruin your life because of him,” Roderick said.
Layla clenched her fists.
“Stop it.
Okay?” She walked past him when Roderick grabbed her arm.
She raised her arm, ready to slap him, but stopped herself.
“Stay out of my life.
I don’t care if I die staying by Lucius’s side.
But I am not leaving him.
I love him and I have vowed myself to stay by his wife until my least breath.
So, stop it.
You don’t own me,” Layla said.
Roger held Roderick’s hand and yank it away.
“Don’t trouble Madam.
I won’t hesitate to throw you out of the hospital if you don’t behave,” he said, glaring at him.
Roderick sighed and let out a wry laugh before walking away.
“Thanks, Roger,” Layla said.
“Lucius is resting.
I hope he wakes up soon,” she added.
“He will,” Roger said and asked her to sit in the private lounge which was adjacent to the room.
Once Layla went inside, he also followed her in.
“Did the police catch the shooter?” Lalya asked.
“Not yet,” Roger said and he sat across from Layla.
“I myself checked the area.
It was a trained sniper.
His face was not clear in any of the CCTVs.
I won’t deny but in the past we did have many enemies.
Maybe it’s someone from those gangs, which we made sure to wipe out,” Roger explained to her, not hiding the details with her.
“Hmm.” Layla didn’t say anything further, making Roger wonder what she had in her mind.
“Madam, it’s our fault not to stay on alert,” Roger said.
“Such attacks can happen in the future too.
This is the first time Lucius got hit by a bullet,” Layla remarked as she knitted her brows together.
“That’s true,” Roger agreed with her.
Layla took out her phone and looked at a number in her contact list.
It was of Lucius’s mother.
She dialed Evelina’s number and waited for her to answer the call.
Though she had the least expectation, Evelina answered her call.
“Yes, Layla?
You called me after such a long time,” Evelina said from the other side.
“Lucius is injured.
Could you please come here to see him?” Layla asked.
Evelina turned quiet for a moment.
“I am sorry, Layla.
It’s not possible for me to leave my son’s wedding here.
I’m sure it’s not a bad injury.
And you can take a good care of him.
He doesn’t need his mother for such matters,” she asserted and hung up the call.
